@MamaG: we are still in the crib! In a sleep sack zippered backwards. However, we are going to move him to Tyler's room (and bed) before baby brother comes. I ordered the bed and bedding and my guess is we will make the transition in April. He is still an excellent sleeper and napped so I'm very nervous (also nervous that he wakes up earlier than ty and that will throw things). He still gets his pacifier so I'm thinking start with the bed and once he's in a good routine there, take the pacifier away. I wish we had ditched it a year ago!

Potty training is strange here. He goes quite a bit at school and does go at home too, but whenever it is not his idea he gets pissy about it. I'm not too worried about it, but also think he's shown most of the readiness signs so I'm just waiting for him to take more initiative at home. School doesn't do pull ups so it's diapers or undies!

@FaithFertility: I can't believe it either! Though it's a good thing he sleeps funky because he's close to running out of room

@FaithFertility: I'm so jealous! We were supposed to do a wdw trip in December, but canceled since J would be so little. I don't think I'll be able to convince dh to go this year, but maybe next!

So K was feeling better yesterday afternoon so I thought we were through the worst. But woke up this morning again with a fever. Plus dh woke up with one, he went to urgent care and it's the flu. Hopefully me and J stay clear of it....

Plus J had his 4 month visit yesterday and is even tinier than K was. Since he's a boy that puts him in the 0%ile. She wants to increase his bottles and also add formula which I'm kinda upset about..... So basically not a great weekend.

@miss ariel: is it the same ped you had with k? seems funny that they are concerned since you obviously have the history of small LOs. or was he falling way off his curve? again, i'd look back at what K did in terms of staying on/dropping below her curve at least as a reference. R is basically the same size E was (or at 2m check-up at least) which means he's smaller % because of the boy charts, but the ped was like: meh, whatever, you're small.

hope the flu stays quarantined to just those 2!

i'm cautiously optimistic with how well the PT is going so far. i decided to start yesterday when we got home from preschool b/c why not? so started doing commando, diaper overnight, and commando all morning. so far so good! we'll try pants (no undies) tomorrow.

@KayKay: I was hoping the same since it is the same dr. But he's almost a pound less than K at 4 months and technically at 0.06%ile. I think it's more that he's so small. We have a weight check in 2 weeks so we'll see how it goes.

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@Miss Ariel: I'm sorry! Both of my boys were very small (I think Ty was 11 lbs and R 12 lbs at 4 months) but my doctors definitely understood my genetics and didn't put pressure on me. I did still feel some pressure but they were always supportive. Hang in there.

  9. Miss Ariel

    nectarine / 2210 posts

@winniebee: thank you! J was just over 10 lbs. K was almost 11 then.

@Miss Ariel: didn't your dr have some concerns about k too early on?

  11. Miss Ariel

    nectarine / 2210 posts

@MamaG: yes, she did and still does in a way. But K didn't hit the 0%ile till her 2 year check up, which is way we have a weight check for her at the end of the month. They did blood testing on her last summer or so and not surprisingly everything came back normal.

It doesn't help that due to dh's schedule he does most dr appointments. So he came home basically on the doctors "side"

@Miss Ariel: Oh that does sound like a crummy weekend The weight concerns must be so stressful for you! I hope everyone is feeling better soon!

@winniebee: I can't decide whether to move J to a bed before the baby comes or not. I'm guessing we'll hold off (we already have 2 cribs because we waited with M too). He sleeps really well and I'm just being a big wimp!

  16. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@MrsF: yeah I'm not super excited about switching Ryan, but we have to move him to Tyler's room anyways, so I figure might as well do it all at once. I think we'll do it over April vacation (though, his new dresser is being delivered this week)!

  17. MrsF

    honeydew / 7283 posts

@winniebee: Makes sense - and FWIW I was a huge wimp about it with M too and she had absolutely no problem. I should have moved her earlier and I'm probably making the same mistake twice

  18. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@MrsF: well.....T stopped naming altogether when we moved him to a bed....so I have reason to be worried LOL. That said, he never liked to sleep much. R loves his naps still (but as I mentioned still gets a pacifier for it, so I'm sure that's why he loves it)!

  19. MrsF

    honeydew / 7283 posts

@winniebee: There's always something for us to worry about, I guess. I'm protective of the naps though too!

  20. KayKay

    pear / 1961 posts

@winniebee: @mrsf: i wasn't too worried about switching with K, since we were moving and didn't have the crib ready the choice was either keep sleeping in the PNP or move to a bed! with E i was more worried bc she is such a little spitfire and had been sleeping so well. it went so much better than i expected!

BUT...but...here's the kicker! Potty training this weekend went awesome. She only had one accident between Friday afternoon and school drop-off on Monday, was dry for all her naps, and basically spent the whole weekend telling me when she "felt the pees/poops coming". Honestly, there were times I was busy with Ryan and she would come flying out of the bathroom yelling "I peed in the potty!" Daycare yesterday was a bit of a bummer, since she is more distracted and has to be escorted to the bathroom (not in their classroom), so there were a couple accidents en route, etc. All in good time. But the real double-edged sword is she also is apparently night-trained already -- meaning that she wakes me up 2x a night to take her to go potty. That's all great, but since R is sleeping through the night for awhile now, I'm super exhausted because of my 2yo!!!! Diapers are so much easier!

I know, I know, not a terrible problem to have. But I'm still going to complain about the lack of sleep!!

