I came home 15 minutes early today from work. As I walked up to the house I could hear my LO (8 months) crying. I walked into the kitchen and she was in her high chair (not strapped in), with puffs on the tray. The water in the sink was on to defrost a bag of breastmilk and our babysitter was not in the room. I took LO out of the chair and about 2 minutes later the babysitter came out of the bathroom. she looked surprised to see me. I get it that we all have to go to the bathroom but it was very concerning that my LO was left alone with food on her tray and not strapped in. Am I over reacting?

Uh, no. You are not. (And I am a pretty relaxed mom.) I would definite have a talk with your nanny about your minimum expectations - always strapped in, not left alone with food...

Sorry read the age. Yea that's a bit long to be out of sight for two minutes. We never strapped LO in but we also never left her out of our sight.

We never strap R in the high chair. I am too afraid she will choke and we can't get her out fast enough. But I would be upset and I would say something.

We don't strap ours in either for the reason @smurfette: mentioned, but it would concern me to have food in front of her and left alone. My lo is 7 months and gags on smashed bananas, I would talk to her.

truth be told I don't strap her in either but I am also always in the kitchen with her. I will talk with her. This also feels like the straw for us and I think we are going to be ending our time together. Just need to collect my thoughts about it! Also wanted to make sure I wasn't over reacting.

I would be extremely upset about that too. I am somewhat sensitive to child care issues but this seems alarming to me. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this.

Nothing would upset me except the fact that she was left unattended with food. I do not take choking hazards lightly! I'd be really upset about that alone.

I would not have been pleased. There would have been nothing wrong with leaving her properly strapped into the high chair without puffs to make a quick bathroom break but it sounds like she wasn't thinking at all. That's the most concerning part -- what else has she not through in the past and what will she not think through in the future?! Yikes.

I would be upset! Leaving lo alone with food is a big no no for me, alot could happen in that amount of time.

Two minutes is a long time. She should be strapped in.
