I live in an apartment building and my across the hall neighbour has a toddler a couple months older than mine. We get along, and have periodically swapped watching the other's LO while we ran out to the grocery store or something. The girls love to play together, and I totally trust her.

So, we were talking the other night about how we have such a hard time making it to the gym (or anything really) now that our 18 month olds go to bed so early, since both our husbands work afternoons. And then we were like... would it be crazy to put our kids to bed, and have the neighbour babysit with a monitor and keys to our place from across the hall?

Keep in mind that the total square footage of our two apartments is like 1200 sq ft, so I'm sure lots of people have houses where they can get farther away than we could from baby's bedroom in our separate apartments. But something about that 3 feet of public space between our doors makes it feel like baby would be left alone...
