I am going to wait until she asks!

The only reason that I will when she is a baby, is because if she is anything like me. I have a really really REALLY low pain tolerance, and I will always remember getting my ears pierced. I would rather have her not remember!

ETA: I have my ears pierced but only b/c it was done when I was younger. I don't wear earrings and wouldn't re-pierce them per our religious beliefs. We plan to raise DD and all our children the same hoping that even as they grow to the age of making their own decisions they'd adhere to/have the same convictions based on the knowledge they've gained.

Undecided. In my husband's culture girls are basically born with pierced ears. I don't see anything wrong with it, and its probably easy to keep clean when they are a baby (vs a young child that 'forgets').

Absolutely! She is my child and I will make her decisions for a long time obviously. I don't see why I wouldn't pierce her ears. I can't wait:)

It's a tradition in our family, so I would.

We will wait till she is old enough to ask to get them pierced. I am not a huge fan of babies with pierced ears.

Yes! My mom has never had her ears pierced and wouldn't let me til I was 18. I had been asking since I was like 5. My sister never wanted her pierced them ended up getting them at like 19 or 20. It's just a tiny hole, if the child doesn't want them later, they can take them out and it will close. No big deal.

Yes! I had planned to wait until she asked, but DH loves them and we'll get them when she is a baby. I remember wanting them so bad, but not being so good at taking care of them, let them get infected, and have had them re-pierced so many times growing up. I'd rather just do it as a baby and then I can take care of them for her. But to each their own!

Not until I feel she's old enough, which is pretty arbitrary--most likely around 8/9 yrs old. I personally wouldn't do it as a baby, but to each their own!

Nope, I'd wait until she asks. Made me sad to see my niece's ears pierced at 6mo...

@Honeybee: Pretty much ditto this.

My ears rejected all earrings though I pierced and re-pierced them a bunch of times. I could take them out for one night and they'd just close up. I respect my girls' desires to have pierced ears if they want them, but later when they can care for them.

Probably not. I had mine pierced as a baby and have no issue if someone decides to have their LOs ears pierced. I just don't think I could handle holding a LO through it. I'll probably wait until they can ask for themselves.

Definitely not as a baby - just my personal preference, but I absolutely abhor seeing earrings on babies. I just think it looks so wrong. But then again, I also hate when people dress their babies as mini-adults and I think the earring thing just feeds into it!

If DD asks to have her ears pierced, it will be a privilege she can earn, but she will have to be at least 8 years old before it can become a possibility. She will also be restricted to small, little girl earrings, no big dangly earrings, or anything an adult would wear.

@FutureMrsMcK: That's exactly how I feel. I was 10 and it was definitely a rite of passage.

@Anagram: I feel the same way and am also holding it in. I class ear piercing with circumcision and all other body modifications that I would never impose on my child. If she wants hers ears pierced we'll have it done when she's old enough to take care of it. My ears aren't pierced.

Obviously I am...I think...I'm slightly worried about a choke hazard if she gets them undone, but I'm hoping that won't happen with a nice pair...

I had my ears pierced when I was 5 and thought it was horrendously painful...And then I messed with them and they got terribly infected. My mom had my sister's done when she was a few months old and my sister cried for like 30 seconds and was fine, and since she was too little to bother them, they never got infected. So on top of thinking it's super cute, I'd like to not traumatize her with remembering pain!

DD has had 60 Jillion heel pricks for bilirubin tests, and has even had blood drawn out of her little vein for blood tests:(. She powered through all of that like a total trooper, so I think ears getting pierced will be no big deal!
