I posted a poll about this a few months ago (so people could answer anonymously without being flamed). C is only 14 months and petite so def still rf.

We turned at 2 due to pressure from DH and my mom. I got sick of listening to them bitch at me about it. She was very tall for her age and I dug in my heels until she turned 2, but C and I would have both been happy to leave her RF.

She was throwing epic tantrums that were distracting us while driving.

I am strongly considering doing it soon (at 21 months) although ideally I would wait until after 24 months. The only reason I am considering it is because every.single. morning. I somehow bang his head on the car door. I guess it's the dimensions of my car door and the size of the seat or something, but it is impossible to get him in without throwing him in head first and then straightening him up. It's bbecoming an enormous pain - but I know I 'should' wait.

21 months and I am absolving myself of any guilt about it right now!

ETA: Oops, read the OP as "when" not "why". We turned DS around because my mom watches him every day and decided to flip him, so she kind of forced our hand. He didn't take well to FF with Grammas and RF with mom & dad!

We're still rear facing because DS is 11m, but my goal is to get to whenever we have #2 and need another carseat. Unfortunately I'm too tall to accommodate 2 RF seats. If all goes to plan we'll have #2 when D is 2.5-3. But right now he's pretty easy to put in the seat and plays happily if I give him Sophie. If that changes down the line or if he gets distracting, we'll reassess whether it's safer to be FF.

@mediagirl: 30 months is awesome! We will RF until she outgrows the RF limits of the seat.

@Aimed: Is his seat on the side or in the middle? I kept hitting my daughter's head. Moving her seat helped!

@Aimed: What kind of car do you have? If you're using LATCH, many vehicles don't allow center LATCH, or LATCH borrowing. But, you can usually use the center seatbelt, which is just as safe as the latch system. Your car's user manual will tell you exactly where you can use latch. I'm happy to look it up for you.

I don't bonk her head now that she's in the middle. I think it's because there's so much room right by the door now.

Once LO#2 arrived our car really couldn't fit 2 RFing seats and my DH (who is 6'5.) Thankfully we made it to 24 months. LO#1 was quickly approaching outgrowing rear facing in his particular carseat anyways. He had no problem RFing though, and his first ride FFing he gripped the sides of his seat so hard his knuckles were white the entire trip!

J outgrew the height limit at 2.5yrs

He's off the charts for height and outgrew the RF limit on his seat a few weeks after he turned 2 (actually probably earlier but I really wanted to make it til 2). I fought it for a while with DH, but I have to say he is SO much happier and car rides are so much more peaceful FF.

We just did, a little after she turned 2. I fell trying to get her in the car (back gave out) so I decided a correctly installed FF seat wasn't the end of the world, esp past 2!

We switched to FF when he was 22 months since LO#2 was due to arrive in 2 months. The seat didn't fit RF behind the driver & we wanted him to get used to it beforehand.

Our car seat (safety first air) wasn't stable RF in our SUV (it was fine in our old car). I read to use a rolled towel underneath but it compressed so much and was still wobbly. She's was nearly 18 months but if I wish we just would have bought a different seat instead of switching to FF. She's 28 months now so it's not a big deal...but I'll definitely buy a different seat for LO #3 (the Britax marathon worked fine RF in our car).

Oh and with my first, the ped suggested we switch him to FF at 12 months! But that was in 2010 before the AAP changed the RF age.

@mediagirl: I asked why too- just in case you want to read more, it's here (http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/why-did-you-turn-your-convertible-seat-to-face-forward) but you got lots of new responses here too. It's interesting reading peoples reasons since I'm not there yet.

LO is super tiny (he's almost 23 months and still has to use the infant insert at <20 pounds) so we'll be rear-facing for awhile. I actually think it's easy to load him this way and will keep him this way as long as I can. He has a mirror, so it doesn't seem to bother him.

DD is 30 months, and we're still RF. She's not super tall, so she'll be able to RF for a while. I'll probably turn her around at age 3, even if she hasn't outgrown the height limit yet.

We did it at 14 months. We moved to France and the car we were using couldn't accommodate the car seat in a RF position and have room for the front seat passenger.
