I read a post the other day where a lot of moms said they used a white noise machine to help LO sleep. Our Dr. has recommended that we try one as well since LO has been colicky. So what one do you have? Are some better than others?

I couldnt decide on which one to get, so I just downloaded some rainfall sounds white noise tracks and looped them on a cd which we play on repeat all night. You can also tune the radio to just static and play that

Ours was $10 at target, and we love it. It's small enough that we put it in the rock'n'play with LO and can take it with us if needed. It's very similar to this one.http://www.target.com/p/homedics-sound-spa-blue/-/A-13804534#?lnk=sc_qi_reviews&selectedTab=item-guestreviews-link

We just downloaded a free app on our phones. We found the rainstorm noise worked the best.

I have a hard time sleeping with white noise, so we had to get one that I could live with too. We settled on the :

We have thr sleep.sheep which is great for travel and naps...used the ipad app until we got the marpac today! First Night using it

LO never needed it by my friends swear by the Sleep Sheep and Giraffe!
honeydew / 7917 posts
We have used the sleep sheep since my LO came home from the hospital. It only stays on for 45 minutes but it's enough time for the white noise to calm him down and help him fall asleep. I think he is used to normal house noises when he is sleeping.

We have a small speaker dock plus a spare iPod. I put a white-noise track on repeat. Works great.

We use a fan. We've had it since LO was a newborn because we read that circulating air decreases the risk of SIDS.

We bought a white noise CD, and I have an old CD player that we can put on repeat.

I have the Cloud B Sleep Sheep and Sleep Giraffe. I love them both!

We have 3 of these. One in his room, one in our travel bag, and another one. We use the projector as the night light too. I got it at Target for $20.

We use the white noise app on an old iPhone. We used to use our Gentle Giraffe but got tired of turning it back on after 45 minutes!
We also use a fan in our own room.

@Sweet T : Agreed! We have the same one (got it from Buybuy baby), we use it everynight in LO's room. Love that it plugs in and doesn't have a timer.
When we are out and about and he starts to get fussy, we use the free app, Relax M (he likes the vaccum noise).

Another Sleep Sheep user here! Love that thing. Unlike some, I love it's timer. We don't really need it on all night.

@Sammyfab: i hated waiting for the 45 minuted to be up too! I would wait by the doorway, and as soon as it got near 45 minutes, i would hover over the sleep sheep so i could turn it on again.
I use a rainfall track and play it on loop.

@SweetT: I have the same one!
We tried using the sleep sheep and the white noise apps on our iPad. The sleep sheep didn't work b/c it turned off after 45 mins and he would wake up. The iPad white noise sound was so annoying, we had a hard time sleeping with it when he was sleeping in the same room as us. The Marpac is significantly less annoying.

@Zippylef: I don't feel like we need it all night either . . . just long enough to help LO get into a deep phase of sleep, if she ever will!

I have an awesome white noise app on my iphone and ipad and plan to just use that when baby arrives. Glad to hear that has worked for others!

@sooz: we actually use brown noise in lo's room because DH finds white noise to be too harsh! On the app we have there's also pink and purple :).

D doesn't like the sleep sheep - he wakes up when it turns off. I just bought the Graco Sweet Slumber machine. It has white noise, music, and you can plug an iPod in. It has a 60-minute timer, but also goes all night. We use the white noise at night, and then D and I have a dance party in the morning with the iPod! It's pretty small, too, and runs on batteries or plugged in, so it will travel well.

We have the munchkin white noise machine. It has a night light and projector function, plus 3 kinds of music and 3 kinds of white noise.

Thanks ladies! We have the sleep sheep but I want something that goes all night and has the actual white noise to try out.
apricot / 307 posts
@sammyfab: Thanks! We'll have to look into brown, pink and purple noise since we use the iPad for when we travel. I didn't know noise came in so many colors.

I think I might have went for overkill on the white noise machines in our registry, but we got every single one plus some duplicates - all from other parents so I take them to be very helpful! We got the Graco, Sleep Sheep, and a Sleep Sheep On The Go!

We have a $20 one from target which works great. We also got the sleep sheep but haven't figured out how to keep it running through the night so we use it for travel naps.

I have the Aden & Ansi serenity star. Kind of pricey, like $50, but it's a clock, sound machine, thermometer, feeding tracker, and we live it!
I also have graco- not loud enough and annoying blue lights - and sleep sheep (ok on the rain setting but nothing continuous through the night & my LO wakes up when it automatically goes off!)
