@freckles: it is amazing what some people think is ok to say to other people! esp strangers. seriously.
@banddmommy: e hit 4 months yesterday and decided she would refuse to nap. maybe it was just being out of routine / having dad home, but i eventually had to nurse her down which i have never had to do for a nap! she did then sleep 7p-330a so who knows!? i'm prepared for a regression, since we definitely hit one with k at this stage...but hopefully optimistic that we'll avoid it.

@BandDmommy: M will be 4 months on Thursday. He has had really crappy naps for awhile, unless we are out running errands & such, then he sleeps great. Last night he decided to go to sleep @ 7:30pm (after another inconsolable freak out @ about 6:30pm), then woke to eat @ 11:30pm & 1:45am, but slept until 5:30am.

@BandDmommy: Is the 4 month regression a long-term thing or a one-week then back to normal?
Ethan's sleep was crap last week, longest stretch being 3 hours and then doing shorter stretches after. Saturday he was up at 6 when he's usually asleep till after 7.
Last night I got almost 5 hours again, so hoping its going back up from there!! (We had been at 5 fairly consistently 4 weeks ago). He is 4 months on Wednesday.
He actually napped a lot yesterday, but I was enjoying the snuggles so let him sleep on me. He also spit up a ton yesterday though, which isn't like him, so wondering if that is a side effect of the antibiotic he's on? Other than that he seemed fine. Do spit-up habits change at 4 months?

@BandDmommy: While overall our sleep isn't horrible, it's certainly regressed and I'm grumpy. She won't sleep in her crib (or any flat surface) at home, but will happily take 3 hour naps in her crib at daycare. And while I know I need to move her bedtime up, she protests from 8-10:00 each evening.
This too shall pass, and I will have a good sleeper again some day. I'm just not sure when.

@BandDmommy: J is 4 months tomorrow and sleep hasn't changed much since we moved him into the crib a few weeks ago (but he still doesn't sleep as well as he did in the rock'n'play )
We ditched the swaddle today to see how he does because he seems to be using his hands to self-soothe a bit during awake time. I'm a little nervous for nighttime without it!
@Freckles: I wasn't on HB (well, just lurking) until M was maybe 6 months old. I'll have to look back at those posts though. I keep saying that the easiest thing about having a second baby is that you truly know that everything is a phase. I'm sure reading my old posts would confirm that!
@Freckles: People are so crazy. My daughter was exclusively FF from 10 weeks on and is beautiful, smart and healthy. My son is exclusively breastfed and going strong at 17 weeks and is beautiful, smart and healthy. We are so lucky to have more than one great option for how we feed our babies!
@KayKay: @AngelicOne: @josina: @MamaG: I hope sleep improves for you guys (for us all!). Sleep regressions be gone!

@MamaG: K fights me from 6-8! I keep hearing she needs earlier bed time but she'd either fight it the whole time, or some nights just wake up around 7-8 like she took a nap!

