Do People Really Hate Quilts?

I got one quilt and I love it. The maker actually met with me before hand to discuss my taste and colours I'd like, and then sent me a couple photos of what she kind of planned to copy, and made the whole thing machine washable/dryable, and it's a fantastic size. We use it all the time for playing on the floor together. It's a dandelion on the front and pink/grey/white chevron on the back. Kinda like this:

I love the idea of them. I used to knit baby blankets for friends. Now that I've had three showers and more blankies than I know what to do with (including 3 beautiful quilts), my mind is changing. I have no idea what to do with all of these blankets once the baby is here.

@preggomeggo82: that's my fear and thought. I think of I'm the only one it will be fine, but if they get a lot then mine might end up in the back of a closet.

@wheres_c: his is next for quilting. I just let a friend borrow the foot and haven't gotten it back. I am new to machine quilting and didn't want to mess up his on my first try.

@Happygal: I don't sell because they are far from perfect. Most of it is only noticeable on really close inspection, but I know as a buyer it would bother me. I also know that if I calculated the time and money that went into a quilt it would be way more than a baby quilt should cost, imo.

@rawrasaur: It's really too bad because I understand and appreciate the love and attention that went into making these things, but I just don't know how many we will realistically use.

i love quilts! but i wouldn't make one for someone i didn't know well (i'm not a quilter) if i didn't know their style! we got one from my mom's friend and while it wasn't my style, i love that she made it for LO and we used it for play a lot! it's a decent size (not huge, but not tiny) so we can definitely use it for years to come!

@rawrasaur: I love your quilts! Do you have an etsy shop or sell them somewhere else?

@Mae: Totally agree that it's all about knowing the person's taste!

I feel guilty for not really using a quilt my great-aunt's quilting group made for my son, but he has a very modern Disney themed nursery (based around Tomorrowland, if you've been) - it's all shades of grey with pops of green, blue, and red, with rocket ships, chevron, astronaut Mickey, etc....and this quilt is neon yellow with jungle animals all over it.

My mom makes quilts. She's made SO many for us! super hero ones for the older boys, and a baby quilt for my LO. I LOVE THEM.

I do find them a little stiff, but I think that wears away after time.

@.twist.: Yes, it takes years to break in a quilt sometimes. There is nothing as comfortable as a 30+ year old quilt, I swear.

I love quilts! I was kind of sad I didn't get one at my baby shower, though I did get some beautiful knitted and crocheted blankets that we use all the time. If I have another LO, I just might buy one from Etsy myself. If anyone sells their quilts, I'd love to support HB mamas!

Beautiful quilts! My husband's grandmother quilts and has given DD two. She also has a couple afghans from his other grandmother. We LOVE them all. I have cried every time we receive one. It is so special to me because no one in my family makes (or puts that much thought or time) into gift giving. It truly means so much to me to receive handmade gifts that I will absolutely use and cherish for a lifetime.

While a quilt wouldn't be on my gift list, I would be so thrilled to receive a handmade one!!! Those are the most cherished gifts to me. Our neighbor who we barely talk to brought us a homemade crocheted blanket when LO was born and it's so special to me even though she's not family or a close friend. Just because she took the time to make it.

Your quilts are beautiful! Id love one!

Your quilts are beautiful! I especially love the tea party one - it always makes your IG pics pop!

I have never received a quilt, and having tried to make a simple fleece one myself before, I bow down to your skills! If someone took the time to make one, I'd be so appreciative! We received 4 crocheted baby blankets and try to use them, but they haven't been super practical in SoCal?

I do think that it would be nice if the person making any kind of gift thinks about the receiver's personal style and maybe colors?

@tysonja: @Sapphiresun: Those are SO gorgeous and modern!

I love quilts. My BFF is an AMAZING quilter, and I can't wait to see the things that she'll make for a future LO. Her wedding present for us is a gorgeous, colorful quilt for our queen-sized bed. I'm anxiously awaiting the day it's finished. She had me choose fabrics and colors I liked, and then chose the design herself.

I've recently gotten into it myself I hope people don't hate quilts because I have many people in mind that I'd love to make one for...maybe I should ask them about the colors and styles they like, first

I LOVE quilts!!! We use the ones that people made for my LOs all the time- mostly for floor play. The ones that we've gotten have been made out of soft, comfortable material and I love that.

I love quilts! Our good friend made LO a beautiful quilt that was perfect for floor play. My in-laws bought LO a fun colorful quilt from Hawaii that has the alphabet with a Hawaiian word theme (L has a lei and S has a surfe, etcr). And we have a quilt for her crib bedding that she started using when we converted it to a toddler bed. I wish I was talented/skilled enough to make quilts

I LOVE quilts! We got a bunch of knitted blankets though, and I was eh about them. I know they also take a lot of time to make. One is much too small, and the larger one is super duper heavy. Like C won't be able to use it till he's much older. And since the knitted ones have "holes", when he sits on it, he likes to stick his fingers and pull on them. I'm afraid it'll get damaged. So until I know what to do with it, it's draping the back of my glider....

I only like quilts if they are in colors/patterns/fabrics I enjoy. I've been given several quilts by my grandmothers that I will admit I don't like. They are very traditional in style, made with old scrap fabrics in colors I don't like (like one in pea green and brown).

I have very little closet space, so I prefer not to keep blankets of any kind that I know I won't display or use.

I have seen some quilts made with more modern fabrics and patterns that are beautiful in a boho way. I would love one of those.
