I'm a trial attorney, and I just don't see how I'll be able to take breaks to pump every 3-4 hours after I have the baby. Not only am I likely to be in court or in a deposition all day, I'm not going to be anywhere near a "pumping room."
I'm sure there are plenty of other pumping moms with similar work situations. How do you handle it? Do you just insist on 20 minute breaks every few hours and make everyone else wait? Do you bring your pump with you everywhere and just pump in a bathroom? Do you just skip pumping sessions?
I've had to pump in some awkward places while doing on-site investigations/interviews. Make sure to scope out/ask what rooms are available to you -- I've pumped in my car (while commuting and while in the parking lot), in meeting rooms, and in other people's offices. You need to make it a priority, otherwise it won't be and you're supply will suffer. I've been struggling with this recently and have made an effort to calendar pumping in 2-3x a day while I'm in the office. I've had to tell partners I need 20 minutes before we get a meeting going, etc. They understand but it's still kind of awkward for me to put myself/my baby first but it's what best for my LO/our family.
