It gets cold where I live and the bedroom might be 20 degrees celcius when the rest of the house is at 23.
The sleep sacks all have arms free which i cant help but wonder if that will be cold?
Currently I'm dressing LO in a fleece sleeper and a 1 tog sleepsack but i want to buy another 2.5 tog one and maybe do without the fleece sleeper. But I worry he will still be cold with his arms free?

@Umbreon: our house was 18 last night and I just had my baby in a 2.5 tog cotton sleep sack and a cotton sleeper. If it gets really cold you could put a T-shirt onesie underneath their sleeper and socks on their feet plus the 2.5 sleep sack. It depends a little bit on your kid.
Their hands will be cold, but there’s not much helping that.
They do sell sleep sacks with arms, but I have never bought one for any of my kids (just had my third). Our house stays between 18-21 and I haven’t had an issue with them sleeping comfortably yet. I have never dressed them in anything fleece for sleep because I don’t like how it can make them sweaty.
My middle kid is in a twin bed, but doesn’t keep blankets on so I put him in a 1.0 tog footless sleep sack and two piece pjs with socks. I might buy a footless 2.5 tog for winter since he’s all over his bed at night and that room gets colder with an outside wall.

I got flannel sleep sacks with arms and you can get fleece as well. I just liked the flannel better.

Ergo Pouch makes a tog 2.5 and 3.5 sleep sack with long sleeves that also has mittens you can fold over their hands. Baby deedee also has one that looks like sleeping bag material. It also has arms and is a 3.5 tog sack. I had a 3.5 tog ergo pouch for my son last season and it worked great. His room would get down to 58 degrees in the winter.

We kept it at 70 this past winter for our newborn which was SO HOT for me🥵. This winter (northern NY) we'll do like 67 with a fleece sleeper and our fleece Halo.

@Tionn3: Was he ok in the cold? My husband thinks anything under 70 is cruel but I heard 65 is best to sleep at. Even for babies? Idk...? I prefer like 62!!

@pachamama: We sleep at 64 and E was in cotton long sleeve jammies and a long sleeve flannel sleep sack. Sometimes her hands felt a little chilly but she never woke up from the cold.

First off, colder is safer. So that’s a plus!
Cotton is breathable, so do that with a warm sleep sack.. tog level that matches the room temp.
ETA: our kids rooms at our last house were cold. We didn’t have central air. They slept great. Woke up with cold hands but if you research, colder is preferable than warm for SIDS etc.

@pachamama: I think he was fine. There were times where I doubled up on his pjs. He would wear a fleece sleeper with a long sleeve onesie underneath plus the 3.5 tog sleep sack. A couple of nights I put the thermostat at 65. His room is the hottest in the summer and the coldest in the winter, it probably has bad insulation.

@Umbreon: we keep the house a similar temp at night and my preference was always cotton pjs and a 2.5 tog sleepsack in the cold months. If they wore fleece pjs, I used a lighter sleep sack. Fleece plus 2.5 tog always left my kids very sweaty. If you stick your hand inside the sleep sack and feel his stomach while he’s sleeping you’ll be able to tell if he’s warm or cold.

Thanks everyone. Lots to consider here. I wish he could tell me if he was cold. Sometimes I'm warm but get a bit of a chill and cant help but wonder if he is the same. I like tons of blankets when I sleep!

@Umbreon: I’d say if he isn’t sleeping restlessly or waking up then he’s fine. And like others have said, it’s better for them to be on the cooler side

Update - I bought an ergopouch 2.5 sleep sack and i still feel like he might be cold! I have been dressing him in a fleece sleeper with the sleep sack. I might try a onesie underneath.
We moved him into his own room and it gets cool with the door closed. If the house is set to 23, its 20 in his room.
I might get a 3.5 sleepsack and try that. They are just so expensive!
Or maybe I should just keep his door open for airflow. We have cats and I worry about them waking him if they get the "zoomies" in the middle of the night.

@Umbreon: my baby's room is probably between 65-68 degrees F (18-20c).
We do a 2.5 sleep sack (baby dee dee- look on Kidizen you can get them used!), long sleeve cotton jammies over a thin merino onesie. If you don't want to invest in the merino (though I'd highly recommend it for temp regulating!) I think a cotton onesie would add a nice layer.
Always feel the back of their neck to determine if they are warm enough or not, not their hands.
