Would you hire a Man-ny?

I don't think I'd hire a nanny (or manny) unless they were personally recommended to me, so at that point, gender doesn't matter. If my best friend told me about a male nanny that was amazing, I would hire him.

I don't think it's an issue of gender and competence. Statistically pedophiles are dudes.

I'm totally shocked to hear how many people are adamantly against it! I would love to have a nanny that was a man, if it were the right person. I actually think it's too bad that more daycares and schools don't have male teachers, because I think it's so important for kids to have nurturing male role models.

Probably! Doubt DH would go for it. If they are qualified and I feel more competent than a female, why the hell not? They have some dudes that do late care at the daycare my son goes too and they are fab!

This thread reminds that Friends episode with Rachel and Ross. I laughed and laughed at that one.

For me, I guess it would depend. Really it's based on more of my thoughts about interactions for me, and not my future children! I've always been more comfortable with women (raised with sisters and a "girl's girl"). I would have to take into consideration whether I would still be working at home. While there is no concern about cheating in our relationship, I feel it's important to protect our marriage. I wouldn't want a big portion of my days to be spent with another man in my home.

I would! If he was qualified and had good references! I think I would judge a male and a felmale the exact same personally. When I was younger (8-9) and my brother and sister were 1 my mom would pay a guy college student that lived 3 houses down from us to babysit 3 times a week, and a girl college student that lived across the street 2 days a week.

Truthfully, and I know my mom would agree 100%, I think the guy was SO much better! He would actually play and entertain us. Versus the girl who would make sure we had food, and pop a movie in.
