We went out hunting for a tree this weekend and we found 2 we like. One is $160... and the other is $260. We like the more expensive one more (it's bigger/wider and looks slightly more realistic) but we dont know if we like it $100 more.

We just spent about $280 on ours, and that was 30% off. Totally worth it for us because the tree sets up in about a minute and it looks really nice and full, plus we will have it for years.

I think it is worth it. Spending a little bit more on fake trees gets you trees that look better / fuller / more realistic. And they are often easier to set up too!

@loveisstrange: I think the one from Lowes looks more realistic, so I like that one better. But I also noticed that the one from HD comes with a 3-year warranty and the one from Lowes doesn't come with a warranty. That was something we considered when purchasing ours. We spent a lot on ours, but it is super realistic looking and came with a 10-year warranty on parts and lights. We're planning to use it for many years to come, so it was worth the investment for us.

Yes - worth it. It's an investment piece for the next 5+ years, I'm assuming? You don't want to look at a $180 tree for that long and regret it every year that you didn't get the better looking one!

Have you checked out the At Home (used to be Garden Ridge)? The fuller Lowes tree looks so much better.

@blackbird: We're hoping they're going to do something in the next couple weeks. I looked vaguely at At Home a month or so ago, but we need to go back together. DH is surprisingly opinionated about it. lol.
@lawbee11: Thats definitely a good point about warranties. Something to consider!
@swurlygurl: Yeah, we are planning to keep whatever we buy for a few years, at least. And I think we would regret getting one we dont like. You have to look at that sucker for a month out of the year!

@blackbird: Just looked and Home Depot is doing 20% off all their artificial trees the whole weekend of Black Friday. Lowe's hasnt released their ad yet.

@loveisstrange: mmmm i bet Lowes comes out with something. If not, they might price match if it's the same brand (Lowes price matched a Kitchenaid mixer for me once to the Macy's price, then gave us 10% extra on top of that per store policy.... Then we got our 10% military discount).
Last year, Lowes offered 20% off their trees for Black Friday so I bet you're set!

@loveisstrange: We didn't have good luck with our tree from Garden Ridge/At Home. After 4 years it went in the garbage after last Christmas. It lost so many of the needles every year and just started to look bare.
We bought a new tree from a Christmas Decorators store and spent a lot on. They claimed it would last us for many years. I hope they are right. It's a Neuman Tree, if you can find a retailer near you.

I believe you get what you pay for and I'd rather buy once and spend more.
The second tree looks fuller, so I'd go for that one.

I think it's definitely worth it to spend more, esp if this is something you'll use for years to come.
