Absolutely! We've gotten the number of a few teachers. I figure they know how to get him to eat and sleep, so they're the ideal sitter.

We use an in-home daycare, and the helpers are all high school and college students enrolled in the ECE program. We've had two of the girls over to watch DD before, and it's been great! DD's comfortable with them because she knows them, and since we didn't go out until DD was in bed, they really just sat on the couch the whole night watching tv/doing homework. We haven't used them yet since we had DS, but I think we'll be asking one of them to come over for a night in December.

I would think if I trust them in daycare: I'd trust them in my home. I like in home better because she has to follow uour parenting rules rather than the laws of the daycare. But if she ever returned to the daycare it may be weird since she's been all in your personal realm & she would have to switch back to total professionalism.

A lot of my friends use their daycare teachers as babysitters. Sounds like a win-win to me.
