We used to be able to pick the costumes, but now it's a joint decision: we throw out some ideas, and the kids get excited about one and we go with it! Our kids are 5 and (almost) 7.
Who is picking your LO's Halloween costume this year?

They both picked theirs already. Gekko from PJ Masks for LO1 and Anna from Frozen for LO2. I picked the first two years of both of their lives.

D (3) picked his own. Well, kind of...with some gentle guidance, hee hee. He wanted to be a stormtrooper, but I was having a hard time finding a decent costume in his size. I found a Chase (Paw Patrol) one and showed him that. He changed his mind instantly. He's SO excited now to be Chase! And A (7m) is going to be Skye - I just got her a hat from Etsy that looks like Skye's pilot hat, and then she'll wear a pink shirt and pants (which she already has). She can then just use the Skye hat as her winter hat.

LO1 picked hers (a witch) and LO2 is going as a ladybug as my mom found a used costume.

LO is picking her own (she's 4) - she also picked her costume last year. We haven't made the final decision yet, but LO is leaning towards either a Greek goddess or Super Girl.

LO picked every year since she was 2.5. One year didn't make sense (all the princesses rolled into one) but I just went with it and let her do her thing.

they picked
I asked DS for the 1st time at age 4 - he requested a stop sign

DD1((3.8yrs) has picked since she was almost two. DD2 (21 months) will have a pick of three costumes that we already own. I'll pick for DD3 (8 months).

we picked x-men as a family and then each kid decided which character they wanted to be.

DH really wanted us all to be characters from Stranger Things, so he chose this year. Our kids are 2.5 so I think this will be the last time we get to choose for them!

DS1 said he wanted to rewear his costume from last year....which is fine by me, since I made it and don't have time to make another one this year.
DS2's costume I picked, to go with DS1's costume.

@ValentineMommy: DD1 has been a witch for three years. If you ask her she says "a witch again!"
@Mrs. Train: your family costumes are always so amazing!

H picked hers (Skye from Paw Patrol). I am almost done with her costume. A will be an owl
Because she will be a newborn and can't choose.

I really only got to pick for M on her 1st Halloween. This year she wants to be Elsa on her coronation - which they actually have a costume for! H will be a dinosaur.

My 3 year old chose for both her and the baby. She wanted to be a kitty cat so I bought some dollar bin ears for her and me, black top and leggings, and she will rewear her tutu from last year. She has said since I was pregnant that the baby will be a pumpkin baby, which works well since we have a hand me down pumpkin costume that my nephew also wore.
So this year my total cost for costumes for them both and me is $15. (I will wear the ears and a black shirt).

sort of a combination--I showed her an online page of costumes and she chose, but I kind of steered her towards one I liked

DD1 (3.5) picked: she's gonna be a chicken, DD2 an egg, I'm a farmer and DH is a tractor. Still need to flesh out those details!

This is the first year she picked (she just turned 3). She's going to be a bee. I think she got the idea from the Llama Llama halloween book.

LO (2) keeps asking to be a pirate, so a pirate it is! Now I just need to buy/make something for him!

Older LO wants to be a mermaid and keeps saying she wants little sister to be a shark. But little sister was a baby last year and got the shaft then, too (LO1 was Frida Kahlo and LO2 was Diego Rivera) so I'm not sure.
Maybe I'll let both kids be mermaids and make DH wear a Shark hoodie. And then I could be a diver? Still in the planning stages over here.

@fancyfunction: If your LO has hair that's long enough, there are some good "coronation day hair" tutorials on YouTube! My LO went through a coronation day obsessed phase and I was able to do her hair like Elsa's - and if I can do it, anyone can!

For my 4 year old, she chose. She's going to be Owlette. I gave her a few ideas, though
My youngest ..I bought her a costume from Carter's but it's a bit too small I think. So I have a crocheted Boo hat, and I think she'll be Boo from Monster's Inc. I have a Minnie costume that'll fit her, too, so she can always be that if she wants.

@yoursilverlining: Oh nice - thx for the tip! I've been thinking of how to do her hair and its def long enough!

DD, 2.5 picked Minnie Mouse. I picked for her the first two years, this is the first year she picked.

DD is going to be a ladybug. DS hasn't decided yet. I'd love them to coordinate, but won't push it.
