I think giving them the hand me downs are ok, but maybe add in something small from the registry or a gift card. I would probably give the hand me downs separately though, not as the actual "gift"...but you know this person best, so go with your own judgement

I would go get a gift, even if its a small one, if the items aren't new with tags. I'd give the used items separately.

I think only getting handme downs is a little weird.

Though one of my friends got two boppy pillows when she had her baby and she asked if it was okay if she gave me her extra one instead of returning hers since it was on my registery and it would be easier for her that way. But she doesn't have a receipt for it which is why she asked. I said that was fine, and took off the one that was on my registry.

I guess when in doubt ask?

@NaturallyCathy: I would take the $ you will spend on bath toys and get a gift card to add. I got SO much bath stuff I didn't register for it's ridic.

Def give used stuff separately.

I'd give used or anything without original tags separately, and get a gift or gift card. I'm a big gift card giver, or gift card and a small gift giver.

I'd give them --but id add a gift (or giftard) AND I'd say "hey, I through some stuff in there that we got for LO but never used an I thought you'd use them and didn't want then to go to waste". I'd put then in a separate bag.

@NaturallyCathy: I think an iTunes gift card is really random--I would be really confused if I got that at my shower. BRU allows you to send electronic gift cards--you could do that the morning of the shower, then bring the hand-me-downs wrapped (and maybe a print-out of the gift card to put in the card?).

@NaturallyCathy: do you have any stores near you? I can see if there are items on her registry available at those stores locally?

The iTunes gc is super random.

I got so much stuff at my registry that had no gift receipts and I was really annoyed, especially because a lot of it was stuff that I didn't register for and didn't want. I couldn't return it or exchange it then, so it ended up getting shoved in a closet to wait and see if we'd need it. Most of it is still in that closet, waiting to be donated. I think hand-me-downs are fine, but like PPs have said, I'd give a gift card as the main gift, then separately say, "Hey, I was going through LO's things and thought maybe you could use this stuff, too."

Honestly, I think a lot of it depends on the person and your relationship with them. I had a couple people give me gently used/new hand-me-downs as a gift (with some other random stuff like you have), and it didn't bother me one bit. One was my cousin who included some cute pajamas her daughter used, and another was a really close friend who included some cute dresses her daughter had (some used, some not). That being said, they know I like receiving clothes for DD (some people don't...), and they know I'm very much into Craigslisting, hand me downs, used stuff, etc.

If you do include the iTunes gift card, and you know they have apple products (iPhone or iPad), put a note on the gift card that says something along the lines of 'For baby apps' or something, so it doesn't appear to be so random

Honestly, if someone gifted me that, especially with the iTunes gift card, I would think it was all regifted stuff. I would give the book & puzzle with a gift card or cash. You could do an e-gift card or Amazon gift card. Plus, if that bath stuff is 1.5 years old, then won't it be expired by now? Especially the Desitin?
