Clinton, but I don't like her or her politics. But she's not a scary as a Trump, and a vote for anyone other than Clinton is a wasted vote.

@Truth Bombs: Yes. Even if there was a third-party candidate I'd prefer, I'm too afraid of Trump to vote for anyone but Hillary at this point.

I'm a republican who is voting for Clinton. Trump is a nightmare of epic proportions and I'm disgusted on behalf of my party.

@Truth Bombs: I'm with you. Lesser of the two evils.

I'm a very moderate Democrat from the South so my personal top choice was Jim Webb this year... second choice was Bernie even though I disagree with him on a lot because at least he seems like an honest guy. Now, I'm going to vote for Hillary because #NeverTrump.

@DillonLion: My dad is an extremely conservative Republican who never strays from the party line and he is writing in Ronald Reagan this year LOL.

Gary Johnson. I can't in good conscience vote for Trump or Hillary. A vote is for who you want to be president, not who you think everyone else wants. A wasted vote is either not voting, or voting for someone you don't want. If Hillary or Trump wins and things go badly, I will at least know that I did what I could to prevent it.

A thousand times Hillary.
@DillonLion: Good for you for putting country before party. I like to think I'd do the same if the Dems put forward a disastrous candidate in the future.

@hummusgirl: This is my 3rd general election and I've voted democrat, republican, democrat. I guess I'm not such a republican if you really look at it, ha! And really, I'm not. I'm more of a libertarian.

@AmeliaBedilia: Do you mean Gary Johnson? That's who my husband and I will likely be voting for, too.

So torn. I want to write in Bernie on principle, but I sure as hell don't want Trump to win if Hillary somehow didn't get enough votes. I also have a little bit of belief it isn't even in the people's hands, anyway. Our government is a very powerful entity that gets their way however necessary. There are too many instances of voters not getting to vote in the primaries or caucuses, etc, that looks suspicious to me.

@Mrs D: I really and truly promise I won't flame you, I probably won't even respond to your response... but can you say why? I'm a Republican who has always voted Republican. But from where I sit Trump is racist and has literally never presented an ACTUAL plan for any policy changes/improvements. And his desire to close the borders will be hugely negative to the US and Global Economy. So, I can't see a redeeming factor. Most of the people I've seen who admit to voting for Trump are either also racist, or scared Hillary will take away all their guns, neither of which apply to you as far as I know. There's the argument that he's a good business man, but he got seed money from his family, and bankrupted multiple companies along the way, so I can't buy in to that "point" for him either. I'm truly just curious to hear specifics of what would motivate an open minded, educated person to vote for him.

@Truth Bombs: I had a conversation with DH now that this looks to be our choices. He actually brought up that he would consider Trump just because he doesn't think congress will follow him and the crazy ideas. So he's banking on the idea of balance of power to control Trump. He says that may be the lesser of the two evils being that he doesn't support Hillary and a lot of the democratic stances she has. He thinks that she would actually have the support of enough of congress to do some of the things he doesn't support.

@T.H.O.U.: But that's looking at things in a national bubble rather than from a Global perspective. Even if Trump doesn't actually 'do' anything, the simple fact that our country elected him would do irreparable damage to foreign relations (in my opinion). I really don't want Hillary taxing me even more than I'm already taxed, and spending my money on programs I don't agree with, and I don't trust her as far as I can throw her, but it's still preferable to what I think will be the effects of a Trump presidency.

