Betas are looking good! More than doubled since Wednesday! I go in on Monday for an ultrasound. Eeek!

Just got back from my 8 week appointment with my OB. Only bloodwork this time, as she said so often you can't see the heartbeat so she doesn't do sonograms before 12 weeks. She told me about genetic testing, and recommends it even though I'm 27 with no risk factors. She said it's non-invasive only blood work, and with the new test they can separate baby's DNA from mine, and can also tell me the gender. My insurance covers it, but I want to do more research first. I also learned that medical doctors don't deliver babies if it's a normal delivery. Pretty bummed about that.

@dc yoga bee: Weird, my midwife told me that the 1st trimester genetic screening is both blood work and an ultrasound for measurements! Maybe every practice does it differently too.

I am also very low risk, and 26, I'm not quite sure what we are going to decide to do.....I haven't called my insurance to see if its covered yet though.

@dc yoga bee: What did she mean that medical doctors don't deliver the baby? Every birth I know of personally has had an OB in attendance (no friends/family have gone the midwife route). Did she explain that further because I have never heard of such a thing?!?

@mrs.kmm @lindsayinny. The no drinking thing is so hard! Not to imply I drank all the time lol but I'd have one most times I went out with friends or family. Today we had a big, boring work conference and everyone was going out for drinks after, but I made up an excuse (dinner with my in laws, can't be late!). We've got a family Halloween party next week but I told DH to order me a non alcoholic drink so I'll pretend. A bunch of friends want to do dinner and drinks (4 couples) 4 days before my first pg ob appointment, and I haven't figured out how to play that yet while being convincing! At only 5w2d, I'm feeling awfully bloated today

It was super fun when I was visiting relatives in western New York this past weekend and we went wine tasting for a day and I had to be the DD

I think we will have to tell family soon though, because hiding it from co-workers is becoming difficult. I try to pretend I feel fine, and now everyone wants to know why I'm not drinking coffee, and they are planning a "paint & pour" night out so that'll be hard to explain my way out of. I was very enthusiastic when we started planning it! I also work in a child related field, and lately clients have asked when I'm planning on having kids, and most of my co-workers have them and lately it's been "wait till you're pregnant..." aaahhh!

@Mrs.KMM: Yeah, if it's a normal delivery, the OB doesn't deliver the midwife does. I know in Atlanta, I'd never heard of this! If I switch practices, I'll have to deliver at the hospital 30-45min away womp womp womp.

@MrsBrewer: My insurance told me they cover it, but I just found something on their website that it's only covered for over 35 or high risk pregnancies. I will be calling back! It's $200 if it's not covered.

Ugh I hate it when it seems like my symptoms drop off. Usually every morning I feel really nauseous and this morning I feel perfectly fine. I wish my next ultrasound appointment was sooner.

@Eko: I'm right there with you. I went to bed late and ate late, so nausea didn't kick in until later this morning. My first ultrasound is Monday morning. I'm so nervous about this munchkin. I want everything to be okay. I hate that don't know yet.

@MrsBrewer: I think you are referring to the sequential screen, which calculates your risk based on NT measurements and bloodwork (hCG and PAPP-A levels). The test @dc yoga bee: is referring to is a diagnostic test that analyzes DNA found in the mom's blood. It is a newer test, offered in the last 3 years or so, mainly to high risk women or women who whose NT measurement or sequential screen risk assessment was concerning. There are a couple brands of the test...Harmony, Verifi, and Materniti21. Most report the results for trisomy 13, 18, 21 as a yes/no, with 98-99% accuracy.

I had the sequential screen last time and my results were 1/10,000, which eased my mind. This time I am getting Verifi. My insurance will cover it since I will be 37 at delivery. I will also do the NT scan if my insurance will pay for it because it can detect spina bifida and heart conditions, which the DNA tests cannot. At least that is my understanding of the whole thing!

