I have a friend that is planning on home schooling her 2 children. She thinks that there are too many bad influences in the school system and that children don't learn that much every day.

I disagree with home schooling. I think that children learn more from school besides acedemics. They learn socialization and societal values. The other part of it is that I want my kids to know things that I don't know, and learn different viewpoints. My friend has a high school diploma, and has only taken a few community college classes, and quite frankly is a little dingy. I'm pretty sure that she is doing this so that her husband won't make her go back to work (she worked in retail). I know that they have a set cirriculum to follow, but I just do not agree with the decision. I had a graduate degree, and still think that I would never be qualified to teach my child all that they need to know. I guess shows like "re you smarter than a Fifth grader?" make this seem like a really bad idea!

I know this sounds judgy, but they live in a really good school district, and just don't seem to have good reasons for wanting to home school.