  21. FaithFertility

    eggplant / 11861 posts

@KayKay: Yep, same AJ STTN normally except for the past couple days he's learned to roll over and just ro all night long and then gets livid when he's on his belly but G will wake up a couple times a week having to potty a couple times each night exhausting for sure

  22. MrsF

    honeydew / 7283 posts

@KayKay: Ugh - that is terrible to have the littlest one STTN and another kid waking you up Glad PT is going well but still - not ok!

  23. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@KayKay: You lost me when you said your 3 month old is sleeping through the night.... Ty went through something similar when he potty trained. He woke up every single night for 8 months to pee at night! And R was still night waking at that point, so it was a real mess. Always something! Glad it is overall going well though.

  24. KayKay

    pear / 1961 posts

@winniebee: I know, right? I have done the same thing with each kid (well what I can control, clearly first kid gets way more attention than the others!) but the sleep has been totally different each time! Not complaining about this one though

  25. KayKay

Also, we will see how regressions go! Still waiting for the other shoe to drop!!!

  26. Miss Ariel

    nectarine / 2210 posts

@winniebee: who knows, maybe your next one will be your good sleeper!

  27. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@Miss Ariel: Ty was a very typical newborn sleeper - up every 2-3 hours and then was down to one waking by 3 months. He always woke early and never was very sleepy, but that was much more manageable than R! The good news is R is a way better sleeper as a toddler than T ever was. Trade offs!

@Miss Ariel: so hard not to feel bad, hang in there K has grown up beautifully after all! K2 is super short currently haha...

@KayKay: @FaithFertility: Oh man, isn't that the fun part, lol! I am surprised these kids actually wake up to go! And hooray for your babies STTN!

  32. KayKay

@mamag: ha. I seriously take no credit for it! If it were up to me, she'd still be in diapers 😝

@KayKay: Wow, awesome on the potty training! I'm actually thinking we should've tried more at 18 months when E was interested, he has zero interest now, if we notice him 'hiding' aka pooping, and ask if he wants to go potty it's a big NO. Sorry about the sleep though! So hard to call a win a win!

@snowjewelz: Thanks, everything is good here, been following along but rarely get to the computer to respond. E LOVES his little sister, probably too much. He's in daycare once a week and that is a fight now, he cries when he leaves the house and clings to dad at drop off.

To all the 2nd time mom's, how do you keep your toddler busy during the day when you have both kiddos?

  34. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@josina: I know. I hate being on HB on the phone! I only get on the comp when K1 is in daycare!

The one thing K1 can do herself for a long time is play doh. Worth the mess to me! I've been rotating toys so she spends more time on "new" stuff. She loves pretend play so if I'm nursing I play along verbally. Or I try my best with K2 wrapped up. If it's not extremely cold we go out; I wrap baby and cover with thick fleece plus my jacket. Worst case I bust out the iPad but only games not YouTube. YouTube is emergency last resort lol!

  35. FaithFertility

    eggplant / 11861 posts

    @josina: i second play doh
Also paints G LOVES to color and will still willingly sit in her high chair!!!!

Now that AJ is getting older he is more involved in what we she does! He will sit and watch her play blocks or watch her as he does tummy time!

We play outside a lot and he sits and observes on my lap or in stroller

We go out a lot on weekends
Target to browse...park but when he was younger she watched a few shows when need be so I could feed/nurse!
Now she begs to feed him and actually gave him a bottle a few days ago!

I feel like we are in a good spot now he isnt an infant now they interact but he still can't grab her things or choke on objects! I have a feeling in a few more months it will all change!

  36. FaithFertility

    eggplant / 11861 posts

@KayKay: now AJ rolls so sleep has been the pits for a few nights!

  37. Miss Ariel

    nectarine / 2210 posts

@josina: if by busy you mean entertaining herself while I look after J? Yeah that rarely happens. Although we did have a pretty awesome night where she was reading books to herself and I read to J on a blanket. But it also involved taking every single book off the shelf!

K definitely has her opinions and will tell me to put J in his bed or give him to dh. And there's been many a times where I've nursed him while holding her. So I'd say we're still working on it...

  38. josina

    pomegranate / 3973 posts

@snowjewelz: @FaithFertility: sounds like I need to get some playdough! I wish the weather would get nicer so we can at outside more, I did manage a walk with both last week when it was 60, but we're back in the 30's.
Ethan wants to feed Emma too, he pulls up his shirt and says I feed her? Lol.
@Miss Ariel: E will sit next to me too when I nurse, and then hes just watching TV, or sometimes playing games on the Kindle. Lol to the books, too bad it's not as fun for her to put them back on the shelf?

  39. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@josina: Basically R sat in the bouncy seat, swing, or laid on the floor while T went about his day! Painting, play dough, kinetic sand kept him focused when I needed quiet time. We went to the same activities, etc, and I just would wear R or he would sleep in the carseat. T also definitely got a ton of screen time when R was a baby

  40. KayKay

    pear / 1961 posts

@josina: basically what @winniebee: said. Luckily E was totally cool with baby-wearing (K and now R are not nearly as interested in it!), so I would wear her a lot when we went to K's activities. K was also still going to preschool 3 days/week, so that helped give her something to do! If E was napping or awake (on floor, in bouncer, whatever), K mostly did her normal things at home. If E needed to be fed, K would either play independently with something, come in the room and annoy me , or watch a show.

It's better this time around because K and E can play together. Except 70% of the time they need refereeing
