We started last night. I thought the chicken was really good (we cut it up and had it over the salad. But for some reason I confused the "save half chicken" for later in the week with saving half the meal for lunch so we accidentally ate a double portion.

Does the dinner (for 2 and a baby) leave enough for lunches? Or should I double the meals?

@blackbird: I always eat it for my lunch, and then M's lunch is hit or miss depending on the meal. And then on occasion there is something so good we eat it all at dinner time, like the carne asada nachos

@Boheme: okay great. I think most of the meals will leave enough for leftovers! I bought a little more steak today, though, just in case

I was very underwhelmed with tonight's tri tip. I should have purchased flank and marinated it. It was boring and had lots of gristle. I know better, dammit! DH liked the zucchini, which was great considering it's not a favorite and I liked the beans more than I expected to. Kind of a meh meal today

@blackbird: Ditto to all this!! The tritip was bland (we had to use A1 sauce on it), and the beans were bland too. The zucchini was good though, but how can you fail with roasted veggies?

@blackbird: @Mrs. High Heels: I am a day ahead of you guys because we had the bean meal yesterday. I thought it was bland too, but the salmon we had tonight (meal #2) was really good!

@MamaCate: oh good! E and I are having that tonight since DH has class. But I tbink I am going to broil the salmon with a little soy sauce and honey. I love it that way.

This week's meal plan didn't look great to me. I went back to the archives and am doing the July 4th plan. Made the Carnitas Tacos last night which the visiting in laws raved about.

Okay, I may need to jump on this because meal planning is awful in my house. I didn't go back and read all 6 pages, but I get the basic concept of Fresh 20. How long do the meals take to cook usually (aside from the pre-prep)?
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@MamaCate: Good to know - thanks!
@JoJoGirl: So far, the meals haven't taken longer than 20-30 min. They're all really quick. With yesterday's tritip - it baked in the oven for a total of 30 min, but in that time I was able to make the beans stovetop, and stick the zucchini in with the tritip for the last 15 min of bake time. So they make it really efficient to put a whole meal together!

@Mrs. High Heels: I made the beans sunday so all i did was pull them out and throw the steak and zucchini on the grill last night. Took 10 min, easily.

So I think I'm going to join y'all and purchase this too. DH and I are tired of my boring meat and veggie meals so we need to branch out some. I think I'm going to buy the year classic plan. Based on everyone comments I don't think it will increase our grocery bill any. Hopefully we like it!

What week are you all doing right now?
We're on September 12. Last night was Penne with Sweet Sausage & Spinach. It was good. We are not big sausage fans, so next time I will probably sub with ground beef. But it was tasty!
Tonight is Chicken Caprese Panini which I am really looking forward to!

@.twist.: We're doing that week too, although we are way behind. We did monday's meal on Tuesday - DH really liked the salad (we added a ton of the Romano cheese).
We had to baby-sit last minute last night, so we are doing the shrimp salad tonight. The only container of miso at my regular grocery store was huge and $13 so I have to stop by the Asian market today to get some.

@.twist.: We're on September 19th. I don't cook on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so tonight we're making the Tuesday meal (Salmon and Broccoli pasta). The monday meal (tritip and ranch beans) was really blah.
We were huge fans of the monday meal from Sept 12th - the chicken under a brick. It was so easy and good, and we had a lot of leftovers!

DH and I have been overall pleased with the meals from the sample week. We loved the scallion meatballs and Asian nachos. Last night was lamb burgers and potato salad and that was good too. The only one we didn't care for was the pesto mahi. It was bland. I went ahead and signed up for the yearly plan. I figure I can get enough recipes out of it to make the price worth it. I checked out next weeks menu and it looks good!

They are having a flash sale until Wednesday - 50% off the annual meal plan. Just an FYI if anyone is interested.
