H is almost 3 mos and she sucks on her fists a lot the past few weeks. She's also been drooling a ton, and spitting up more. Why does fist-sucking and excess drool cause more spit up? She doesnt stick her fist that far back in her mouth. I've Dr Googled it and all I can find is that it just does, but I can't find why...

My guess is she is generating a lot of drool with the hand sucking and that excess drool is filling her little tummy so it's full and that causes her to spit up more? Just my guess.
I can kind of recall my LO drooling so much around 3-4 months...we had a little bib on her all the time so she wouldn't soak all her outfits...I remember thinking she was going to look ridiculous wearing a bib with all her outfits but it only lasted a month or two...then the drool got under control. I thought it was teething but her pediatrician said it wasn't necessarily teething but her body learning how to make saliva.

@sandy: That would be my guess as well! My LO has been drooling a ton lately and spitting up more, and the spit up is almost clear sometimes, there's so much saliva in it!

@PrincessBaby: omg I wish I knew the answer to this too! A's hands and fingers are always in her mouth, she even tries to sneak them in there while nursing (but the girl's nails are SHARP!) and it's drool/spit up city! As an aside though, it's really making me mad that people keep telling me she's hungry because of it. Every time someone sees her on Skype they're all "aw poor thing, you're hungry aren't you?". Grrrr, no, I feed my child all the time thank you, babies just suck on their fingers! Lol.
