@pointeshoestutus - I'm so hoping for the best for you. Thanks for your advice. 6 blasts is FABULOUS!
Yesterday the nurse called and told me, apparently I hadn't signed any paper saying that they could donate abnormal embryos. She told me there were two girls and one boy -- all had trisomys. I'm sad. I wish we'd gotten started earlier. I wish I could've delivered two girls and a boy and had the family of four I've wished for. Oh well. I feel so blessed to have my baby girl.
Wishing you all the best for your babies-to-be. Sending love and baby dust.

@PointeShoesTutus: That's wonderful news! 6 is a very promising number. Everything crossed for you! xo

@MrsMed: glad you have some answers. I know it can be so hard playing the what-ifs. I've been with my husband for 13 years and wish I didn't put off babies for so long. I wish we would have started right after we got married so I feel you.

@MrsMed: I'm sorry you had to relive some of your pain. We had a similar situation in that our abnormal embryos were stored and we kept getting mail asking what we'd like to do with them. And we were like "didn't we already say this?" Fortunately they didn't try to charge us for it, but it was still frustrating to have to deal with it all again.
And I feel you on the wishing you could turn back time. I always wonder what might have made the difference for us.

Good luck and feel free to stick around if you need some support! There are lots of IF ladies you could chat with when you need it.

@libbylou @SweetiePie: Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!! Really. Really. You guys are so kind to just answer my questions as I jumped in the middle of your thread. I'll stay in touch. Now I'm considering the next move, whether it is an egg donor and I carry or an egg donor and gestational carrier, so I'll be around. And wishing the best for all of you. XO

@MrsMed: awww any time! We all threadjack every once in a while
I'm also waffling about a donor vs trying once more with my own vs just being done. It's so hard to make these big decisions! Good luck in your journey either way and definitely keep us updated!

just heard back from our clinic--our retrieval did not go as well as planned, and we were told not to hold out too much hope on any of them making it to freeze, but we had a couple make it to day 5 and day 6 for biopsy/freeze! Now we wait some more with fingers crossed, hoping for something to transfer before we officially move on to donor eggs!

  8. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@endymion4: Sorry it wasn't as great as you had hoped, but hoping one of the couple they were able to biopsy/freeze is your miracle baby! So about 2 more weeks for those results?

AFM - I am starting to lean (again) towards one more round. I'm starting to feel like a real idiot for continually saying "this is the last round". But DH wants it and he of course is saying "whatever you want I support" but that just makes me want to do it even more for him. Maybe he knows that and is doing a little reverse psychology Kidding! I know he really means it. I don't want him to always wonder if the odds would have been in our favor had we given the odds a chance.

Of course I'll be happy if it works, but I'm expecting for this to be a bit of a "told you so" situation and then closing the book on it.

@SweetiePie: embryologist said 2-3 weeks, so hoping to know where we're at before we ring in the new year. We are doing CCS testing and added some kind of high-res testing (what's a few hundred more?? :p)

and, yes on the one more round. We were only going to do one round of IVF and somehow morphed into maybe let's just do another round at a different clinic to maybe some donor eggs, but then THAT will be it.

I have a friend IRL who is doing a FET next week and she's feeling confused about what to transfer (we are at different clinics--at mine i think they're the ones who decide which looks best if we have any that test normal, but it sounds like she maybe has more of a choice at her clinic? we're not super close, so I didn't ask too many questions). She has the following:
    day 5
    3AA
    3BB
    5BB

    Day 6
    3AA
    6BB
    5BB

any thoughts for me to pass on to her? Thanks!

@endymion4 that is a tough call that honestly I would leave up to the RE. I had 2 4 or 5AA embryos that resulted in BFNs so I strongly believe that the grading is not THAT important and certainly doesn't predict pregnancy/baby. PGD is really the best way to predict an embryo's viability but it is expensive. I wouldn't put too much stock in the grading scheme at all. Just my two cents...

  12. endymion4

    apricot / 365 posts

@Mrs. Pajamas: Thanks! I will let her know. They did not do any genetic testing, I think because of finances

  13. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@endymion4: agree with Mrs Pajamas. My embryos are often "excellent" but still totally abnormal. I mean the grades must count for something but they definitely aren't the sole factor.

  14. endymion4

    apricot / 365 posts

@SweetiePie: thanks for your response! mine were excellent (and PGS tested) and nothing Hoping this more detailed (supposedly) testing gives us some insight (even if it's to say--your embryos are crap! there's the answer!).

If mine had worked, i'd at least feel like she should consider genetic testing

@endymion4: saying a prayer you get some good news! My clinic gives us no information on grading (I also haven't asked) so I have no advice for your friend. That would be a tough situation to be in though.

AFM, we got our results back today. Out of 6 blasts, two are chromosomally normal, carrier GIRLS!! I'm absolutely beside myself with joy.

@PointeShoesTutus: Oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! That is the best news, just made my weekend! Huge congrats, that's a great spot to be in. So you'll transfer in 2-3 weeks?

@pointeshoestutus amazing news!! Congrats to you!! My results did not include sex...though I would've declined. We are hardcore team green. Is that normal for pgs?

@SweetiePie: @endymion4: Thanks! I'm hoping for a transfer early next year now that we have insurance squared away.
@Mrs. Pajamas: My RE left a message just saying two normals. H & I wanted to know the sex so I emailed the PGD nurse to ask her. On our last round, I asked what the sex was of the one that was only a carrier, otherwise the RE didn't say anything. I think if you tell them you don't want to know, they won't tell you. If we had one of each, we were going to let the embryologist decide which one to implant first (and the find out when we knew the pregnancy had stuck). @LibbyLou: So exciting! You're in the home stretch now. Do you have a tentative start date for stims?

