We took T (almost 4) to his first movie in the theatre yesterday - Zootopia! I actually loved it! He had a great time as well (popcorn, twizzlers and a date with mom and dad, what's not to love?!) All around great first movie experience!

We're thinking about taking my almost 3-year old to the movies for the first time to see it, but heard there are some scary parts? It's PG so not sure!

@JoJoGirl: I heard the same about scary parts. I won't take my 3yo to see it - she doesn't like anything remotely scary. A friend of ours took their kids (ranging from 3-8) and the 6 yo had nightmares that night (but she's like my daughter). I guess you have to know your kid.

We want to take our 4 year old to see it. One of his classmates saw it and found some parts to be scary but her parents thought it was cute!

There were a few relatively scary parts, like every Disney movie! My son doesn't get bothered by scary parts though.

We took my son (just turned 2) as his first movie! It was so cute. He did really well as long as we kept the popcorn flowing

My 3 yo has seen it twice now! Once with mom & dad and a second time with just dad now that her baby sister is here and we're trying to make sure she gets lots of attention. They play Judy Hops and Nick Wilde every night now!

@tinyperson: @winniebee: Yeah we should probably hold off. My kid is okay with Frozen but totally freaked out at the "scary" parts in Finding Nemo (the sharks), Tinkerbell (the rats), and yesterday could barely stomach Aladdin for the first time (the snake).

@JoJoGirl: I was going to mention that! If that's the case, stay away from Zootopia! It has a good ending on that front and is explainable, but I'm not sure if she's old enough to totally comprehend that yet?

@JoJoGirl: The big snow monster and the wolves chasing Sven and Anna are a little on the "scary" side in Frozen. My daughter particularly doesn't like the snow monster with his red laser-like eyes.

We took DS1 on opening night. It was his first movie in the theater. He loves loves loves animals so I figured it would be a good first go at it. He really enjoyed it and even said he wants to go again to see it. He did cover his eyes at a few parts but was fine.
Edit to add: He's 3 1/2.

We went with a friend and her family (they have 7 kids!). J sat in a different row with the kids, like a big boy.

@winniebee: @MamaG: I think maybe she's just so enamored with frozen, nothing could turn her away... but seeing something scary in a new movie will be harder. For some reason the snow monster at the end doesn't scare her!

We haven't seen it yet but I think we're going to take our 3 yo for his first movie! Coworker told me yesterday that it's a great movie!

@winniebee: Yeah, my daughter doesn't like bad guys. We tried watching Olive the Other Reindeer at Christmas, and she was terrified of the bad man (the angry mailman). She's a sensitive soul

We took E to Zootopia as her first movie :). She's 2 and a half and did great! I even jumped at one part, but I talked it through with her really quickly and she seemed fine with it. There were some other kids being carried out at various points, unhappy. It really is a matter of knowing your kid and how they take things.
She loves Frozen and could watch it constantly. She likes Inside Out up until the nightmare part, when she asks for it to be stopped.

We've seen it twice!! We went opening weekend and then back the next weekend. There were a couple of scenes that were scary for my LO, but nothing a snuggle with mama couldn't fix. Of course, since LO doesn't weigh enough to hold down the theater seat, she already was sitting in my lap anyway, which I'm sure helped! 
I personally think the clear, obvious message of the movie is FANTASTIC and I'm glad to see Disney tackle prejudice head on and address it in a way both children and adults can understand. Given our world today, it's a lesson that can't start too early or be heard too many times.
I also liked some of the funny tie-ins that (probably) only adults got. There were some good jokes.

@yoursilverlining: LOL that was our only glitch - T is only 30 lbs and we went to the Cinemagic in SOPO and he couldn't keep the seat down! I would totally see it again. It was the first kids movie in a long time that I wasn't bored with.

DH and I loved it and DD1 (3yo) liked it too. Any scary parts she was over quickly but she doesn't tend to stay upset at that kind of stuff.

DH and I have been pre-screening movies since for a while. We saw Zootopia a few weeks ago. We really liked it but we don’t think it’s for LO, he’s sensitive and there were some scary parts. I think it depends on the kid!
On a side not I thought it was really cute that Duke Weaselton (the weasel that was selling movie knock offs) was played by the same voice as Duke of Weselton in Frozen. I love Alan Tudyk though (Firefly).
Great movie though! I think we definitely get on Blu-ray.
