I know a lot of people here swear by the ZoLi. I need a new straw sippy cup for Liv. We were using Tommee Tippee ones, but they require a TON of work, even for me, to get the liquid out. She can drink out of a normal straw, so I dont think that much work should be necessary. Is the ZoLi straw the type they have to bite on? and is it difficult to get the drink out?

@LivsMama: Yeah, I don't understand those other straw cups where even I have a hard time. How is a baby supposed to use it?
I really liked it but it did start leaking for me. However, I asked other people on here and no one else seems to have this issue so I think I just put it in the dishwasher too much! -

our zoli still works great. the only downside is the straw is hard to clean, so i would only use it for water.

Zoli is great but if i had to buy one now i would get the lolacup. Easier to clean the straw.

We don't have the ZoLi but we started baby with a kids camelbak. He loves it. It is soft and he uses the same technique as breastfeeding for the most part. He hasn't had any problem with the bite.

We love our zoli sippy cups! It is all DD will use & we bought the straw cleaning brush because it is harder to clean than most

We used the Zoli Bot cup for a few months. It did start leaking on us too, but on the box it does say that it will leak if left upside down, or something like that. I ultimately threw it away because it was hard to clean and even though I just used it for water and washed it everyday, I found some mildew in the straw. I think the straw is just too thin and it's easy for build-up to occur there.
We have a Lollacup and I'm not thrilled with it... It leaks a ton and isn't that much easier to clean either. And it was $18...
Right now we're loving this Nuby straw cup I got for $3 at Buy Buy Baby.

@NYCaliMama: I agree about the Lollacup, too, which is why I didn't recommend it. I got sick of it after a while. Now I am re-using take and toss ones for when we need a straw cup, otherwise it's an open cup. The cheapest things work the best!

@brownie: did you intentionally start with the camelback or it just happened? My cousin in law's daughter just drinks from her camelback as well. Her daughter just picked it up the one day and drank from it!

@regberadaisy: I knew I would introduce it at some point but he surprised me when he started actually getting water from mine. That is when I bought him his own (at about 7 months).
My friends son is 3 and he uses one. As a transition to a real cup (ie learning to tip the cup up) she takes out the straw. It still works great. So we have focused on the camelbak more.

@Andrea: oh, I forgot we use Take and Toss straw (and sippies) too! For the straw ones, I just use disposable flexible straws everytime actually... even less nook and cranny cleaning, haha! But yes, I totally agree.... I actually don't mind that it's open so it teaches the kids how to handle liquids... somewhat, lol. Well, I just take it away when the baby isn't drinking (just playing with it), which is something we should do with cups anyway, I guess right? Lol
@regberadaisy: @brownie: I forgot, my DDs also take my camelback! My baby especially doesn't let me take a sip without giving some to her first. Lol, that's how it started too. I don't mind sharing with them, but this post reminds me they should just get kids' ones!
Another straw cup we like to use around here is the Foogo Thermos one. The stainless steel one is great for keeping liquids cold, like milk. My 4 year old still drinks from it when out and about. I give only water in the clear Foogo version to the 1 year old though since it's less heavy (and she doesn't like milk right now anyway). It's very easy to sip from like the Zoli was...

@NYCaliMama: they have kids ones that are easier to suck on and smaller. They are technically 3+. But we started our son with one at 7 months old. I do wish they would make them even smaller or with handles.

@regberadaisy: @brownie: @NYCaliMama: DD also loves the camelbak! It is surprisingly easy to get the water out, even with the adult version. But with the kiddie one, it is even easier.
@NYCaliMama: good know that I am not the only who reuses the take and toss! I always wonder if that is wrong, somehow? LOL. I have started to use disposable straws with it, too! I was thinking of getting the Fogo to keep milk cold but a few said that is it hard to clean. Have you found that to be the case?

@Andrea: Yeah I think all straw cups are a bit of a pain to clean, but for some reason, I don't mind it with the Foogo too much. I just use the nipple brushes from Dr. Brown's on all straw cups. It really keeps milk cold for a long time though which is the biggest perk... esp i you have it in the fridge for a while first.
I do wonder about the Take and Toss ones too. I do try to buy a new set every now and then, just since they are so cheap.

@NYCaliMama: Good to know on the Foogo. Maybe I'll try it one day! I just got back from Target and I bought a new set of T&T. They are labelled BPA free so I don't see how they could be worse than other cups? They are just cups and straws so I guess that's why they are cheap ....

I just got Zoli bot but LO just seems to chew on the straw instead of sucking since it's so small compared to a normal straw. Any ideas on how to help him learn how to use it?

@Clementine: my LO did the same thing at first. I took the straw, blew into it so that there was a little air pressure in the cup, then I took a tiny sip to fill the straw up with water, so when she got it in her mouth and bit on it, water came out. She cought on pretty quick how it worked after me doing that a few times.