@78h2o: that is the most comprehensive answer ever! Thanks for explaining it! Even though my insurance said they cover the DNA test, I'm pretty sure they don't for under 35. The OB said its $200 out of pocket, but I have a funny feeling I'll get a $1500 bill like others said happen to them with my insurance! I will pass and get the other test which is definitely covered.

So, I'm pretty sure this pregnancy is done. Slow rising HCG, still only a gestational sac at 6w5d (though it's growing, putting me in limbo), too much red bleeding, no pregnancy symptoms. Doctor thought ectopic for a scary 18 hours, but now shifted back to an unconfirmed blighted ovum.

Discovered the bleeding at work AND got a ob/gyn call at work suspecting ectopic, so I had to leave unexpectedly twice and take 2.5 days off work in the middle of parent-teacher conference week. So about half of my school staff knows, unavoidably. Maybe it's for the best, so they can be kind. DH is very sad and very quiet. Prayers appreciated.

Also, thanks for all your support and kind words this week, I've appreciated being a part of this group even though it was only for a few short weeks.

@dc yoga bee: Interesting! I don't know that I'd be a huge fan of that just because a normal birth can still have something go unexpectedly wrong (why I could never trust going the home birth route or anything). But I guess they wouldn't do it if they had had issues with it.

The hospital my OB delivers at is 25-30 minutes away from my house and 25-30 minutes from his office (with no traffic). Hope I don't go into labor during Atlanta's rush hour!

@cascademom: and @Eko: right there with you ladies! I still have minimal symptoms - just bloating and gas really. No morning sickness whatsoever. And I still have a little over a week until my appointment!

My m/s has hit in full force the last couple days. It isn't awful (no throwing up, just nausea), but it's all day long. I didn't have m/s with my son's pregnancy (or the m/c), so it's new for me. It's really reassuring for me, though, so I'm happy to put up with it. Also starting to get bigger boobs! T-9 days to ultrasound!

@DesertDreams88: so sorry, I am thinking of you.

I have my first u/s tomorrow at 4. Excited and nervous, and hoping that everything is ok in there. I had some spotting yesterday morning and thursday morning (very faint, only once during the day), so that is a bit scary, since I never had that with LO1.

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@Jess1483: that does sound reassuring! I haven't had too much m/s and either it's a bad sign or I am a lucky lady. Sort of wish I did.

@hilsy85: good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

@Eko: I didn't have any with DS. And it's still early. Every pregnancy is different. With my m/c, I had anti-symptoms.

I have been M.I.A for a lot of reasons. I started spotting shortly after I posted here and it freaked me out so I stepped back. My ob brought me in immediately and did the betas and it didnt double so I was so stressed and devastated.when she did the ultrasound it was just a sac and really early so she said we should just waot and see sonce there really wasnt anything she could do. I cont8nued spotting bright red and brown and trying not to stress out and just pray. The next week I came in there was something there. We saw a flicker of a hearbeat and my Ob was hopeful saying to come in the next week to see if baby continues to grow. Still spotting. Right when I start to feel confident in the pregnancy I start spotting again. It was just messing with my mind. And ms kicked in like crazy. So I was super hopeful. So this past Thursday was the day to me to tell me if baby was growing on track or stopped growing. I went in and ob was happy to tell me baby looked good strong heartbeat and I was so relieved. She said I had a SCH and was pointing it out to me except when I looked at the spot she was showing me my heart skipped a beat because it didnt look like a blood clot. I looked away thinking holy shit did I see what I think I saw? Then my docotr said wait that isnt the sch the sch is located right here. That is a..oh that is another baby. Wtf?!?! So I went from freaking about the 1 baby to holy crap 2 babys. But the 2nd baby is a week behind. So I am being sent to a special ultrsound place and specialist to check and see if baby #2 is going to stick and thrive or vanish...either way that is my story for now. It has been an emotional rollercoaster I am still in complete shock and worried. Twins does run in my family but I truly never thought it would happen. Just so crazy.
