We will soon be installing LO 2's car seat in prep for her arrival IN April. This means that DD will no longer be in the middle and because of space we will probably also be forward facing her (she's almost 18 months). My question here is which kid should sit on the passenger side to be more "reachable"? Would you make your toddler easier to reach or your newborn?

I think the "best/safest" way to do it is to leave your FF toddler in the middle and put the baby on the outside. A convertible seat is less protected than an infant bucket.
Personally, Id throw the toddler on the passenger if you dont want to/cant leave one middle. They're more likely to get into trouble. lol

I had my toddler on the back passenger FF and infant behind me RF. It was easier for me to reach my toddler if he was on passenger.

My toddler is ff on the driver's side and baby bucket rf on the passenger side. My husband needed to scoot too far back to for the rf bucket seat. It's nice if the baby cries I can reach back to pat him from from the passenger side. If I'm driving alone he's SOL though.
Our local firestation has car seat installation hours and figures out the best configuration for our car and installs them properly.

We had our toddler on the driver side (remaining rear facing. We didn't turn her until she was older than 2 because she's so tiny). We wanted to be able to put the baby in curb side, not traffic side. Also, it was better that the baby was more accessible in case she needed to be fed.
Now in the minivan we have the infant just behind the passenger and the girls in the way back. So roomy!

i find being on the passenger is more reachable to pass food, toys etc as needed to my toddler.

We have street parking so toddler goes on passenger side so I don't worry about her walking out in the road to get to her side.

I like having my toddler on the passenger side. She hops in and out of the car on her own (I obviously buckle/unbuckle her) but as I'm carrying our baby and other stuff, I generally can't carry her at the same time. I'd much rather have her getting in on the passenger side than the road side. Also, she is the one who tends to need more stuff than my younger one (ie snacks, water, toys etc), and it's easier to reach her on that side.

I wanted my toddler to be curb side and the baby to be street side since my toddler actually comes out of her seat and I almost always bring the whole bucket, which gets us off the street faster. Toddler is still rear facing so with her convertible I can't reach either of them at all.

I put my toddler on passenger side and the baby on my side.

We kept the older child FF in the middle. It also helps I can hand her things and she can hand to the RF baby.

My son is currently FF in the middle and I intend to leave him there, I can spin and unbuckle him from the drivers seat and he climbs down so I figure this will be the easiest! Once lo2 is here she'll be in a bucket for awhile

I have my toddler behind the passenger's seat since we often park on the curb and that way he doesn't have to walk onto the street. Since both are RF I cannot reach either.

Right now ds1 is RF behind the passenger seat and the twins will occupy the middle and driver's side. Not sure how it's all going to work or if we'll need to shift babes around.

We have our toddler RF in the passenger seat (2.5 yo-no problems with it) and our baby girl is behind the driver. You are certainly more likely to need to reach your toddler. I'd try to keep your older RF if possible
ETA: I agree with above posters. Having toddler on passenger side is good for loading/unloading as well. They get more headstrong with age and good to have them on the curbside.
