As long as we are living in a decent school system I don't intend to start private school so early. I don't see a big enough benefit at such a young age. I started private school in 6th grade. Hubs and I will probably do a yearly evaluation of how we feel our child is being challenged by the public school system and then switch to private if and when we feel it's appropriate. Some of the towns where we are considering living when we go home to Mass have such incredible public school systems that there likely wouldn't be a need to pay for private.

LO will go to public school. We picked our house because we love the schools here.

I looked at the prices of a private school nearby- $11,500 a year for 1st-6th grade and $12,500 for 7th-8th grade. Um, LO will probably attend public school!

our LOs will definitely be attending public school. the town I'm in - and the neighboring town we would like to settle in (where I grew up) are both good school systems.

What I'm most nervous about is high school! So many high schoolers these days doing drugs (beyond your typical marijuana) and drinking. It's scary!!

We're going Montessori for now. I have to say that your Montessori is cheap compared to most! We are debating public vs private for elementary. We want a good academic program with lots of diversity for our girls.

Depends what town we are living in when our LO starts school. If we're still in the town we are in now, then I will definitely be looking towards private school. If we go back to where I grew up, which is our 5 year goal, then she'll do public school. We'll be paying $1,500 a month for daycare, so even private school would be a savings! Ouch.

@Coco Bee: I don't know where you live but I'm jealous!

My ds has been in private school since 2nd grade, currently in 4th grade. The Montessori school here is free, but the waiting list is two years long. We pay about $3400 a year, the benefits are amazing. Ds has some anger issues (we divirced when he was 3, he witnessed some scary things), we just had s meeting with his teacher this past week about it. She told us if he was in public school they would put him in a behavorial class instead of trying to find the root issues and fixing it. We can't put him back in public, I'm thankful it isn't $10,000 a year.

Our primary school's that are closest to our house aren't the greatest. The middle school and high school are the best though. I've considered putting DS in private school until he reaches middle school but then it might be harder not knowing anyone when he enters public school. So we might request that he attends a public primary a few miles away but would still be in the district.

One of the reasons we bought the house we did is because the elementary, middle & high schools are all exemplary. the high school is ranked in the US News top HS's too. We nixed a few neighborhoods because of their poor performing public schools.

Not sure. DH went to private his entire life, I went public.

We'll be doing a Montessori pre-school, but we bought our house for its school district so baby Stroller will definitely be going to public elementary

We plan on homeschooling, but if we weren't I would strongly consider Montessori.

We plan on putting our kids in private school, probably all the way through high school.

Public, unless we're in area where there are no good public schools, like dallas, so I've heard...

We will probably do public. I was a public school teacher, so I know that there are some great public schools. Right now, we have great schools in our area. Depending on where we live when our kids are school age, I would consider private, but only if the public schools aren't up to par.

Probably opposite of most people, but I'd be more inclined to do private school when they're younger & public when they're older. I feel like elementary school is where you get your first impression about school and either develop a positive view about school and learning or a negative one. In middle school you learn the study skills/discipline that you use to be sucessful in the rest of your school years. Once they're in high school it's more a social issue than an academic one.

DH didn't grow up with much money & went to an expensive private school. He was the only black student and one of a few students that weren't from a wealthy family. He had a terrible time socially and was no further ahead academically than I was in my public school.

We are going to consider it. The public schools around us suck. I'd prefer to put her in public schools because we both went to public but...eh. We'll see when the time comes. I'm hoping we'll get a magnet school in our town. It's still under consideration and if we were to get it, it would be open by the time M goes to kindergarten.
