Oh my goodness! I was so looking forward to sleeping in a little and then going to the appointment at noon. BUT DH has a 9-10am meeting at work that he thinks is important for him to be at. In person. (We work at the same place completely opposite of home and the REs office so he can't come home to pick me up after and then go, that'd be like 2 hours). So...... guess I'm going into work in the morning for 2-3 hours. With no food, or water allowed in the morning......... ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Starving me is not going to be pleasant. At all.

@bloved: Awesome news about 9 fertilizing! I hope your transfer goes well next cycle. But, I know what you mean about all the waiting with IF...it's the worst
@momazon: So excited for you!
@purplepumps: Thinking of you today! I hope all goes well for you!
@sweetiepie: Yes, the PIO shots are the worst! I'm dreading starting them up again....yuck.

All done with the retrieval and having lunch now before going home. 12 eggs. I was expecting a few more, but I'll be happy if most are mature and fertilize. Anxious for tomorrow's report!

@PurplePumps: 12 is good! I had 13 and even with my crappy eggs/odds I still got my LO out of it
Rest up and can't wait for your fert report!

@SweetiePie: thanks! It's hard expect a really different outcome now after the last one where only 3 of 9 were mature and 2 fertilized.

@PurplePumps: Glad today went smoothly, and you got a nice result! Fingers crossed for a much better fertilization report this time! Good luck tomorrow!!!!

@PurplePumps: 12 sounds perfect! So glad everything went well and FX for a great fertilization report for you!!

@PurplePumps: Glad to hear the retrieval went fine. I'm hoping you get a great report tomorrow!

@PurplePumps: 12 is good! Fx they mature and fertilize!
Afm, bad news on my front (why am I even surprised anymore). Of the 9 from Monday, only 5 are left and they are looking "average at best" so they froze today at day 3. Dr was not available to talk today so hopefully will hear from her tomorrow but feeling totally disheartened.

@PurplePumps: 12 sounds great! fx for your report!
@bloved: I'm sorry they didn't have better news for you. "Average" doesn't seem so terrible, though... Lots of frozen day 3 embies have become healthy babies. Hope your doctor gives you more insights tomorrow.
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@bloved: I'm sorry for the glum news. Average can still pull through though!! I know it's really hard to be positive now, but I'll be cheering on your 5 embies!
persimmon / 1114 posts
@ms.line: @ms.line: @winter_wonder: thanks for the encouragement ladies. I am feeling slightly better about it now, and hopefully more so after talking to the doctor. I think it is was the "average at best" that got me (like, are they at the cusp of average or only-when-wearing-beer-goggles average?). But I do know that day 3 embryos can make perfect babies...I have one sleeping in the other room, and that is what I have to remember!

@bloved: I was very depressed after the re told me my blasts were early and therefore not likely to succeed. But my son was an early blast and low and behold I am 9 weeks pregnant with another early blast. There's only so much they can tell in the lab. Good luck!
honeydew / 7463 posts
@bloved: Sorry you are feeling discouraged but it's definitely not time to count yourself out. Glad the doc made you feel a little better. (And your beer goggles comment made me lol). Will be rooting for those embies!
I think a while back you had asked about PGD. You decided not to go that route, right? (Sorry I keep asking everyone questions that probably everyone else knows. Just trying to get caught up!)
persimmon / 1114 posts
@SweetiePie: we did decide against the testing. We were all committed, but on the Friday before the retrieval they remembered an additional 1700 fee they had not told us about! So it just became too expensive! Although part of me wishes we still had done it.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@bloved: That's so frustrating!
So this is random - I got a letter from my fertility clinic a couple months ago saying they have embryos being stored, what do I want to do with them. (I think because my RE moved his practice to another hospital).
Well, I ignored it because I'm like "oh this must be a generic letter or a mistake because we don't have any frozen embryos".
Well I got it again last week so I decided to call. Turns out they have the 6 "bad" embryos still frozen! It's not a big deal, just kind of annoying because now we have to go through the paperwork and process to destroy. Which should have already been done in the first place. And I already felt weird destroying them the first time even though they werent viable anyway. Totally illogical but I feel bad! So now have to do it "again".

My doctor changed things up on me again leaving me with more questions. This time she prescribed me Estrace to start taking 5 days after ER. From what I have read, people typically start it right after the ER though. And it seems to be a form of E2 which really confuses me! If levels are so high due to all the stimulation, why would I need to take more??

