I would definitely need to do more research on the subject, but I don't think I would want to attempt it. From what little I know on the subject, it's just not as safe as a c-section would be for the baby, and the safety of my child is my top priority. As much as I'm scared of surgery and really do NOT want a c-section, I would much rather choose that if it's the safer route for my baby!

I wouldn't. I couldn't put my baby at risk.

My SIL had her daughter breech, but only cause she got to 10 cm and found her frank. They then did it really carefully. But my SIL says that if she knew in advance, she would have opted for a c section.

Eta: being breech usually ends in an episiotomy. I can definitely say that a c section is way more easier to recover from than an episiotomy.

I would have to do more research, but from what I know now I would try everything I could to get the baby to turn, and if it didn't I'd go for a planned c-section. I'd prefer that to attempting a vaginal, and then needing an emergency c-section.

Heck no. My daughter was breech, I was very glad my doctor's policy was c-section and I didn't have to make that decision.

Nope. My daughter was breech, and it turns out that she had the cord wrapped around her neck twice. Glad we went with c-section.

My personal decision would be to go for the c-section if my baby was breech.

However, my friend delivered her baby breech in March and had no complications from the delivery for her or the baby. I will say that her baby was on the small side though as she was only 35 weeks and she also had a very experienced Dr.

I think this is an issue I'd defer to my doctor on. If she felt that a breech vaginal delivery was less risky, then I'd be included to try. But I highly doubt she does! Hoping I don't have to find out

Also, there was a great episode of Call the Midwife that shows a breech birth.

C-section, hands down. I would not jeopardize the life of a baby to get a particular birth experience. Plus, I've had a c-section and the recovery was totally do-able.

When my baby was breech and I was getting close to term, I absolutely wanted a c-section if he did not turn in time. He was footling breech, and I just wasn't comfortable with the risks involved.

No question about it I would get a C-section, too much risk involved.

I actually did attempt a breech delivery, but my induction didn't work (I was only 36 weeks and had to deliver that week because they shared a placenta), so I ended up with a c-section. My doctor provided me with several medical journals discussing breech delivery. He had also delivered breech babies multiple times. Depending on the type of breech (I wouldn't do footling breech), I would have no issue trying again.

@grizz: I wouldn't attempt a footling breech either.

I would attempt it if my provider was knowledgable and experienced in breech birthing and thought I was a good candidate for it. As it was I underwent a successful ECV at 38-39 weeks anyway!

The article did not convince me to have a vaginal birth over c-section for a breech baby.

In fact after reading it, it made me more firm on the idea to have a c-section if my baby was breech. I would rather not risk my babies life over something that modern medicine has come up with to ensure me a safe delivery for my baby.

I would opt for a c-section. Like @tinyperson, my friend's baby was breach and after they delivered him they realized he wasn't turning because he had the cord wrapped around his neck and couldn't be head down. My friend was really relieved they opted for the c-section.

LO was a frank breech, no way in heck it'd ever be considered!

I will say, however, that my mother was joking with my L&D nurse about how she'd likely be an automatic c-section now--her first pregnancy was twins, with Twin B being a footling breech. She said she delivered the Twin A (48 hour back labor, no meds!) and then the OB reached up and pulled the second one down by his foot!

I would not attempt a breech delivery personally.

I had a breech baby and she was frank breech but in a strange position - more of like a pike sitting position. Anyway, in Canada I think they're more inclined to attempt to deliver a baby breech, but they recommend against it in terms of fetal safety. When they confirmed breech before the delivery (although we knew she was breech from 33 weeks and had an unsuccessful ECV) they gave us the choice but said it wasn't the recommended course of treatment. My water had broken close to 12 hours prior, I had had 0 contractions, and that baby was wedged into the same position she had been in for at least 6 weeks, so I was basically shouted "are you crazy!? let's do this c-section". there's no doubt in my mind we would both have died without modern medicine. If I had another breech baby I would do the same thing again.

I did not have a breech baby, but I did deliver abroad and I am really curious what the OB at the hospital and the midwives would have suggested. I can not handle stressful situations very well and I know that I would have increased stress if I tried to deliver vaginally, had complications and then needed an emergency c-section, as opposed to a scheduled c-section from the get go.
