Can't think of anything else but I would love to see this blog post! I am 1 for 4 too and I just did the 1 this past weekend.

I keep bugging dh about this. Would love a blog post, maybe it will help me motivate him!

We have talked about all this and just need to go DO it!!
Things are a little hectic now so hopefully in the Fall.

We have life insurance and are going to be working on the next four after baby is born. It's important for me to for sure have guardianship figured out, I think we know already just need ot get it on paper. We don't have a lot for a will, but everything will go to children. Living will is the one that scares me, makes things so scary for me.

We don't have kids, so the only thing we have is the life insurance.

We're good on life insurance, though I need to bump mine up a bit and we both will need to add on LO(s) as beneficiaries...

We need to start on the others. I think instead of a will, we're going to set up a trust.

I would also add:

-Durable General Power of Attorney
-Power of Attorney for Health Care
-Living revocable trust
-Disability insurance
-Retirement/pension accounts (update beneficiary information if necessary)

@mrbee: Thank you for starting this post! I read it last night and DH and I briefly talked about it before deciding it's too morbid to discuss right now.

Well my classes were canceled today due to the kiddies going on a hike, so I had time ... well, I've written my will! I Googled templates, rearranged and deleted some things and now it's done!

WE REALLY need to get this stuff taken care of. We have our life insurance taken care of.

I agree with Birdie Putt's additions. We are about to start TTC but (1) we both have life insurance, (2) DH has a will that will be updated (it was done prior to us getting married and I'm the beneficiary anyway), (3) DH has disability insurance, (4) We have a listing of all retirement accounts and current balances as well as other financial information in one place.

I'm not looking forward to the guardianship discussion as it will have to be my BIL and SIL and I can't think of anyone who would raise my future child so differently than I would. Oh well.

I agree with PP that having all that stuff is great, but you need to let people know where you keep it - and keep it all together so that if something does happen, someone knows how to get in contact with your attorney, where you keep the insurance papers, etc. I can say this - but we haven't done it yet, ha ha. We just updated our estate stuff and our attorney is going to forward us his business cards so we can get it to our appointed guardian so at least he knows where to start.

We recently got life insurance and have named a guardian.for LO. We have not written a will, but at this point, we.have no huge assets. We will get to it, but for now, everyone knows that my sister and BIL are LO's guardians.

How does one officially name a guardian?

We have life insurance and that's it.

We have no idea who would ever take our son. This is so scary for us. We don't trust our siblings and we love both sets of our parents so that would be hard to choose, not to mention they are older too.

We need to get on our wills ASAP. I want them done. lol

@cheesetomywhine: I would try to find a recommendation for a good estate attorney. Someone who will answer all your questions and then put all your wishes in a legal document. Ours was a recommendation from a work colleague.
