I mean, I appreciate the gesture, but I want to be the one to pick out her Halloween costume. And it's not as simple as telling her that because she'll get dramatic on me and say how hurt her feelings are. *sigh* ...

Could you do a costume change halfway through Halloween? Or you could have your LO wear her costume all day, and then your costume for trick or treating?

I would probably just roll with it as long as it wasn't too offensive. They do stuff like this all the time and it's just easier (for me) to roll with it.
ETA: that cupcake costume is kind of adorable! 
But I get wanting to pick it yourself.

It wasn't a Halloween costume, but my MIL bought DS a "My First Christmas" outfit. I was a little peeved for the exact same reason. He just didn't wear it!

I would be upset only if it was something I didn't like. I would probably still buy a Halloween costume and let my child wear the other costume around the house for dress up.

I would be so upset. Especially if it was the first Halloween/Christmas/whatever other holiday outfit. I feel like the parents should be the ones to pick that out.

I would be wicked upset about this! There are only so many years that WE get to pick our children's costumes before they start deciding what they want to wear, so I'd be upset is my parents essentially took that away from me! They already got to do it for ME, they don't get to do it for MY children too!

i'd be a little taken aback. i'd put LO in the unsolicited costume for part of the day, and then change him into something i picked out. but if the person expects that LO wear that costume the whole day and was offended that i actually wanted to pick out something also, that would upset me.

Wardrobe malfunction--- oops, she melted chocolate all over her cupcake, guess I'll have to change her into this OTHER super cute costume I have. Good thing I got a few pictures first.

I would be annoyed too....My MIL decided to take it upon herself to "surprise me" with the flower girl dresses for MY wedding, so I am sensitive to that type of stuff lol!

This reminds me of the tricycle thread in a way. If be annoyed too. My mom bought outfits for dds first thanksgiving and Xmas but I didn't mind. They were pretty cute and since dd is a sept baby I didn't have the time when she was a newborn to bug outfits. It's weird to me that someone would purchase a Halloween costume though!
