I would like to have my mom and DH be in the room during L&D. I was originally going to ask MIL too (because she's a nurse and I also didn't want her to feel left out!)
But I recently found out that I can only have two people in the room. So I automatically told DH that we couldn't have his mom in there with us.
Who was in the room with you?

Just dh. I would have found anyone else intrusive. We also did not have people in the waiting room.

I had my husband and my stepmom, who is a nurse, in the room with me during labor and delivery. DH held my hand and my stepmom held a leg!
I had a scheduled induction a week and a half past my due date, so everyone knew when I was going in. My FIL and MIL showed up (uninvited) at noon and stayed until I delivered at 6am the following morning. My SIL and BIL visited briefly while I was in labor, but went home.
MIL was miffed that she wasn't invited into the room, but we aren't close enough for me to want her in there, plus she is high strung and overbearing and I wanted calm.

So I really want my mom in the L&D room with me... but how do I go about anyone else waiting?... I sort of don't want anyone else there until after birth!!

It will just be DH in the room, which I know will create drama with his side. His whole family took turns in the L&D room and camped out in the waiting room for 2 days when his sister had her baby. We agreed that DH would call them with updates however we wanted some family time before anyone came to visit.

Just my husband. I had him tell the rest of the family to come the next day. I had left the option open, but in the end did not want anyone else there when labor actually hit.

@mrsjyw: If you want your mom and no one else, just tell the nurses. It's best to be honest with people before hand about when you would like visitors, but the nurses are usually great about keeping out guests who are early or uninvited.

My mom and DH were there.
I didn't want anyone else there and no one to come back until I was moved to recovery. They even asked us when we checked in if anyone else would be coming after the birth or switching out with my mom or DH because they needed to be on "the list". Well somehow my BIL got in RIGHT after I gave birth. I wasn't cleaned up yet and I hadn't fed DS. I was like ummm are you leaving so I can get naked to feed my son (BIL didn't even aknowledge me or DS he was all looking at his phone and talking to DH about his day. So annoying lol).

Only my husband. And I wouldn't change a thing. Also, I did skin on skin after she was born for an hour. This way I didn't about having anyone else trying to scoop lo up, and we got to be a little family before all the chaos.

Before I delivered I talked to my good friend about being in there and she was all for it, but the closer we got to EDD the more weird it felt. I only wanted DH in there but didn't know how to tell BFF.
Well, DD came at 2:44am so it didn't matter as much, BFF was at home asleep!

@artbee: both DH and I did a lot of skin to skin the first week as well, I actually think that's partly why he is soo good with DH.
I had my DH and mom. I couldn't have done it without either of them. I needed a hand to squeeze through every contraction, so my DH couldn't leave my side or else I freaked. My mom got me water, took pictures, talked to me, made sure they followed ny birth plan- she was kinda like my doula 
my mom and I are very close so it meant a lot that she was there. And I was actually there when she gave birth to my sister 
I was going to have my older sister with me too (I was at her birth), but she didn't make it to the hospital in time, so she got there about half hour after I delivered.

I was kind of ticked that my dad and in laws were let in right away too. My MIL swooped in and picked DS up before I was comfortable with it. I wish we had and extra hour or so. We would have if they hadn't camped out overnight.
My stepmom was like my doula too. She was the perfect compliment to DH and could get me to eat, drink, move around,.etc... without me feeling like she was nagging. It let DH be more quiet.support, which was good because he is terrified of hospitals.

When I get pregnant and am at that point I really want my husband, mom, and mil in the room. I don't think there will be people in the waiting room because we only have an aunt and uncle that live in the same state.

Just my husband. I love my mom and MIL dearly, but no. Having them there fussing over me would only stress me out.

I ONLY want my husband.
If it was a long labor to relieve my husband before transition I would choose my good friend. Because I think she will be the best support person for ME.
I don't know what I will do if my mom is here already when I'm in labor. She doesn't speak English so I think it will be more stressful for me trying to explain to her what's going on.

That's what I Love about the hospital we will be delivering at. The first hour they call the Golden Hour where it's just mom, dad and baby. They encourage skin on skin contact along with breastfeeding then to create that bond. They allow no one else in. Everyone else can wait till we get to the mother baby unit.

It was just DH, our hospital was all about skin to skin. And it was great. It was just two hours of the three of us in the L&D room before I got transferred to my recovery room.

Wow things are totally different here. Here it's just you and your DH/birth partner and medical personnel- about 9 or so - and that's it. Full stop. Nobody else in the recovery room, and certainly nobody else in the labour room. Everyone else has to wait for visiting hours like any other visit to a hospital.
Consequently we just don't have that culture of people turning up while you're giving birth, or directly after.
According to the midwife, the average list here for bodies present during labour includes midwife, obstetrician, 2 nurses, runner, paediatrician (2 of those for multiple births) anaesthetist if necessary, student midwife.

Just my DH. I also need an hour with just DH and my baby post delivery because I think it's important we have that time with her before everyone else shows up. We only plan to tell a selected few when I am in labor, so DH will tell everyone after she arrives, which will logistically give us that hour to be with her anyway. It'll also depend on what time she's born and when visiting hours are allowed.
