First of all, I want to say that I have been really heartened by the recent uptick in blog posts and board participation - it feels like the HB community is alive and well. However, with the increasing number of blog posts, I have been pretty concerned with some of the content presented by the guest blogger, Judy. I have talked about it with @LBee: and we considered writing the bees, but we weren't sure if we were alone in our feelings.
Some of the posts by Judy, especially the two I'll link below, are mostly opinion pieces dressed up as expert information, backed up with out-of-context quotes or studies to support their dubious claims. As someone who valued this site immeasurably as a new mom, it's really alarming to see these types of posts given such a spotlight. It's especially concerning because HB is touted/thinks of itself as a welcoming and friendly community, and having these types of posts on the front page of the site as illustrative of the community does not set a great tone.

(This post really frustrated me because as an academic researcher in psychology (I study grit, self-regulation, emotion regulation, and all of these "21st century skills"), this is not what the research/science shows!)
We hate to single out a specific blogger, but we are honestly just wondering if we are alone in this feeling. Because this blogger has been advocated by the Bees, it feels like this is a larger statement about the direction HB is headed. This goes beyond disagreements on parenting practices and is headed toward parent-shaming with opinions backed by pseudoscience. It's pretty telling to us that in the first week of December, the front page features(/d) a post questioning if believing in Santa is going to mess up my kid instead of gift guides. (And shout-out to those OG gift guides because my playroom is full of those items!)
This is just what @LBee: and I have been discussing, but I would love to hear what y'all think about this!
-but I would propose them opening up to frequent posters to guest blog as a way to generate content if it's lacking, rather than a single person's opinion which, based on the number of people who agree with you, isn't sitting right with many of us who have been here for years. I appreciate your bravery in bringing up an uncomfortable topic to the group.
), and to the new blogger(s) who are contributing at a time where many have stepped away. It's so nice to see the site coming back to life. I'm sure there are quite a few bloggers who just don't write posts anymore due to the hiatus. They might come back, or new bloggers might be introduced. I think Judy's posts are filler for now, or she would have just been introduced as another new blogger. In fact, I think NOT introducing her as a new blogger is quite indicative that it is NOT necessarily "the way that HB is going to go". Why make her a "guest" vs a permanent fixture if that was the case?
