I nurse my LO (3.5 months) before work, pump three times at work, and nurse her 1-2 more times in the evening. I have been getting up to pump in the middle of the night because she sleeps through. Do I have to continue doing this? It's getting really annoying, but I'm worried I'm not emptying enough times during the day and my supply will drop.
What do you do??

I've dropped to 4 pumps a day (6am, 11am, 3:30pm, 10pm) and my supply has kept steady, thankfully. But in the beginning I did get up and pump at night during her night feedings, around 2 or 3am.

I'm going to try to sleep through the night again tonight. I just pumped before bed and got 8 oz so I feel pretty good about it. I hate being so obsessed with my supply!

@yellowbird: If I were you I'd give it a shot and if your supply dips, just go back to doing a night pumping. The sleep is worth the risk, I think!!

@yellowbird: WOW, I'd love to pump 8oz in one session.
I do not routinely pump at night but DS still gets up one time to nurse overnight (between 2-4AM). I nurse before leaving for work, pump 3x at work and then nurse 2x before I got to bed at 10PM, sometimes I'll pump at 8PM but not always.

Oh the elusive question of whether or not to pump at night. I ask myself this almost everyday but I can't bear to give up that milk. Monday- Friday I get up in the night to pump so I have the peace of mind that there is more than enough milk ready for the time that I am at work. My LO is 4.5 months now and that extra milk has been so helpful in the last few weeks since her intake has increased.
So my pump/nurse schedule on average looks like this- 6:30 a.m. pump since LO is still sleeping, 11:00 a.m. pump at work, 2:30 p.m. pump, 5:00- 8:00 p.m. nurse LO at least 3 times ( I think this helps keep my supply up) 2:00 a.m. pump and sometime nurse Lo after pumping or nurse around 5:00 a.m.
Being dedicated to BF is its own kind of labor of love.

Oh my gosh! That is dedication. I have never been able to wake myself up to do something. Only if baby wakes me do I get up to do anything at night. I have been back at work since he was 2 months (now 4.5) and have never gotten up to pump at night. I am starting to struggle a bit to keep up with him now, but I still haven't given any formula at all and I think that's pretty good for 4.5 months. My schedule is this:
Nurse around 5 am one side only. Pump the other side.
(I find if I give both sides he just spits up a ton and he seems happy taking just one at this time of day.)
Nurse (both sides) at 8 am before I leave.
Pump 2-3 times at work, depending on my schedule.
Nurse 2 (both sides) times at night before bed.

Yes, LO went to bed around 8 when I went back to work and I would pump at 10, 12 and 2 for the first few months! Then only 2 times...

I stopped pumping overnight when she stopped waking at night, which was around 7 months.
I would pump both sides right before I went to bed and that would keep me empty until the morning.