H isn't yet 4 months but his sleep has gone to crap. Last night we didn't get a stretch longer than 2 hrs 45 mins It's been fairly consistently like that for the last few weeks. His naps have been all over, but he's started only falling asleep nursing nothing else works, aside from walks in the stroller. Any advice??
Bah I know this too shall pass, but it's hard! I want him to self-soothe; I have no idea how people just put their babies down and they fall asleep! Haha. H doesn't do "drowsy," just awake or asleep. He also tries to self soothe by sticking his fingers all the way in his mouth, triggers his gag reflex, and makes himself spit up. Heh. Good thing he's just the cutest and sweetest babe I know
I think he's also super tall!! He's been nursing like crazy the last few days. Interested to see his stats at his 4 mo appt!!
I didn't mean for this to be all complainy. Ha. It really is so fun seeing him develop and grow. And I love all the snuggles, even at 3am
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@Freckles: oh geez Louise. People need to realize that babies need to be fed, period. It's the mother's prerogative as to how that happens.
@josina: I'm not sure, but h has been spitting up more too! As I said, though, about half the time it's his own fault, haha. Poor boy.
pomegranate / 3045 posts
And now I'm feeling badly about how whiney my post was. Haha. Esp because he really is a wonderful, pretty easy-going baby. I'll just blame the sleep deprivation
honeydew / 7283 posts
@theotherstark: you're not complaining! This sleep stuff is so hard to figure out and we all just want what's best for our kids (and our sanity!)
We're having trouble because lately J is impossible to soothe except for nursing. I really don't want to nurse to sleep for naps, and he cries when he wakes up anyway. We end up having to put him down, walk away and let him cry. He usually stops after less than 5 minutes but I'll let him go up to 10 before getting him (that's only happened twice). We had to do the same thing with M and she turned into a super sleeper, so that makes me feel better. It's heartbreaking though
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@theotherstark: Don't feel bad! I think it's a given that all our babies are wonderful... But for some of us the lack of sleep really gets to us! I had a fairly good night last night but I don't even want to talk about it b/c I know it's not the norm. DH just text me saying she was fighting the bottle b/c she was tired, but after being put down was wide awake 20 min later... so I'm like great! No eating and no sleep!
We're thinking of doing sleep training between 4-4.5 months if she is still not consistent by then (which is really not even 2 weeks away). If she is a little better, like, 4-5 hr stretches better, then we might push back ST to 5 mo's...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: 5 min is awesome!! I think I haven't even given K the chance to work it out herself!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: It's so hard to walk away when he's already screaming before I get to the door I can say he's "fussing" all I want, but he's really crying. It seems to be the only way he'll fall asleep though! If I pick him up and try to rock him he still keeps crying.
I keep reminding myself that if he were hungry and crying I would still feed him, so if he's tired and crying I still have to let him sleep (Weissbluth is totally my sleep guru).
eggplant / 11861 posts
I'll add to this sleep train......night time we are good, 90% of the time I nurse her and lay her in pnp and if she is not out she is in a few minutes.....naps lately are a completely different story....she hasn't fell asleep on her own in crib or swing in FOREVER she had a few occasions of her passing out while on her mat, but for like 20mins.....I usually rock her in my arms for like 2 mins before I put her down in swing, I used to be able to do crib too, but lately she flips!
Swing doesn't have to even be on!
I don't think we are doing bad at all but all I can think of is when she goes to her sitter in Aug, I don't want to make bad habits!!! HUGE.KUDOS to you mama's back to work already, I have much time left but still feel the pressure! We are fighting the bottle battle, so I'm sticking to one thing at a time...

@theotherstark: don't feel bad that is why this group is here
@MrsF: you need to do what is best for you, I need a little more backbone with her crying send me some!

@snowjewelz: I think ST at 4 months is a good idea, maybe when the regression hits if it does???
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: I think we did some minor sleep training with K at about 4.5 months. Mostly bc she stopped going down easily at bedtime (naps she was at daycare so it wasn't my problem...ha!). She never cried for more than 5-10 minutes straight, and I think it worked in like 3 days or something. After that, she would go down easy...but then regressed again at maybe 6-7 months? I can't remember! But I know we had to do it again, and it was harder when she was older but still not as bad as I thought it would be. She didn't night wean until 8-9 months; I let those extinguish on their own.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@KayKay: that's good that at least you already did it once so you kinda know the drill! And I def am considering natural night weaning since I'm so concern about her eating enough all the time!
@FaithFertility: yeah I read that a lot of p choose to do it around regression time since the sleep is so bad! I have no ides if shr regressed, is regressing or will regress lol... Her sleep is so diff day to day!
honeydew / 7283 posts
I'm sure that part of our issue with falling asleep right now is that J is just so much more aware of his surroundings. As soon as I start carrying him up the stairs to nap he starts screaming - no matter how tired he is. Ugh.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: We haven't hit the 4 month regression yet. I'm scared!
@Freckles: I read a bunch of my old posts about Xander when Logan was first born, just to remind myself of what's normal. Apparently Logan started doing those longer stretches of sleep before Xander did! I figure I'll go back and read more when we run into some issues.
@josina: The sleep regression hits all babies differently. For some, it's terrible until they sleep train. For others, it's not so bad. With Xander, he did about a week of waking up an hour earlier than normal, but that was about it! Hoping the same for Logan!

Baby J seems to suddenly have a bad cold and is very congested Also we decided to try without the swaddle last night because he's in love with his hands. Also he's 4 months old today and sleep is getting harder. Very tired mama this morning.

