This sounds intriguing...some time away from the kids when they are older?

Ehhh I'm not sure!! It'll depend on how I feel when they're older. Right now I can't imagine letting them go for that long butttt that could definitely change. I loved going to camp! Maybe I could ease my way in with day camps in town...that I already know I could do.

YES! I used to go for 6 weeks...in another state! It was the best! I made lifelong friends and has so many great experiences.
Plus I know I'll love the alone time with DH

If they want to, I'll be on board. I liked camp as a kid, but preferred day camps to sleep away. I've always been a homebody!

Probably not for the whole summer...maybe for 4 weeks or so? Only if they really wanted to go. I never did sleep away, I did day camp...but I think I would have liked sleep away!

G has gone to our church's summer camp (4 days 3 nights) every summer since he started kindergarten. He'll likely continue help until he graduates and then hopefully serve at them!
I don't think I'd do something much longer than a couple weeks long.

I went to sleep away camp for 3 summers and it was so much fun. I think we were only gone for 2-3 weeks at a time.

Definitely, if they want to and we can afford it! I begged my mom to let me go, and never did!

Sure, if she wants to go. I went every summer for a while when I was a kid and I know my parents liked the "free" time.

YES. I hope we can afford it! My husband and I met as counselors at a summer camp, and a lot of our good friends come from the same camp, so we envision all of our kids going at the same time. Sessions are about 3 weeks. I think camp has the potential to build independence and offer a home away from home.

Probably not. I never went.... and I would miss them so much. If they really want to id think about it though.

I would send them for a short amount of time (a few weeks at most) if I could afford it. I always wanted to go to sleep away camp and never had the chance.

Yes but for only a week or 2 max. I would miss him to much. I went to camp for a week with my good friend and had a blast! I want p to expierence that!

Sure, if she wanted to. I can't even imagine having her out of the house for weeks on end, but I'd cope for her sake.

Yes! I attended a week long Christian sleep away camp as a teen and it was so much FUN. I know lots of kids who went to sleep away camps much younger. Anyone ever heard of Young Life?

Definitely, having gone to and working at a sleep over summer camp, I think the experience is something all kids should go through!

Yup! During a few summers, DH and I both went to nerd camp (aka CTY) when were young (though we never met each other since we were at different sites) and grew up going to church retreats for a few nights so if our kids wanted to attend, we'd definitely want them to. I'd personally probably prefer them do day camp until they were a bit older, but I'd be open to sleep away for a few weeks.

I went and think it was an awesome experience, but I'm not sure that I'll want to be away from my girls like that. Then again, I went to boarding school and I'd never let my girls do that either!

i would. i loved summer camp, but it's different in california. max 1 week wheres in ny it can be for the whole summer!
pomegranate / 3604 posts
If we can afford it, for sure. But only for like 2 weeks; a whole summer is a bit much.

I don't think so, unless it was some special thing. I never went so it's not really on my radar. We all joined beach clubs for the summer and that's where all the kids wanted to be so I assume it'll be the same for my kids.

Definitely! I only went to sports-related summer camps but they were SO fun. I want my kids to experience something like that.

DH went for a month starting when he was 7. He lived it but its $$$. I don't know if I could send our kids but my MIL is already offering to send them away.... And our daughter is 4 months. Ha.
