Whenever i make applesauce or fruit purees for my LO I peel and core the fruit by hand with a regular knife but it takes forever. Do you core with a knife or do you use a corer and can you recommend a good one?

I use an apple slicer...it was really cheap at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I always just peel by hand with a knife. I often try to peel an apple all in 1 long slice! Minor things like that keep me entertained

I haven't made applesauce or anything, but I use one of these when I make apple pie. It is SO handy! We were in vacation recently and I had to use a knife and peeler which took me forever.

When I cut an apple into slices, I use the William Sonoma apple corer. Then, I'll peel the skin with a knife.

My family makes a lot of applesauce and we use a food mill. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B000I0MGKE/ref=aw_d_detail?pd=1 You don't have to peel or core the apple. Just chop into quarters and cook the way you normally do, then run it through the food mill and the seeds and such are left behind.

I have the super-awesome apple peeler that Stephen Fry references in "100 Greatest Gadgets." You stick an apple on this terrifying pointy thing that looks like a medieval torture device, and it will not only peel and core the apple for you, but it slices it into little rings at the same time. One of my aunts gave it to us as a wedding gift because it's common knowledge that I am a bit domestically challenged (read: I can't peel an apple for shit), and I love it.
Also, I guess it would make a useful weapon if we were being burgled...it's pretty heavy. If you're lazy and/or like neat kitchen toys, it's a pretty useful thing to have!