Please say a prayer, we had work done to our AC handler and in the restoration they found mold behind the wall it is not a lot but I'm freaking out!!!!! It is being tested, I just pray it is not bad mold and the restoration will not be more than we expected!!! Ughhhhh!!!
He said due to the pan leaking, which is what we are getting fixed....
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@BandDmommy: hahaha!
Whenever K whines in the early morning, I realized it's usually gas too! She'd whine and twist around for a while and then "toot" (sometimes a few times!) and then back to sleep!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: I am so sorry! Poor little guy! I'll join you in the tired wagon.. Pls confused.. Haha... I WANT to help make her sleep better but it's so tough since I'm not even home all day!
@Trufflehunter: I was guessing you were either from down under or the UK since you said "mum" Weather must be nice there now! Some of us in the US are just getting over winter...
@FaithFertility: Oh no! I'm so glad they found it though! I'm sure it's hasn't been harmful to anyone though since it's behind the wall and in one area... I hope they test/fix this asap! Praying that it won't be a big deal at all!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: Thanks the only thing that the repair guy said was since it was apart of the AC handler it may be being blown into the house, which I doubt... but of course my mama bear came out and I just want to make sure G is ok!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: I know! I think whenever we hear mold it's freak out mode! At least you guys do spend time outside and at gma's house so she is not home 24/7... I hope they let you know soon so you don't have to be so worried!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@BandDmommy: Ethan does this too, he'll let out a quick cry and go back to sleep, I know now he just had to fart.
@MrsF: Aww, sorry he is sick! Colds are no fu n, Ethan is finally getting over his 4 weeks later.
@FaithFertility: Scary! Hopefully everything is OK as can be. Glad you found it while it was a small area!
I am home sick today (hopefully a quick bug - puking this morning, no fun) so am enjoying extra cuddles. Hopefully Ethan doesn't get it from me, but it makes me wonder if he had it Sunday when he was spitting up so much / extra tired.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: Ugh, that sucks! I'm always so afraid of mold. Hope everything turns out okay.
@josina: Sorry you're sick!! Hope it's short-lived.

@josina: Oh no feel better soon! Make sure you up your fluids when you are able to!!!!
@FaithFertility: oh no I hope it's a quick fix!
Ryan isn't 4 months for another 2 weeks and I don't think we've hit any regression yet. He's been sleeping roughly 8-6ish with one wake up (usually around 2/3). He used to sleep until 6:30 or even 7 and lately has been wanting to get up for the day at like 545!! I can sometimes get him back down but days like today....nope. Naps are still all over the place. Usually 45 minutes in his rock and play but he'll sleep well in the carseat if we are in the car or running errands (or like today fell asleep on the way home from dropping brother off at preschool and is still sleeping 1.5 hrs later). Randomly we will get a long nap at home but it's pretty rare. Tyler definitely had a regression around 4 months with night sleep that lasted a few weeks (I want to say it started a week or so before 4 months). At that time he was waking once a night and then started getting up every 2-3 again. So, we transitioned him to the crib and then swaddle weaned him since he had learned to roll anyways. We did some gentle sleep training because bed time got to be really difficult (he would fall asleep and wake every 15 mints) but he never cried for more than 5-10 minutes. It was also right around that time that he started taking only 30 minute naps (no matter what we tried - crib, swing, arms, stroller, car). That lasted about 6 weeks and I'm not looking forward to it!!!!
Overall Ryan's a really easy baby though. Spit up is annoying but his reflux pain seems under control. He's pretty chill and doesn't cry very often, takes a bottle well. He isn't rolling and I put him in the jumper at my moms house and he's definitely not ready for even sitting in that seat yet. I think I need to be more strict about tummy time! He definitely seems like such a baby still to me!
Someone asked about spit up...Per GI doc, spit up does peak around 4 months because they are sitting up a little more and a little more mobile. Starts to subside around 6 months (I HOPE!)
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@winniebee: So glad to hear Ryan's sleep is consistently better and that reflux is under control!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@winniebee: Glad to hear R is sleeping better! We are in the no nap camp as well, and I can't get her to nap on her own AT ALL anymore, I think she is too aware of her surroundings, talks to mobile...etc..lol
honeydew / 7283 posts
@FaithFertility: That's so stressful! I hope you get the best news possible from the testing!
@josina: Sorry that you're not feeling well and that E's cold lasted so long. You both need to be healthy together!
@winniebee: Great that R's sleep has improved so much since the early weeks and that his reflux is under control! We are covered in spit up over here. I'm so incredibly over it. Oh, and I'm with you on the catnaps. We almost never get more than 35 minutes. It makes it so hard to get out and do things for the older kid.

any moms of boys having a hard time finding a cute easter outfit? why are cute boy clothes so hard to find!?
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@whenoceansrise: I got a plaid pastel shirt from Gymboree. To wear with some khaki pants he has from old navy and a navy sweater from gap. Not super dressy but cute and matches older brother

@MrsF: I really can't wait for spit up to be done. I'm covered in it as is everything we own! I'm glad we held off on getting a new couch....
