How long has he been asleep in your arms? Babies go into a much deeper sleep at 20 min, so if it's been that long, you could try again.

When you put him down, does he start crying? J started doing this. I try leaving him in there, but staying in the nursery ( like I am right now) and waiting to see if he'll go back to sleep. Most times, I have to retuck his arms into his deafen and replace a pacifier, but he usually goes back to sleep on his own. I know that's not much help if he's fussing a lot when you put him down.

Can you try putting him in bed feet first and gradually lying him down? Warming up his bed with a hot water bottle or wheatbag? Lie him on his side then roll him on to his back?

@.twist.: putting the mobile on for R has helped her fall asleep. I stay with her for the entire first time and then put it on again and leave quietly.

My DH's grandfather made her fall asleep last week by stroking her nose for a few minutes. It worked for DH as well.

Can you try not changing the diaper? I don't unswaddle or diaper change in the middle of the night- she almost always only pees during the night. It helps Keep her half asleep for the whole thing.

Oh and we leave it dark the whole time. I turn the dinner all the way down so I can just see that her eyes are open or closed pretty much. But I'm guessing you are already doing that.

like the others have said, i think going without a diaper change is a good idea if there's no poop!

when my LO started to not fall asleep after a night feeding, i honestly was at a loss. i went back and nursed him a couple of times the first few nights, but eventually i just put him back in the crib and left him alone. he usually fussed for about 15-20 minutes before going back to sleep (and if he didn't, i would keep going back and try to nurse him to sleep). 15-20 minutes feels like a long time at night, though, so i understand if this is not an appealing option.

I agree no diaper change unless it feels super full or you know he poop.

I would have to hold R for a good 20 mins after she fell asleep before I could put her down. Then I would put her in the crib and lay my hand on her chest for a couple minutes before I would walk out.

Hang in there! It is tough. Things only got better for us once we sleep trained.

@.twist.: Have you tried white noise? We have a sound machine and the sound of rain usually does the trick after a few minutes (as long as he's drowsy).

@.twist.: I hear ya on being short. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to put J down only get his blanket stuck between me and the crib and as a result unswaddled him. He usually wakes up and we start over. The joys of being vertically challenged.

@.twist.: No advice I'm afraid but we're going through the same thing at the moment and have been wondering why S will fall asleep in either of our arms but about a minute after placing her in the moses basket she wakes up and starts crying. I'm sure she's not hungry because I offer her boob and she takes like one suck and pops off. This morning I brought her into bed with us- though like @skibobrown: said, I'm still pretty reluctant to try co-sleeping at this stage, so for a couple of hours I had a sleeping S on one side of me and a sleeping Dh on the other and forced myself to stay awake!!

@.twist.: hey lady. I do hope things have got better with L, but incase they haven't I found this link when researching. We are having slightly similar issues with S. Just the first couple of case studies are really useful about sleep cycles- I haven't read the rest.