@Truth Bombs: Firstly I appreciate you having faith that I am not a racist, am open minded and educated! I am very socially liberal on most topics, and am fiscally conservative.
I am happy to share my opinions - while I respect and understand that most people have different opinions than mine all I ask is that others do the same. I wont change my mind - so anyone who wants to simply try to convince me otherwise please save your time!
First and foremost - I do not think Trump is perfect or support some of his extreme comments. He has flaws and I am quite aware of them. Most of his comments that offend me are so extreme I know they will never become reality. As @T.H.O.U.: mentioned I think Congress will balance him out and keep the crazy at bay. I do support milder/less harsh/more reasonable versions of some of his ridiculous comments.
I do think he is a sound business man. Yes he received $1M seed money (so far as I know) but look at what he turned it into? As for bankrupting companies...I firmly believe that sometimes the right answer is bankruptcy - and sometimes it takes a strong person to make the difficult decisions. I personally work for a company that declared bankruptcy in the early 2000's, emerged around 2010, re-listed in 2011 and has performed amazingly since. Sometimes you need to file bankruptcy to get your shit together.
And most importantly...I'm sick of politicians. I'm sick of the bullshit (sorry...swear word). I'm sick of these slimey individuals and ready to try something different. To me, Hillary is the worst of the worst. She has lied repeatedly. She has endangered Americans. And the email thing is absolutely absurd. She thinks she is above the law...to do what she did is just mind boggling to me. People who minimize it baffle me. I'm ready to have someone who is outside the Washington mold. Someone who, although I may not always agree with what he says, at least speaks his mind - not what some writer has decided he "should say" or what "people want to hear". I'll take honesty over deceitful any day and to me...I literally trust not one word out of her mouth.
As for his skills/abilities. I trust as a businessman he is capable of and willing to hire the best of the best to advise him. I have high hopes he will do the same if elected president. I do also feel that his ability to run businesses the way he has lends to his ability to function on a global level with other world leaders - based on the support from his advisers.
I think that sums it up to an extent. I'm on a conference call multi-tasking so if this is scattered I apologize!

@Mrs D: I can certainly understand your dislike for Hillary, and politicians in general. To me, it's great in theory to support a Washington "outsider" but if that outsider simply disagrees with the status quo but doesn't offer actual concrete plans to do things differently, then he is offering nothing. I do often hear the argument that Trump is smart enough to hire skilled advisors, but I haven't seen him do it yet regarding his campaign, and I think he's too arrogant for anything to be different if he were to become president. As much as I don't agree with most democratic politics, positive foreign relations, protecting global trade/economies, and protecting basic civil rights of minorities are too important for me to overlook for the sake of staying with my party. I know I won't change your mind, and don't intend to, I really was just curious. Thanks for responding.

@Mrs D: Thanks for responding! It's so great to have a place like this where people can discuss these things rationally.
I will say this about Trump - his lack of fundraising is gonna be hella trouble for the GOP, the man HATES fundraising.
But here's the thing - NOBODY like fundraising. And if you ask legislators, Republican or Democrat, they'll tell you that's the one part of their job they ALL absolutely hate. Yet, they are forced by the GOP or the DNC to spend an insane number of hours per week doing it, and to raise an insane amount of $$ per year. If they don't play the game, they get forced off committees, leadership positions taken away, etc. Why does this make any sense?? It's absurd! Like, please just let these people do their jobs!
If there's anything I wish (or think) he could change about Washington, it would be that.
If he does get elected, I hope you're right and that he hires people to work for him that will stand up to him. Unfortunately, that doesn't really seem to be a pattern for him ...

I'll end up voting for Hillary because I don't feel good about not voting. Hopefully the GOP gets their act together.

@Mrs D: I completely agree with you about Hillary. I wish Trump hadn't gotten so mouthy and started spewing hate because I would've been excited about voting for an outsider, too.

I'm an immigrant so can't vote, but I'd vote Hillary. DH voted for Bernie in the primaries and will be voting Hillary. Ethically, we couldn't vote for Trump.

Clinton for sure! It baffles me that Trump has gotten this far. Maybe he'll ask Sarah Palin to be his VP for an even bigger shitshow.

@Truth Bombs: @MrsSCB: @pwnstar: ugh, yep.
@DillonLion: I don't know a single conservative who isn't going your way or throwing their vote to the libertarian party. I can't wait for this election to be over.

Hillary. I think writing in a vote or something else would just be throwing a vote away in this election.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Truth Bombs: I have heard the "he has no concrete plans...he's announced no policies" argument a fair amount... for me personally this "rebuttal" if you will as a reason to not vote for him means nothing to me. Even if he has no plans and has no concrete policy suggestions - it would be better for me then Hilary's policies and plans. No policies/plans is better in my eyes than hers which are far too liberal to sit well with me.
Although the positive in my eyes is that she is so corrupt and political that if elected I hold out hope she won't accomplish much...
grapefruit / 4321 posts
@Mrs D: so my response to your last comment is that really you're voting for Trump because he's not Hillary, rather than because he's Trump.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Truth Bombs: Right now - yes. My vote for him is more a vote against her. I hope he can clean himself up a bit...enlighten us on his plans and swing that back to being a true vote for him. I did not vote for him in the primary.

I'm a Bernie supporter but will vote for Hillary. Trump Is a joke and a disgusting human being. I feel like a write in is a waste, it does nothing.
