@SleepyMonkey: J is totally sleeping with me too. I go by that you can't mess them up in the first three months I hear you on the cold, J seems to finally be getting over her's.

@oliviaoblivia: so glad that it's working out for you with both your girls!

I've been handling daycare pick up on my own for the last couple of days. I think there's a little learning curve (like not to lug the carseat when your toddler likes to take his time to get to the car - using the stroller is so much easier) and then your ok.

@oliviaoblivia: If you could ask on Friday, that would be wonderful. I would be able to send a prescription. (Basically, I'd prescribe it to myself, which is what I did with E.)

Thank you ladies. I promised myself I wouldn't beat myself up about it this time. I even bought a small container of formula just in case. But I was *so hopeful* that I wouldn't have to use it.

@Pumuckl: He seems pretty content, but he's still pretty sleepy for most of the day. He nursed 16 times yesterday, and 19 the day before.

    @oliviaoblivia: i think....you might be supermom.

@Pumuckl: i really love it. I didnt experience this with #1 because i think i had ppd. The love has come much easier this time. She turns towards me when she is sleeping and somehow makes her way closer to me while she sleeps. And she sleeps for longer stretches. Its the best!

@Espion: dont be too hard on yourself. You are doing a wonderful job!!

    @Espion: sure thing!

@SleepyMonkey: I prefer Wondermama. There are hard moments, but overall it's easier than I thought it would be.

Finally can post on this thread! B is doing great so far and big sister is super excited about her finally being here. She has already had 7 poops in her short life. Hoping my milk comes in tomorrow - that's when the LC said I should expect it.

Since I'm behind the game from everyone I can't really advise much, but I've been keeping up with these posts for the most part.

@Espion: Oh sorry!! I hope you can get the domperidone that helped you last time. I have poor supply too... I know that probably doesn't make you feel better but at least you are not alone! A very similar thing happened with my first LO and I was only able to supplement till 3 months and was FF fully after that and he's okay so we aren't too worried.

@SleepyMonkey: I think co-sleeping has gotten a bad rap! Do what's right for your family. LO is almost 3 and once a week he co-sleeps with us... I love it! I know I will miss the days when he will want nothing to do with us so I'm just enjoying it now.

@namaste: Haha. But that's easy to fix! Just add a 2 after the first 1

@Radish: Welcome!! So glad to hear you and baby are doing well! Good luck with your milk coming in!

Funny side story about milk coming in. My hospital is really into breastfeeding and so when LO #2 needed food and I was in surgery or recovering and couldn't try breastfeeding the hospital staff was very tip toeing around the conversation with DH about giving LO formula.

A lot of nurses at the nursery and even a pedi on call came over to talk to DH and was like well we have to feed your baby and we know a lot of people like breastfeeding but given the situation is it okay to give him formula... DH said that they all seemed so sorry for him and that it felt like they were giving bad news asking if they could feed LO formula... DH of course said yeah give him formula! We are totally not against that. He swears that all the nurses and the pedi sighed in relief!

@Espion: oh wow, no wonder your nips are sore. Really sorry you're struggling this much. We average 6 feeds over here.

@Raindrop: Too funny on the FF at the hospital. What was your DH supposed to say: No let the kid starve?

@Radish: Glad to hear you're home and big sister is excited for baby to be there. B is still as excited 2.5 weeks in as he was on the first day. Hope it stays that way.

My aftercare midwife just left and J has gained just enough to be within WHO limits for weekly gain.

  9. oliviaoblivia

    pineapple / 12793 posts

@Radish: C is an overachiever in the poop department too. She had 15 meconium poops in three days. L didn't even poop until day three.

@Raindrop: so funny they were worried about formula, like your DH would prefer the baby be hungry then feed him formula. People get so nutty about FF/BF.

@Pumuckl: go J! We're still at around ten feeds a day, except on cluster feeding days (today) when she did 14. L didn't get down to six feeds until like ten months, that girl was always on my boob.

C is one month today. She's already more baby like than newborn like. She's moving out of some of her 0-3 month clothes already. It really is so fleeting. I love her more alert time and smiles, but I feel like she's so grown up already.

  10. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@oliviaoblivia: now you made me curious and I checked how many times B ate at that age and he was on about 6 feeds too. Those were a lot longer than J's though. I think he was on 6 feeds until we introduced solids.

@Pumuckl: I'm so jealous! I spend my entire day nursing.

  12. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@oliviaoblivia: Hugs she only eats between an hour and two hours a day. I am so so thankful for that. I wouldn't know how to otherwise go about our days though.

  13. oliviaoblivia

    pineapple / 12793 posts

@Pumuckl: OMG! That's amazing! There were days with L that I nursed for eight hours. I thought I was lucky with C only nursing 20 per session.

    @Pumuckl: @oliviaoblivia: Haha I know!

