This is getting really aggravating. For the past couple of weeks, LO has been doing this baffling thing while nursing. The longest he'll stay latched is a couple of minutes, during which he'll be actively drinking, and then he'll pop off and try to get back on. As soon as he gets back on he pops off again. Repeat over and over and over again.
There doesn't really seem to be any pattern as to why or when he does this. Sometimes it devolves into screaming, sometimes he just smiles and keeps doing it over and over. At first I worried my letdown was too slow for him now that he's getting bottles at daycare, or my supply was tanking, but often when he pops off, there's milk coming down my boob or getting all over his face. Which makes it even more frustrating. Sometimes it's in the evening when he hasn't napped since noon (he's a terrible napper at daycare) and other times it's first thing in the morning, so it's not even only when he's tired.
He's still got some residual stuff from the RSV he had a few weeks ago, and sometimes he's stuffy, so I'll suck his nose out, but even once he's not stuffed up, he'll still do this. He takes his pacifier just fine, so I don't think he's teething or has an ear infection -- in other words, anything that would cause him pain while sucking. He doesn't seem distracted, because he's not pulling off to look around at stuff, unless you count me, so maybe he's distracted by me? I've also tried different positions and nothing really works to fix it.
So basically I just shove him back on a ton of times hoping he'll get enough from a suck or two, and then I give up, not really knowing when he's had enough, because he will constantly try to get back on, but usually doesn't cry if I just stop offering altogether.
He's 4 months, could this be part of that whole weird period? Has anybody else experienced this? It's a real bummer and it's stressing me out, not knowing if he's ever getting enough from me.
