As a marathon runner, I'm torn...I know the hours, months, and long long kilometers that go into training for a marathon - not to mention the cost for hotel, travel, registration, etc. I would be devastated if I was told a few days before that the race was cancelled.
However, looking at the devastation and pictures and knowing that I would be running through some of the hardest hit areas wouldn't feel right to me. Especially when so many people are still without power, food, water, shelter, etc.
I'm so torn! I always said that I don't know if I could visit the Dominican Republic when I know the suffering that is going on in Haiti only a few hundred Kms away on the same island. However, I travel to Jamaica frequently and there is certainly some sad circumstances there in parts of the country, too.
All in all, I'm glad I ran Chicago this year and don't have to make this tough decision!
