@PurplePumps: I don't think you're being too sensitive at all. It sounds like she was being intrusive...and she should've got the hint already!

@bluestriped bee: It may be mild OHSS but it should go away in a couple days. Congrats on the 7 frosties!
@FliegepilzHut: Good luck with your cycle!
@GreenThumb: Enjoy your trip
@jaguar: Congrats! Wishing you a great cycles

@FliegepilzHut: There are so many of us this cycle! I start stims in the morning, so am glad to have a group of women going through this at the same time. Good mix of fresh bees and FET bees this time around too.

@momazon: I love the thought of all cycling together! I think Thanksgiving-ish transfers sound pretty auspicious for all of us!!!
kiwi / 613 posts
@PurplePumps: It's hard for our family members and friends to know how to ask how we're doing or where we are in the process when the whole topic is just so sensitive and filled with emotion. We are open with our family about our fertility struggles, but sometimes the level of support they were trying to give (by asking questions and looking for updates) felt too intrusive. I've learned to set some boundaries to preserve my own sense of privacy, and they've been really respectful of that. Because it is clear that even simple, innocent questions and comments can hit us in the wrong way, if we are having a rough day or are at a difficult point in the cycle. So don't beat yourself up for being too sensitive-- infertility can shake you to your very core. Hopefully your SIL was just trying to show her support? It may be that she's the type of person who would give up, if the process turned out to be too difficult.

@jaguar: you are ahead of me by a couple of days! i really hope we both stim well this cycle- it'd be nice not to be a "poor responder" this time around! good luck!!
so many people going through this at the same time, it's so great to have this much support!!
@purplepumps: you're not being sensitive at all. unfortunately, i feel like so many people (even close friends and family) don't know the right things to say or the right questions to ask. i haven't even told my 2 best friends about the fact that i'm doing IVF b/c in the past, i've told them about my struggles (and cried my eyes out) and they'll tell me 5 minutes later about so and so being pregnant. it hurts SO much that people don't even try to empathize. i totally get it and i'm sorry you had to deal with that today. i can't even tell you how much i've distanced myself from people b/c i can't stand their comments and their insensitivity. probably not the best thing to do, but i'd rather protect myself. i'm dealing with secondary infertility (daughter was conceived after a year of trying on our own), but the questions/comments are worse to me this time around. when are you having your 2nd? doesn't your daughter deserve a sibling? what are you gonna do with your time when your daughter goes to school? it's such BS! it never ends...just know that they do not know just how difficult this journey is. they don't mean to be insensitive (hopefully!), but they won't know unless they've been thru it.
sorry for my rant

I had to read back up, but yeah... I'd be offended/upset by family comments like that too. I've given up being polite about my answers now, because we've been through too much this year already. If anyone asks me about why we haven't given Georgia a sibling yet, or when we're planning to.... I tell them.
People just don't GET it. They don't understand how a simple question can literally rip open the bandaid and hurt like crazy. You just do what you've gotta do to get by. And know you're not alone, even if it feels like it some days.
I'm on 200 of Puregon this cycle, and will add in 250 of Orgalutran next week.
So happy to have lots of cycling friends this time around. xx

@FliegepilzHut: Thanks. I actually responded with something along the lines of having lots and lots of sex with her brother ("trying")... I'd thought that image would be enough to steer the conversation away from that.
@momazon: I guess some just don't know how to ask, especially since we dont talk about it at all. Maybe she would be one to give up, she kind of wanted kids with her ex-h, but he didn't so she was like ok, no kids. So I guess she has no idea what it feels like to have always had that vision in your mind of having children.
@mama2em: I try to remember that no one is *trying* to be mean, but ... that doesn't stop me from wanting to go off on them!
@jaguar: I've debated just telling, but I feel like that would lead to more questions. I'm a private person and just want to keep it to myself. I've been struggling to decide if I should even tell my mother.

@PurplePumps: I'm sorry that SIL pushed you for information. I definitely think that when people haven't gone through this all before, they don't realize that it is such a sensitive subject. However, I would think she could see that you were uncomfortable and maybe a light bulb would have gone off… oh, maybe PurplePumps doesn't want to talk about this!
We have told very close friends and family, so now they actually know not to ask, but are very supportive when we offer information. I was actually surprised to learn that my SIL and BIL struggled (they don't have kids and I thought they just didn't want them) and that they went through a lot of the testing but decided against IVF.
Anyhow, you are definitely not being overly sensitive… this is one area where we all deserve to feel however we feel whenever we feel it! HUGS!!
@mrswin: @Mrs.Pinecone316: Thanks!
@FliegepilzHut:
@bluestriped bee: That is excellent!! I hope you are feeling better soon!! You have so much to look forward to next year. I'm really happy it went so well.
@jaguar: I'm so excited that you are starting again so soon! You have great strength for getting right back into everything after what you've been through recently. I really admire that!

