We're repainting and Im 34 weeks pregnant. We have no voc paint and a respirator. It's only going to be 40 degrees but we'll open a window (we just can't open all of them for the best ventilation. I really want to help paint but I'm not sure if I should. It'd be kinda nice to send DS to grandmas and spend the day painting with DH. What would you do?

I let DH handle it and stayed out of the room.

We painted at several stages while I was pregnant. It was no voc so I didn't worry about it. I just stayed out of the area with DS.

I painted when I was pregnant; just had the window open and a fan in the doorway.

I did all the prep work - taping, taking off switch covers, etc. and DH did most of the actual painting.

With no-voc paint and decent ventilation I'd feel comfortable doing it. I painted furniture with windows closed (so cold!) at 30 weeks pregnant with no-voc enamel.

I'd paint, I'd be fine with it. I wouldn't be fine with sleeping or using the room for a few days though.

I painted the nursery when I was pregnant! About 34 weeks as well! I kept the windows and doors open and obviously didn't sleep in that room (wasn't our bedroom).

I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and we're painting and staining cabinets with the windows closed.

My dad is painting DS' s new room for me. But we also aren't going to live in that house until a few weeks after LO is here.

I don't see why not since you're taking precautions with ventilation.

My husband wouldn't let me even look in the room until days later even though we were using no voc paint. We have a few paint projects during my current pregnancy and he is going to do it while LO and I are out of town visiting family.

I would - it sounds like you're taking appropriate precautions and it's non VOC.

Yup! I would and I did. I painted the nursery when I was about 22 weeks and I painted the lounge when I was 37 weeks (darn nesting!). Last weekend, DH painted the dining room with our 8 month old baby in the room. I didn't worry about ventilation of the VOC levels (all emulsion is low VOC).

we are having the same debate but it is our kitchen and living room wall. We had some construction done and new drywall put on on the wall between, so now have to paint. My mom is going to do the painting as she has forbidden me from doing it as I am almost 8 weeks. She wont do the painting until it warms up (which might be never!!!) so that she can open all the windows!!

I painted while pregnant, go for it!

I would think more than anything its going to be hard on your back... Between bending, climbing ladders, to rolling. We did the basement and the nursery while i was pregnant and it killed my back.

I helped paint the nursery with no VOC paint - I'd say go for it, if you feel up to it!

First child, I did it. Second child, I let DH do it. I guess it depends on if you have your first child with you and if you have the energy to help out.

I wouldn't, but I hate to paint and would use it as an excuse to get out of it!

I painted both nurseries with DH around 30 - 32 weeks. I also helped him paint the living room at 39 weeks. No voc paint each time.
