I think the styles you picked out are very pretty, but I went with d. I like the simplicity of it. Sorry I'm not much help haha

A window guy once mentioned that with more molding, you get less view/sun. It isn't a huge difference, obviously, but since we have been decorating the new nursery, which has a big window with criss cross molding, and I have tried taking pictures of the room, I've noticed how the molding creates way more shadows than other windows. I picked D.

@SugarplumsMom: Yup! Part of the peril of being married to an architect. Now I notice proportional things I never would have seen before. Like houses with glued on "shutters" that make no sense because they are almost always too narrow for the windows.

I would lean toward the fewest bars you can get, with the ideal being totally empty. IMO windows are at their best when you can maximize unobstructed light and views.

@Espion: Ha, this is one of my pet peeves. We are in the process of making "real" shutters for our house. They will stay permanently open, but we are using real shutter hardware and correct dimensions!

@SugarplumsMom: storm windows often save enough energy to make it better financially to keep the original windows. When I've done historical projects the original windows often just get rebuilt. I go back and forth on windows.
That said we're replacing our windows this spring. Someone replaced the originals with 1970s aluminum frames so anything I pick is an improvement.

@SugarplumsMom: I'm inclined to stick with your original lite pattern.
Would your husband by open to white on the inside and a darker color on the exterior? The dark brown is charming.

@SugarplumsMom: I know DH would definitely opt save the older windows! Often the panes of glass can be removed and recaulked. (We had to do that when our dog put his nose through one trying to get the mailman. Dog was okay, window was not!)

As an aside: the sunrise/sunset make me wonder what your latitude is!
