We had wooden plantation shutters put in recently. They have 4 panels total - two top and two bottom. We also live in a pre-war condo which means window AC units. We obviously knew all of this when we chose the shutters. So we have our ACs in now which means the bottom of the shutters has to stay open, leaving a gap between the top of the AC unit and the top shutter letting all sorts of sunlight in. I want to find a temporary shade thing to cover that but am not having much luck so thought maybe HB could help! I don't care if it's a disposable option or something we can remove and reuse year after year. I'm looking for a window cling or contact paper option that I can cut to size. All I've been finding are things you would use in your car for the baby, car window tint, privacy film, full size temporary shades for the whole window, permanent options... You get the idea. I don't know if I'm searching for the wrong things or if what I want just doesn't exist.

Not the most attractive solution, but Home Depot Redi Shade is basically folded black construction paper so you can cut it to size, and it actually blocks out light better than anything else I've seen. We have had full size ones in my toddlers room for two years (behind more attractive curtains). For just that little part of a window you could probably just buy one and cut it. You use double sided tape to attach it pretty much.

@LindsayInNY: we use this on our skylights - blocks light really well and keeps the heat from the sun out - we cut it to size and reuse it

@Foodnerd81: Anything will look better than the aluminum foil I taped up, LOL! I wonder if you're right about cutting it and using on multiple windows... That would be ideal!

@LindsayInNY: it's literally black construction paper so you could definitely cut it. You just might have to get extra double sided tape. The only issue we ever had in our two years of using it is when we had a humidifier going full blast near the windows, some of the tape unstuck. we never open or shut it (it comes with plastic clips to hold the "blinds" open, aka folded more tightly together.

We just moved into our new house, and put up the Home Depot paper shades posted above on our French doors until we figure out what we want to do with them. They definitely can be cut easily, stick well, and don't look tacky! I was impressed with them.

@LindsayInNY: We used those paper ready blinds behind our plantation shudders and the kids rooms are pitch black. They work fabulously and can be cut easily .