@Shutterbug: Oh, good to know that it will go away when AF comes. 7 days away...
@jaguar: Happy jabbing!! LOL!
@PurplePumps: Ugh! I would be so annoyed if someone asked me if I gave up. Just from reading your response, I would probably say something nasty in reply. So annoying.

@GreenThumb: I dunno about strength... more like impatience, haha!
It feels so good to be DOING something!

@bluestriped bee: The majority of people who get OHSS, it a lot of bloating they notice first. Thats how it started with me. Good news is it gets worse if you get pregnant that cycle so because your doing a fet if it is that it will resolve shortly:) Congrats on 7 frosties that is amazing.
@PurplePumps: In my experience, some people were easy to talk to about going through IVF and others I will just never share the experience because they have said stupid comments before. I think your on to something though talking about your sex life with her brother, that may get her to stop asking
pomegranate / 3764 posts
How are you guys going? I'm jabbing away. Puregon is going fine... tomorrow I add in the Orgalutran. Bit nervous!
I have been watching IVF YouTube clips, so decided I might dip my feet in the water and record a couple of this journey too.

@jaguar: Doing well so far, am on day 4 of stims. I think I'm a day behind you? Had my monitoring appt this morning and they counted 11 little follicles, but nothing large enough to be worth measuring yet. I'll go in again in a couple of days. This will be my last fresh IVF cycle before moving on to try donor eggs, so I'm hoping for a strong response. We will see! Fingers crossed! Would love to see your YouTube clips if you feel comfortable sharing with us!
@mama2em: How are things going for you? I'm on the Microdose Lupron too (twice a day) -- are you struggling with any headaches at all? I'm hoping you'll get a much improved response this cycle-- it's great your RE is trying something different!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@momazon: Fingers crossed for you here!
@jaguar: How goes the YouTubing?
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@momazon: Wow, sounds like your follies are going to go REALLY well! I am expecting low numbers, like always.
Jabs going well here. The Puregon is easy, and I started the Orgalutran/Ganirelix this morning (ouch!). I go for bloods tomorrow, but probably won't know any results unless they need to adjust meds.
@FliegepilzHut: I feel like a bit of a dork, but I'm enjoying making little videos as we go along!

Hi ladies! @jaguar: @momazon: Glad to hear things are going well with everyone so far this cycle. Good work with the stims!!
AFM: I had my lining check this morning and I'm at 11.43 so good to go for next Friday. Estrogen patches are working their magic. I'm up to 4 every other day now. Just a couple more days of Lupron and then I switch to PIO on Sunday. No break from the needles .