Oh well, not surprised at all. 3 of 12 fertilized. Probably be doing a day 3 transfer on Saturday if they even make it that far.
persimmon / 1114 posts
@PurplePumps: I'm sorry - I know that is not the news you were hoping for. But as I keep telling myself, it only takes one (and it does not even have to be a good looking one). Fingers crossed so tightly for you!!!
persimmon / 1114 posts
@SweetiePie: that is frustrating (and I feel like sloppy on their part). I am sorry you have to go through all of that again!
honeydew / 7463 posts
@PurplePumps: I'm so sorry, that has to be disappointing and frustrating. But as @bloved said, it only takes one. Of my 8 embryos PGD tested only 1 was good (and the doc was surprised I even had 1) and he's now a 9 month old sleeping in the next room. People beat the odds every day. Don't give up hope! Fingers crossed, love!

Anyone else's medical records a total beast? I just pulled my file out from my drawer to look for the paperwork to destroy the bad embies, and because of lost pregnancies, endless testing, and IVF it's gotta be like 3 lbs and 3 inches thick. Ridiculous. And depressing.
pear / 1986 posts
@PurplePumps: FX so hard that those embies keep growing for you! It only takes one!! Did you do ICSI?
@SweetiePie: Really sorry to hear that you have to think about those embryos again. We have one left that I don't think we are keeping (after three failed FETs with the "better" 7 from that cycle) and it makes me sad to think about.
And all the paperwork/records, yeah, I finally filed mine in one of those plastic file boxes with a handle !
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@GreenThumb: Yes, they did ICSI. I haven't got the full report of how many were even mature yet, but my guess is just those 3.
pear / 1986 posts
@PurplePumps: What did the RE suggest to increase egg quality this time around? Just a little bit different stim protocol or other things like supplements, acupuncture, etc?
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@GreenThumb: My first cycle was antagonist, with 4/16 or 18, cant remember, fertilized normally and all arresting by end of day 2. Started at 225iu Gonal. So second one we did lupron starting at 150iu Gonal and in the 3/9 that were mature. 2 made it to a day 3 xfer. since lupron seemed to have worked out better than antagonist, we did that again after 3 months of coq10. Decreased lupron once stims started and started at 200iu Gonal (which I disagree with and think should have stayed lower), but she said she wanted to start higher to retrieve a few more than 9 this time. So i guess no real change except for the coq and me actually being good with my vitamins.
ETA: Oh, I totally forgot! The major change was actually waiting a little longer before stimming (largest was 22 instead of 20), and a 38 hr retrieval instead of 36.
pear / 1986 posts
@PurplePumps: Wow, seems like you have tried a few different things, just sucks that the RE hasn't figured out to get you more quality eggs.
kiwi / 613 posts
@bloved: Fingers crossed that your average embies turn into beautiful babies for you! Your history gives you living proof of a successful three day!
@PurplePumps: Ugh, I'm so sorry about this news! I know it only takes one, but this is just such a blow after your last two cycles and all you've been through. Wishing you all the best luck with the three little ones!!
pomegranate / 3809 posts
3 still going on day 2. According to the nurse 2 look 'good', and 1 is 'fair'. I think I may just ask to transfer all 3 tomorrow...
persimmon / 1114 posts
@PurplePumps: 2 looking good is good news! Would your doctor be willing to transfer all 3?
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@bloved: I don't think so :-\ They want want to take the risk of multiples more than 2, especially for people over 35. I'll still ask to see what she says tomorrow.
persimmon / 1479 posts
@PurplePumps: I've been thinking about you today I'm glad to hear 2 look good!
pomegranate / 3809 posts
*sigh* one arrested last night and stopped developing. One was only 2 cell and highly fragmented (grade 2BC) and one was nice looking but only 3 cell (4AC). Not feeling very hopeful right now. She said it's still a maturity issue, only 4 of 12 were mature and the other option now could be to retrieve immature eggs and try to mature them in vitro.
persimmon / 1114 posts
@PurplePumps: I am so sorry to hear that. What does that mean in terms of your transfer; did they transfer the two remaining? Fx very tightly for you
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@bloved: Yep, they transferred both, though they said in reality, only one probably has a chance. I think if this one is a bust, I will start seeking out other consults and seeing what some other doctors say. This one seems to be running dry of suggestions on what we could do next.
persimmon / 1114 posts
Ok well fingers crossed these frosties decide to stick around. And I think there is nothing wrong with seeking a second (or more) opinion. Embarrassingly enough, I am on my 6th fertility doctor in 6 years (although, in my defense, twice my main RE has quit, so I have had to move on). This is a big deal and you want to be totally confident in who is helping you!!
