we hvae wood flooring, but no, Im not too nervous about it. We have an oriental rug in the living room where she mostly plays, so we'll get some sort of gate when shes really mobile. Aside from that, if she wants to toddle around, we'll probably keep her feet bare (until shes in shoes) and do a little hovering =o)

we have wood flooring and sure charlie has bonked his head many times -- just last week in fact.
but they'll outgrow the wobbly stage fast enough. baby gates were great for us too when charlie was standing/cruising. i think you should go for the wood flooring!

We have wood flooring but we covered it with foam tiles.

It looks really cute and it's easy to clean. It's probably one of the best investments we made in terms of baby-related stuff.

@banana: we actually covered charlie's room in those same soft tiles too, and you're right -- they were great!

Our house is all wood floors, minus the tile in kitchen and baths. That's one thing that was a must on our list because it's so much easier to keep clean and for me also better for allergies. Go hardwood, you won't regret it!

@tequiro21: We covered our entire living room/playroom area and it cost around $200? I guess depending on how much square footage you need. I called and asked for samples and they sent me like 3 free samples so you can see the color/texture before making your decision. And they have tons of colors to choose from
At first we thought it was kind of pricey but it ended up being soooooo worth it. Kids get rowdy through elementary school so I know we'll be using it for years. We also had a few extra tiles that we put outside in the patio area to keep our LO's feet cool while playing with his water table. They're great cause they're both for indoor and outdoor use. My mom took a few of the extra foam tiles to use on her kitchen floor as a kitchen mat. lol

We have wood floors, but I'm not concerned about it. I grew up in a house with wood floors, and I turned out A-ok.

My parents have wood floors and I lived with them for the first two years of my daughters life. I wasn't nervous about it but lots of clothes and socks were always necesary in the winter because the floors were cold.

@cyndistar3: this is where we are lucky, we have heated floors. so I think actually it would help warm our house during the winter.

We have wood floors and we have foam wood tiles too. My LO hasn't bonked her head on the wood yet, but it does worry me. :T I was thinking about getting her a Thudgard but haven't decided whether it's worth it.

I wish we had wood! We have tile in our entire apartment, with the heating element in the floor. It's warm enough, but it's hard when my LO falls on it. Good thing it's been pants weather as he's covered with bruises on his legs from crawling.

Wood gives. That is why it is used for basketball and dance floors. I would worry less about wood than tile. Yes it is somewhat harder than carpet but from their height it won't matter (something higher may be a concern.)

Wow I love those soft tiles! I've seen something like this at our local walmart but it was in pieces and i thought it was sometype of Jumbo jigsaw puzzle!! I only now realize what it is LOL

I love wood floors! We have tile and I'm not too excited about it for when she starts moving around, but we have friends with tile and their LO is fine. And I'm sure lots of other people in the world also do and are fine.

We have all wood. Baby Y is thissssss close to crawling. We just plunk him on rugs and his playmat. He always manages to scoot off and has taken a few tumbles, but he's fine

We'll be installing hardwood floors in our new house and I don't worry so much about kids falling (like Mr. Bee said they outgrow that stage pretty quickly). I worry more about them destroying the floors by rolling cars back and forth or just general wear and tear they will get from banging toys. We'll probably try to keep the toys mostly located in a different room that will be designated as a playroom to avoid this.

@banana: nice! i will definitely add that to my list of things to get.

We have wood floors as well & I'm not too worried about it either. they're already so close to the floor that if they fall it's not a long way down

We have hardwoods in every room of the house.
I am not nervous about the little one though... babies are more resilient than we give them credit for.
