I have been pleasantly surprised to see so many couples where the mom is the breadwinner! Feels like progress for society, in some ways.
Who makes more in your relationship: you or your hubby/SO?

I have been the breadwinner since my husband lost his job a year and a half ago...but, he started work again today (thank god) and is now going to be making more than me.
It will be nice to have this change and be able to get pampered a bit before baby comes.

My husband since I work part-time as a PR consultant. But, if I worked full time, I would make more (potentially, a lot more).

We made exactly the same amount of money for a long time, before we got pregnant. Then after I got laid off, Rob Sr. was the breadwinner for a long time until just recently. Now I work part time but he still makes significantly more.

My husband, which works well for me since I really want to be a stay at home mom when my kids are young.

I make more than my husband by just a little. However, in about 5 years (if we're still at our same jobs/companies), he will make more than me (my job has a salary cap after 10 years...I've already been working for 5).

I make more than my husband (I have my Master's, so I think that's why), but I'll probably be going to part-time once we have children, so he'll be the breadwinner for a while.

This is a hard one to answer. Hubs makes less than me but works more. I make more than him, but don't work as often. I guess he brings home more money.

my husband, hands down. i'm part-time now and a few nights of call and he can make my salary. =T he thinks i might as well just quit. i will, by the time the twins come!

We make about the same. For the first 3 years of our relationship he did, for the next 3 years I did, now it is even with him in a little more but he also works more than me so it is deserved.

Me, for now. He's been in school and residency since we started dating. I'm looking forward to next year when he'll have a "real" job and hopefully be making more than me.

This is sort of embarrassing to admit, but my husband makes about 2.5x what I do. I finally realize why my parents were so disappointed when I changed my major from pre-dentistry to English!

@Two Dog - Yup, I've my BA in English/Social Science and my MA in English Lit, and I make peanuts. lol.

I make more than my husband. My starting salary was higher than his even though he was already working for five years. ><

I make about 2x my husbands salary. But, he is a lowly surgery resident and in another few years his salary will go up substantially and he will make much more than me.
cherry / 181 posts
We are evenly matched. He makes $1 more a week than I do. However I am sure this will change with time. I am in a non technical field at a higher position level but he is an engineer, eventually he will make much more than me.
clementine / 861 posts
We have the same undergrad & masters degrees but he has a few years more experience, so hubs makes more than me.

When I first started working I made more than DH. Now he is making much more than me which works for me because I hope to be able to be a SAHM someday.

Well, I chose to be a teacher, so definitely him. Until I sell my million-dollar novel...(no, I've never actually written anything).

My husband makes substantially more than I do. Sad for me, because I went to school for a lonnng time. I will say, I just really enjoy where I work... even though it doesn't pay a lot.
pear / 1664 posts
We make almost the same amount. Our salaries are literally within a few hundred bucks of eachother, and I can't remember who makes more without looking at our checks!

The hubs makes more money than I do. When I was still working an hourly job at Disney, he paid as much in taxes as my annual salary! That was really depressing. Now we're a bit closer (60/40, maybe?).

When I was working, I made more, because I am older and had a few more years of experience. FWIW, we worked in the same industry, same company, same jobs, but different divisions.

My husband makes 2x what I make. We both have good jobs, but he is in a professional career that typically comes with higher pay. The tradeoff is that he works long hours and usually goes in on Sundays for half a day, whereas I work 8:30 to 4:00 strictly Monday to Friday, which means that I am able to contribute more around the house. I actually kind of love our situation because it allows us to both contribute in our own ways - it helps that I truly love my job.

I've been making more than the hubby for years now. Not sure if it'll change after the baby comes, but it's certaintly making me worry over it!

My husband makes about 30% more than I do, we both have the same degree (accounting), but he works in public accounting and I work in the private sector. He's also a few years older than me, so he has more experience and is a bit higher on the totem pole.

Yeah...uh...I was a music major and worked at Disney in entertainment after college. Husband was an accounting major and has been with the same big-four accounting firm for 15 years...he's most definitely the breadwinner. Even when we WERE both working, he made 3x as much as I did.
But I make a mean dinner and I run this household like nobody's business!! Ok...that's not true. Hubs does the laundry and we have a cleaning service twice a week...but I DO make a mean dinner

my husband! i worked for 5 years in investment banking while my husband finished up undergrad and then went to grad school for 4 years (he's one year younger than me). Once he started working and we got married, I was able to quit my job and move in with him. It worked out since he makes 4x what I used to make. I am now "retired" and am working on creating a family

my husband is a student with no income - so for now, me. Although when he's finished he'll be a pastor, so I'll probably still be making more, as long as I'm working.

My hubby makes more than me. I was close to catching him and then he got a raise.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
Proud to say my husband does! I've always wanted to be a SAHM once I had kids, so it works well for us.
GOLD / pomelo / 5167 posts
Me. Though my husband would love for it to be him. (ego, i guess)
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
I do. My husband is going back to school for web design so maybe he will make more eventually.
kiwi / 678 posts
I make about twice what he makes now, but he starts a new job on Monday and should be making about 75% of what I make at the new job. So, I'm still big money, but not as dramatically.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Husband always has made more money than me. Then I got a promotion last week. So now my base is a little bit more than his, but his bonus is greater than mine. I think we'll be about equal for this tax year.
cherry / 168 posts
My husband's salary is more than double mine. If his raise comes through, it will officially be 3x.
(Don't get excited though, I make NOTHING.)
clementine / 994 posts
Hubby makes more, but not by a huge amount. In a few years the difference will probably be greater since his field has a higher salary potential.