So I'm exclusively pumping, I did it with my first but this one seems to be harder (only getting like 20 ml - total from both breasts at each section). I have been only pumping for 4.5 days though (LO was already 2-3 days old). The doctors didn't want me to try till a day or so after surgery because all the fluid I lost ... which included anything that would be in my breast and of course I needed to recover.

Anyone have an advise on how to up supply? I just ordered a bottle of funugreek on amazon.

I'm actually okay with FF but we want to give it the old college try and we know any breast milk we can get in this little guy is better than nothing.

BTW - back reading this thread. Anyone want to be instragram friends? My name is r@inymels @=a

@Pumuckl: A is also down to six feeds a day. I'd gotten so used to cluster feeding so now I'm feeling a little unused lol

@oliviaoblivia: Happy one month to C!

A was a champ today after a little night of barely sleeping. She wasn't fussy, just awake but today she's back to her old daytime routine. I can't believe she's a month old already! I was able to get another 3.89 miles in this morning with my BFF! I'm so ready to add weights back into my routine. I did some Zumba-y things the other night and while I'm definitely not where I was, it was fun to get a workout in.

Does anyone else not have a one month check up for LO? We had a one week and two week check up, but I just realized our next one isn't until two months. Is that normal? I'm wondering if they just forgot to schedule it, it seems like such a long time!

Ughhh, H has gone from being an easy, sleepy newborn to... not that. He has so much gas, and makes SUCH a fuss about getting it out. I was up with him last night at midnight, 1:45, 2:30, 4:15, 5:45, and up for the day at 7:30. And he's been awake since then! Just sucking on his binkie and grunting, but geez kid, take it easy on mom!

@namaste: same to A! I'm so jealous you got exercise in! C is too young to go to the nursery at the gym so it's either walk or do Jillian at home. It's too cold to walk and I think Jillian is too hard for me post surgery. Blah. I am one with the sofa.

@keepcalmcarrie: sorry you had a rough night we have had a couple of those with C and they were immediately followed by a growth spurt and amazing sleep. Fingers crossed you get a great night tonight.

@HappyBaker: We have a one month. It was supposed to be today but the insurance hasn't put her information in the system yet so we're going next Friday.

@Raindrop: Thanks! Living in a sub tropical climate helps

@Pumuckl: I'm enjoying wearing her so that's keeping me happy.

@keepcalmcarrie: Ugh I'm so sorry! A was the same way the other night and it wasn't easy but sure enough, I think she was having tummy issues. Yesterday she had tons of poopy diapers and she slept like a champ last night. Hope H gets some relief!

@oliviaoblivia: If I lived up north, I would be a couch potato for sure. When it's cold, it's hard to move around! Jillian is way too intense for me right now lol ugh, I can just picture the lunges. Besides, you're already super mom right now so I think that's enough of a workout!

    @namaste: ex-er-cise? I don't know this word.

Anyone else's DH able to soothe the baby yet? So far only mama has the magic touch (i.e. "boobs") and it is a bit frustrating for him. He tries to give me a break, but H just wails.

  26. Radish

    nectarine / 2079 posts

B took a 2 oz bottle of breastmilk this morning! Well really more colostrum, because my milk is still working on coming in. So excited to start pumping and not be solely reliable for every single feed. We have our first ped appt today. It's also DHs last day off work since my mom will be here to help out.

I'm emotionally in such a different place this time than last. I'm way less anxious but way more emotional and having difficulty processing all the different feelings.

  27. keepcalmcarrie

    persimmon / 1096 posts

@Radish: I can totally relate. As a FTM with J I was totally in survival mode - he had a brief NICU stay, then I was doing a lot of research and just trying to figure things out. This time, things have been smooth sailing and I'm much more confident about newborn care - but I'm a lot more tired with a toddler to care for as well, and I still get emotional really easily.

  28. Raindrop

    grapefruit / 4731 posts

@HappyBaker: Gosh I don't remember either with my first... For this one we had a 1 day after the hopsital visit check with the newborn club (not his pedi) and we have a 2 week check up with the pedi. So we didn't have a one week.

    @SleepyMonkey: Cool! Thanks!

@keepcalmcarrie: Oh no. Poor momma! I hope he's gets better soon. *big hugs*

@Espion: Haha only my DH knows how to soothe our kids. It's bad he's always been *way* better than me at that type of stuff.

@Radish: Yay that's pretty good! Good luck at the pedi's appointment!

Nothing new with me... I'm just working on getting more breastmilk to come in. I read a ton of tips... That whole messaging your boobs really helps me also stopping and stopping the pump in the middle has helped me get more milk. I think my main problem though is that my milk is still very yellow which means my "real" milk hasn't come in yet. Which is why I'm still getting not a ton. Hopefully it will come in soon.

Sorry I've been MIA! I've been reading along, I swear. We came home on a Thurs & DH went back to work after the weekend, so I haven't had much free time, lol. He's really only home for a little while at night (and has been doing OT weekends). I nap when the girls do!