  21. LibbyLou

    kiwi / 739 posts

@PointeShoesTutus: How exciting for you! We may be close to transfer buddies if all goes well for me. My RE does batch retrevials and transfers during certain months so I know the former will have to happen the week of the 16th. As of now I'm scheduled to start STIMS on the 5th.

@PointeShoesTutus: Yay on your normal girls!!! What a relief!

afm - do any of you need any estrogen patches? I think that I have a ton at home that could be donated and will check the expiration dates tonight. I believe that I have minivel and vivelle, but not sure how much of each. Let me know and then I can contact you for mailing.

has anyone ever done depot lupron before a transfer? IF we have a normal, we will need to do one month of depot lupron before we transfer. there was some vague mention of it being expensive and having uncomfortable side effects (yay! :p), so just curious!

  24. NorthStar

    pear / 1881 posts

@endymion4: I've only done the lupron 2 week kit before my fresh cycles and again before my frozen transfer. Is that the same??

  25. endymion4

    apricot / 365 posts

@NorthStar: no, i don't think that's the same. I had microdose lupron before my retrieval, and I don't think i had any side effects from that in particular because it's such a low dose. That microdose lupron isn't the same (I asked because we had an entire vial left and I didn't know whether it was worth hanging on to or passing on. we were able to pass it along to someone else to use). This is something that is for a month (some people do it for 2 months) prior to transfer.

Question for the veterans who have a kid(s)...today at my OB appt I saw a new doctor who mentioned all kinds of extra screenings and "checks" she was recommending because of IVF and especially ICSI. Included was a fetal heart echo at 22 weeks (in addition to the anatomy scan) and check on heartbeat 2 times/week in last several weeks. I never heard this from other IVF friends' pregnancies or in my pregnancy with DD. Anyone had this/heard this from their OB? It seems like overkill to me.

@Mrs. Pajamas: I am a lurker, but have 2 Ivf babies. My ob practice did not make me do this with my first, but did with my second. Honestly, I found it annoying (it could only be done during the work day) and felt like it made more worry, not less. I've said to my husband that if we were to have a third (I wish) I would want to switch practices because I found all the extra monitoring frustrating (although i am a teacher so it was extremely hard for me to take off- if I had a more flexible job I may not have cared so much).

    Wishing you lots of luck!

    pear / 1881 posts

@Mrs. Pajamas: I'm 31 weeks pregnant and my OB has not done anything extra because of IVF (we did not to ICSI). It does seem like a bit much just because of IVF.

@Mrs. Pajamas: I am a lurker and have a DD from IVF in 2014. My OB treated all IVF pregnancies as high risk. I had the extra ultrasound at 22 weeks and one at 30 weeks to check the placenta. I was told that these additional procedures were current recommendations for IVF pregnancies. I didn't have the extra checks at the end but was seeing the doctor once a week at that point anyway

@PointeShoesTutus: That is wonderful news!! Congrats!!
@LibbyLou: Wishing you all the best on your cycle!!
@Mrs. Pajamas: I'll be getting all that, but the reasoning for me is the twins. It was never mentioned because of the IVF or ICSI that we had. I'm guessing it's just based on your OB and what your practice is comfortable with.

missed a call this am from my nurse that we are "good to schedule a date," so i'm assuming we had a normal and we need to schedule a transfer date?? But i can't get a hold of her so I don't know anything about it--grade, do we have 1 or 2, etc. i hope she calls me back and hoping that they're not closed the rest of the week for the holidays so i can get a hold of her at some point!! Besides my generally not having enough patience to wait to hear from her, since we're not local to that clinic, we'd need to block days on hubby's work schedule, book flights, places to stay, etc for a transfer

@Mrs. Pajamas: lurker here! I haven't done IVF but have seen many successful IVF pregnancies. Apparently there was a study that came out about a (very slightly) higher rate of babies with cardiac issues who were born from IVF, so that's why I think it's common to do extra heart scans now!

  36. endymion4

@SweetiePie: i did, and we do have "normals" to work with! interested to see what the dr says in our regroup given that he said we'd be lucky to get 1. we had 4 normals on our local clinic cycle, too (we're now at a new clinic) and nothing from those, so i'm wondering if he things it could be something gone wrong with me carrying a pregnancy? I know he doesn't believe in immunological stuff, but i'm wondering if we should go somewhere and get that work up pre-transfer given that we're not doing this again

    @Mrs. Pajamas: hi!
I still don't feel like doing it again. DH still wants to but I think he is beginning to really understand that I would be doing it sort of reluctantly. I think we're probably done. But I'm not saying for sure until another month or two has passed.

@Mrs. Pajamas: another retreival, try the same, hope for the better outcome like the fist 2 times. Im on cd32 with no ovulation yet, so looks like my husbands two week trip won't get in the way of starting in feb after all... if the cycle even ends by feb...

@PurplePumps: hope things start moving along soon!!

I had a phone call with our new dr yesterday. He is pretty much confused by our case (so much for traveling out of state to find someone to give us more definitive answers :p). the couple embryos we did get are great looking (we did genetic testing AND some high-res testing on top of it) and there's nothing he can see wrong in my uterus, so he doesn't know why it's not working for us. His shot in the dark estimate for us was 40-50% vs 70% with a gestational carrier. We have embryos for 2 tries. So, we can either try once this spring and if it doesn't work, try again and move on with life. OR we can try once this spring and then move on to a GC if it doesn't work (if we can figure out a way to swing that much $$$$$--we are completely OOP). OR, we can go straight to a GC so we have 2 tries if the first doesn't take.