hi ladies! glad to read all of your updates!
@momazon: hope your next monitoring appointment goes well! tomorrow is my first one and i'm a bit nervous. i'm on day 3 of stims today..everything is moving along pretty fast! i'm doing ok on the micro dose lupron- no headaches yet. are you hanging in there? i've heard it's a very common side effect...
grape / 91 posts
i'm sure this has been discussed before, but i was just curious... during an ivf cycle, do you ladies have the occasional glass of wine? my dh and i are big wine drinkers but we have significantly cut down for the past couple of months, and i will now have a glass here and there (none during the tww). wanted to hear your thoughts!
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@GreenThumb: Looking good!!!
@mama2em: I'm glad you're doing well so far. I'm not a huge drinker, but I don't think a glass or two would hurt things. Totally depends what you're comfy with. x
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@GreenThumb: OMG...the time is getting away from me! Next Friday really is the 21st, isn't it?! Yay! BTW-- do you know what they'll want my lining to measure the week before transfer?
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@mama2em: I don't have any opinion...but I think last time I waited until after ER to have a glass! Glad the Lupron is treating you well!
kiwi / 613 posts
@GreenThumb: Nice comfy lining so far! Good luck with the PIO! Those big needles look sooooo much worse than they are, don't they?
@mama2em: Good luck with your appointment tomorrow! You must be feeling excited and eager to see what's going on in there! my headaches haven't been bad this cycle- i think my acupuncture really helps with that. As to the wine, I'm not anti-wine during the cycle. I'm not much of a drinker lately though, so I don't know if I've had any during stims/pre-transfer during the last couple of cycles. I say raise a glass if it helps you chill out and stay relaxed!
@FliegepilzHut: What date did you say they've planned your transfer? I think I have my dates mixed up.
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@momazon: I'll have my monitoring appt. 11/21...and if everything looks good, we"ll transfer on the 26th!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@jaguar: Just watched your Day#3 video! Very cool...although I apparently have some mild post-traumatic stress related to my own injectables!
ETA: Thank you! It's coming right up, ready or not! FX you will have a great cycle!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@jaguar: The Puregon one! Agh...the clicks! Agh...the sympathetic jabbing pain! I was actually pretty tough injecting myself...but maybe it's about feeling like I'm in control? Oh well.
kiwi / 613 posts
@FliegepilzHut: Cool! I had the 21st penciled in my brain for you, haha! I'm just a few days too eager! Are you doing a big family thing for Thanksgiving? My mom is out of town this year so luckily I'm dodging the huge family gathering with all my cousins and all their new babies, etc. I think that would've been too much of a struggle during the TWW. Instead I'm cooking a huge dinner and hosting my siblings, who know all about our IVF. Much less potential for emotional craziness fueled by hormones!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@momazon: Yup, hopefully just a few days after! Are you anticipating ER the same week? Your holiday sounds great! We'll travel for our transfer, but then join family close to home for a big, celebratory meal! Not planning on seeing any babies, though.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@FliegepilzHut: I don't mind the jabbing to be honest... it's the unknown of how I'll respond to it that sends my body into cold/hot sweats!
kiwi / 613 posts
@FliegepilzHut: That sounds fun-- enjoy it! Depending on how I keep responding to stims, I'm thinking my retrieval will be this upcoming Sunday or Monday.
@jaguar: Nice videos! I've always wondered how those pens worked. I do the several vials of powders that you have to mix with solution (Bravelle and Menopur) - those pens look much simpler!
grape / 91 posts
@FliegepilzHut: @momazon: @jaguar: thanks for your thoughts ladies! i probably should have just cut out wine completely during this stim cycle, but i sometimes feel like depriving yourself of things that you love ends up stressing you out even more. everything in moderation i guess!
@jaguar: love your videos! last time, my dh was around the whole time to give me my shots, but this time, he's traveling so i had to learn how to jab myself. the first time i did it, it took me 20 minutes..i was so scared!!! but now it's totally fine i have to do 4 shots a day so i better be ok with it!
fingers crossed for everyone going through a fresh cycle/FET! what an exciting time and it's so great to be able to share stories with one another!
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@momazon: The pens are WAY easier! I had to do the powder stuff with my Lucrin last stim and it was so fiddly! The pens & ready to go syringes are way quicker.
@mama2em: You can totally do this! We're stronger than we think we are. My hubby would be SO scared giving me shots, haha.
I'm so relieved to have friends going through all this with me.
pear / 1986 posts
@FliegepilzHut: From what I know, I think they want the lining to be somewhere between 8 and 13-ish mm. I think lower than 6 is not likely to result in a good outcome and there is some debate over how thick is too thick.
@momazon: Thanks! Definitely true about the PIO. And DH does those so I don't even have to think about it. Hope everything keeps heading on right track for you.
@jaguar: I watched your videos - thanks so much for posting those! It is "fun" to feel like we are there with you.
@mama2em: Definitely wouldn't worry about a few glasses of wine. I think being relaxed is a good thing!!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Mrs.Pinecone316: Thanks!
@jaguar: You have to send me a link to your video! Nevermind. I see you posted it. I'll have to take a look.
@momazon: Crossing my fingers and toes for you over here, too!
@GreenThumb: Where do they usually want you lining at? I've never asked. They always said 'it looks good.' Haha.
@mama2em: I'm not a big drinker, either and I would probably have a glass. I follow the rule about everything being okay until you get the BFP. Mmmmm, a glass of Moscato sounds really good right now since AF just showed up. I have a bottle I think. Thanks for the reminder!
So AFM, AF showed up today. On scheduled after my ER two weeks ago. Oh, the stomach cramping went away after I last posted. Woohoo, no (mild) OHSS.
So I need to get my meds for my FET in January. Delestrogen, Estrace, Progesterone in Oil, Medrol
Any recommendations on substitutions I should ask for? I think the PIO is a shot? Should I ask for the vaginal cream instead?
kiwi / 613 posts
@bluestriped bee: The PIO and DelEstrogen are both shots that you have to do intramuscularly with the big needles in the bum. Do you do the PIO daily and the DelEs once every three days? That's all I had to do during my FET but your protocol might be different. The shots aren't bad if you can get your partner to inject you. Did you do IM triggers for your IUI and IVF cycles, I assume? They might not let you switch to another form of progesterone, but if they do, Endometrin is not too bad. It's much more expensive than the PIO, though. Estrace generic is cheap, you can get at WalMart for like $4 for 30 pills (it's much more at my local pharmacy.) I've never taken Medrol but am on the prednisolone Millipred which I think is pretty similar? No problems at all with it so far! Good luck!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@mama2em: Did you have a monitoring appointment coming up? Thinking of you!
@GreenThumb: Thanks! That makes sense...definitely helpful to know, though!
@bluestriped bee: Wow! 2 intramuscular injections???