Having a lot of fun though. I know people "swear moms who enjoy the newborn period are liars" but I really do love it. The girls have been great - normal 2 year old stuff has been challenging (the attitude! The selective hearing! The dirty looks!) but she adores her newborn sister and always tells her, "don't worry baby charlotte, it's ok! I'll help you!" And tries to offer her Blankie or other favorite stuffed animals.

She's a peanut compared to her sister so I've been a little nervous about weight gain (3-4 oz/week where my older daughter gained 8-9 oz a week!!). But she does NOT have MCADD (stupid person miscommunicated results) and is only a carrier. I almost cried with relief.

Add me to the list of those not exercising. Haha. Not only is it cold here but we have about 4' of snow on the sidewalks so that's out. Expecting another several inches this week... I've never been so stir crazy before!!!

  30. oliviaoblivia

    pineapple / 12793 posts

@sorrycharlie: I like the newborn phase too.
I'm so relieved C is only a carrier.

@Espion: DH can soothe C as long as it's not near a meal time. She's a chill baby though. I talked with our pedi today, I'll wall you.

@Radish: I hope your hormones settle down soon. How is A doing with B? Love her name btw.!

@Raindrop: keep up the good milk work! How are you feeling?

C had her one month today. She's gained 2lbs 15oz since we left the hospital. Explains why her clothes are getting tight. And she had eczema so we have a script for a couple baby body ointments. Here I thought she was just a little scaly. Whoops.

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@sorrycharlie: add me to another that likes the newborn phase. This is new for me though, i had a rough time adjusting with #1. This time im enjoying the snuggles and the milk drunkness and everything!

Exercise. Hah! I havent done any sort of aerobic activity since 2012. I walked about 20 blocks today. Dh and i had a lunch date without baby and that was really nice. I also had a glass of wine and that was delicious!

@Raindrop: good job on the breastfeeding and pumping! Keep it up mama.

@keepcalmcarrie: oof. Hope its a short lived phase and just a growth spurt or something. I was talking to dh today about how J is an easy baby and i am kind of nervous i jinxed myself!

As for us, my left boob is still pissing me off. She just cant seem to get a good latch quickly and there is milk all over the place and i contort myself in weird positions. Sigh. It'll get better, i just have to be patient. I did have a similar problem with my first too. We also were able to get an appointment with a birthmark specialist next week, after being told that the first available was March 5. I don't think there are any actionable items right now but i would just like to get her advice and input.

  32. Radish

    nectarine / 2079 posts

@SleepyMonkey: I think that she is beautiful. I think the location and symmetry make it less distracting than other prominent ones I've seen before. If I were her mother I'd probably have similar feelings as you, though,

  36. sorrycharlie

    hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts

@SleepyMonkey: O had a raised one right next to her nipple about the size of a nickel. Like, super raised. And another raised one on her forehead that was a pencil eraser size. I was so self conscious for her. People always asked about the one on her head too which annoyed me. But the doctor said they would likely disappear by 5 years old - and I was like omg that's forever. But they started REALLY fading by a year and now the one on her head has been gone entirely for awhile, and the one on her chest is flat and barely colored. I was upset in the early days but grew used to them and even fond of them ha! I totally understand your feelings - but wanted to give you some hope!

  37. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@Radish: thank you. I think she is beautiful too. I sometimes feel so guilty for being sad about it because she is just perfect.

@sorrycharlie: thanks. This makes me feel better. I know a lot of them go away over time and i am hoping this one does too. Again, i feel guilty for that...like i shouldnt even care. I am actually nervous about how i am going to react when someone asks about it or says something stupid. What did you say when people asked?

  38. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@SleepyMonkey: J has a port-wine stain on her right side about an inch away from her nipple and it's pretty big about the size of a quarter. I'll have to talk to the pedi about it on her 1 month visit.

@sorrycharlie: glad to hear you're doing well. Definitely enjoying the newborn snuggles more this time but then I probably have the easiest baby on the block. Same thing about weight though. She gains ok but sooooo much slower than her brother.

@namaste: I haven't really exercised either but gone for walks. But currently we have quite a bit of snow so I've stayed at home.

  39. sorrycharlie

    hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts

@SleepyMonkey: I just said "it's a birthmark" or "its a hemangioma" if it was someone I felt like explaining more in depth to. One of my ILs actually had the nerve to say "oh, she can have that removed. What girl wants that on their nipple?" And I was so shocked I didn't know what to say. I was like "uh. It'll fade. And it's part of who she is" or something!

  40. Cupcake

    apricot / 495 posts

@SleepyMonkey: I missed the hemangioma chat. Henry has a decent sized one on his calf. It happens to be in a roll, so it looks like a big slice in his leg. The poor baby also has an umbilical hernia. My mom kept calling him damaged goods. I was getting so annoyed.
