I wasn't that nervous about giving birth to DS from a naive standpoint (I thought the epidural would cancel out all the pain, haha.)
I think I am going to be more nervous about having #2 whenever that happens because I know how much childbirth can suuuuuuck.

I was also naive about birth #1. I figured I was healthy, the pregnancy had been easy, and I have a high pain-threshold. But labor took forever, including three hours of pushing; and the baby stopped breathing shortly after birth, possibly because I was holding him without a good airway and was too exhausted to notice. It was scary!
So for LO2, I was nervous for how labor would go and for keeping the baby safe. But her birth was quick and (relatively) easy.

I would say first, because I had no idea what to expect, and that made me nervous. Although now that I think about it, I was nervous about my second, because he was a VBAC, and I wasn't sure if I would be successful or not.

My second, because it was a planned c-section. I wasn't nervous at all about my second labor until I found out I was going to end up with a c-section. I was super nervous about the surgery...I cried when they were prepping me in the OR.

I was more nervous with #1 because I didn't know what to expect or how it might all happen. I was pretty nervous about giving birth to #2 in the car en route to the hospital!

I wasn't really nervous about either- I kind of figured it would be hard but should go well and there were plenty of professionals to make sure we had a good end result (or naive, whatever
)I was right, no major complications either token with my second I was just nervous I wouldn't know when to go in and get child care for my older one in time and that labor would go super fast. I was right to be nervous on that one- had the baby 45 minutes after walking into the hospital!

First because I had no real concept of what it would be like! This time I feel like I know what to expect, and I also know more about how I will handle the pain, including what techniques work for me.

I was very calm re: my first delivery. I had a rather short labor and great vaginal delivery.
This time around I'm very nervous, but it's due to the fact that I have a complete placenta previa, could bleed again at any moment, am considered high risk for pre-term labor, and will have a scheduled c-section no later than 37 weeks. Did I mention that it is dangerous for me to go into labor naturally? I'm learning to accept it and go with it, but I have to admit that I'm nervous about having surgery.

First. I was terrified. So scared I would tear bad and bleed a lot. Both happened! C section likely this time and I'm more at ease with it.

The second, because I was induced for IUGR and was just plain worried.

@simplyfelicity: well dd1 was 11 hours from first contraction to holding her. So I was afraid #2 was going to be hella fast. But she was about the same.

The actual act of giving birth - definitely my first because I had no idea what to expect and they kept telling me that he might not tolerate labor, etc.
For the logistics of giving birth I might be most nervous for #3 because with my second I was deemed early labor and then just barely made it to a hospital in time just 2 hours later. Pretty nervous about what happens if I go into labor while home alone with my 2 lo's. -
I really wasn't nervous at all for my first delivery and the experience was totally fine other than it ending in a (necessary) c-section.
I think I will be more nervous for #2 because I really want to try for a VBAC so I'll be nervous that something will prevent me from succeeding.

Definitely the second, I was convinced I was going to die during delivery for some reason.

The fourth. It was my fourth csection, and I was so nervous about the surgery. Built it up in my head, though it was as bad as I thought it would be.

@clover: I was convinced I was going to die too! I was so worried that DD1 wouldn't grow up with her mommy because I wanted a second LO.

My third. It was a risky pregnancy because I got pregnant three months after having my second via c-section.
Add into it a very very large baby and I was terrified that one or both of us wouldn't make it through the surgery. The week leading up to my surgery I did kick counts constantly. I was really worried about still birth this time.

@Finfan: That was my exact fear! Those pregnancy hormones really mess with you.

I think I was more nervous with #1 because I was induced. I wasn't induced with #2 and I trusted my body a lot more (and had a much better L&D).

First. I had a good uncomplicated first delivery so I wasn't scared the second time. Although I was a bit nervous about being induced.

My first birth wasn't even very bad but my second was really healing for me. Even when I think about it now I'm SO proud of myself. I felt like I managed my labour really well. I didn't prepare in any way and didn't have any expectations but overall it was SO amazing!

My third. I had a complete placenta previa with 2 bleeding episodes before my earlyish delivery.

Definitely my first as far as nerves about not knowing what to expect and the pain. Now that I've done it once I'm much less nervous for this second one, BUT I'm terrified of having a quick birth and driving the hour to the hospital. I'm worried I won't get there soon enough.

First as far as pain (eta and I had a really long labor the first time too) but I was really anxious about how dd would handle everything so in some ways the second.

Mainly just not knowing when my second world arrive, I was so worried about having someone familiar with my oldest when labor happened. Everything turned out fine and labor was a breeze compared to my first. I had no expectations with my first and everything went so fast I don't remember much.

First, no doubt! Everyone told me how I would be in unbelievable pain and I was prepared for the worst. I gladly took that epidural. And it was great.

Technically third, but first was such abnormal circumstances I don't count it. I thought the second would be so much better, and in a lot of ways (live baby in particular!) it was. But it still was really shitty, so now I'm terrified of another birth. To the point I'd consider a scheduled c-section, and I was 100% med-free before. I have a feeling I'll need some counseling if we decide to have another.

My second. He was a big boy and we didn't do the c-section until ten days after his due date. I was very worried that something would go wrong in the last few days. DH was worried too, which made me worried I wasn't just being paranoid.

With my second I knew what to expect. With my first I was terrified.

I'm more nervous about #2, because of child care for my DD. We have a plan for her care in place, but there is no way to predict when my labor will start and how fast it will go, so I'm just nervous it'll go super fast at like 2 am and our care person won't make it in time!

First because I just didn't know what to expect. With #2, I went in not the slightest bit nervous as everything had been easy peasy with DD1 - perfect epidural, great progression, an hour of pushing, DD born easily etc. So I just assumed it would all be the same again the second time.....not so much. It was a real fight to get the epi and it didn't work as well as the first time. I remember being so over it all, even though it was a much shorter labour, as the pain never went away entirely and I was just done.
Come to think of it, I should have voted I'm most nervous for baby #3 as I now know not everything always goes as brilliantly as it did with #1!

It was about the same for me. The first time I didn't know what to expect and was nervous because of it. The second time I knew what to expect but other factors like a fast first labor and childcare for LO1 played into it. With a potential third I'd be scared of a combination of events happening with LO1 + LO2. If it all goes as fast as it did with LO1 and then transition being only 10 Minutes with LO2 (I was a 4 30 Minutes before baby was born and it didn't get painful for another 10 minutes or so...) am really worried of whether we'd be able to make it to the hospital in time.
