I need to be able to select multiple options, some combination of screaming for help, running away, trying to get the cat to "hunt" it and eventual smashing!

Generally, call DH and freak out, but sometimes try to convince our cat it looks tasty.

depends where it is, where i am, and what it looks like. I'm generally a squisher... if it isn't too big and i'm wearing shoes or there is something heavy to throw at it. But if it is really big or it is somewhere that would make it hard to squish then i get someone else (husband) to squish it

I scream for my DH and if he isn't home I have the dog kill it.

If DH is home, I scream for him. If he's not home, I set the house on fire and drive away. Just kidding, I pretend I never saw it and avoid that room at all costs.

I kill it. Awful I know. DH saves them. They scare me and we live in the desert.
honeydew / 7968 posts
I used to scream until hubby killed it, but with kids, I kill them now, since they are more scared than I am lol.

Not only do I kill it, I frequently leave the carcass as a warning to other spiders. They need to know that I don't tolerate that nonsense and swift as well as extreme actions will be taken (aka the life of the spider that would claim "wrong place wrong time" but really was just trying to climb into my bed to bite my ankles)

Nowadays I generally trap it and put it outside. BUT, in college we lived in a spider palace - they were everywhere! A lazy roommate would just put a cup over it and then walk away. Sometimes, if a new spider showed up next to a cup, we'd trap two together and they'd fight to the death.
...that was a strange time for us.

It depends on my mood. If I'm feeling benevolent, I capture and set it free outside. If I'm pissed or it startles me, I kill it.
So mostly, I kill them.

I sometimes ignore it, sometimes put it outside, and sometimes encourage the cat to hunt it. We have a very lazy cat so that usually ends up turning into ignoring or booting it out the door/window.

If DH is home: tell him to take care of it
If he is not I will either smash and kill it or trap it in a jar and release it outside

Spiders make me want to burn my house down and move.
There was one on the wall above my computer the other night. I threw one of my husbands shoes at it -- because ain't no way my shoe is touching the damn thing -- and not only did I miss, but the spider fell BEHIND MY COMPUTER and now I work with my feet curled up on my chair.

If my husband's home I scream for him to come take care of it, otherwise I gather up a gob of paper towels, screaming as I kill it! I have to stop being so dramatic about it though b/c I don't want M to react the same way

i will scream and get DH if he is home and awake. If not, and the spider is on the floor or somewhere that i feel it could crawl on me (i.e., anywhere but the ceiling), i will run away. If it is on the ceiling, I ignore and deny.

I usually make DH kill it (usually by throwing my shoe at him for that purpose), but if he's not available, some combination of trying to convince the cat or dogs to eat it, and squishing it with my shoe.

I definitely scream for DH to come and take care of the situation. I'm not even going to lie - that was definitely one of my motivations for wanting to get married! I hate spiders and will do everything in my power to avoid having to be the one to kill them.
nectarine / 2220 posts
Typically I just pick them up and dump them outside. DH is afraid of spiders, I am not.
However, we have black widows here. Those I kill, because I'm brave, not stupid. haha.

I chose that I have a panic attack and run away. Truth? I stand in another room where I can watch it to make sure I don''t lose it until someone can come rescue me.
I try not to scream with R around as I don't want her to freak out like me. However the other day one landed on my hand somehow while washing dishes. I screamed then! And promptly called my mum as it fell into a bowl of water. After talking me for about 15 min. I was able to use a ladle to put the (dead from drowning) spider into the sink, turn hot water on and for good measure in case it miraculously survived add vinegar and baking soda. please excuse that run on sentence.
Talk about pathetic! I wish I wasn't so afraid of them!

I ain't scared of no bugs!
Although those huge cockroaches (silverbugs?) are pretty gross.

@Mrs. Bee: Lucky! I am petrified of most bugs. Wonder how that happens.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
I voted "other". I vacuum the sucker up!
@Mrs. Bee: I feel like once bugs hit a certain weight class, then I cannot smash them. That's when I call in reinforcements.

No biggie to me, usually I wish them well outside of my house. If they are a good venemous specimen, I put them in a bottle for a good friend of mine to preserve and sell in his shop.
But really, this:

@MamaBehr: Haha love the response!
I smash them with the nearest thing I can find!

OMG the other day I was in the kitchen and I turned around an one was dangling right in front of my face. I freaked out, screamed, and then said to myself "dh isn't here. You just protect dd from this heinous creature. It's part of being a mom." Then I grabbed it with a paper towel. But normally I freak and make dh deal with it. Which is hilarious because he's actually more afraid of them than I am.

I have extreme arachnophobia so I generally freeze and scream. There was one time where I sat at my parents' place for 4 hours crying in the same spot until someone came home to kill it..
watermelon / 14206 posts
I ignore them and let them live. Unless it's on me, then it has to die.

I usually have DH capture and release it outside. If he's not home I will capture and release.

@Reese: hehehe, I like those! Although he's a creepy looking guy. That's exactly how my husband feels about spiders - they keep the other bugs at bay. We only really kill black widows. My feeling is they need to keep out of sight & I'm fine with them.

Sometimes I kill them (though it makes me feel bad). Sometimes I catch them and put them outside. And other times I leave them alone. DH and I aren't scared of spiders.
Growing up I was the spider killer for my mom and sisters...and I totally squished a few with my bare hands just to freak them out.
bananas / 9899 posts
I usually don't react at all.
Now, if I see a centipede I flip my crap lol.
