November 2014 Mama's!!

How's everyone doing? I started going to prenatal yoga classes and they help a lot with some of my muscle symptoms like lower back pain and round ligament pain, plus I feel more relaxed afterwards.

Also, we are making progress on the nursery! We got all of the books moved downstairs, and some new to us bookcases, and now we just have to clear out the rest of the furniture in the room. We have a dresser that needs a fresh coat of paint, and then we are going to get an Ikea Kallax unit for a changing table. We decided on a yellow-and-aqua color scheme for our sea life nursery, and I think it's gonna be totally cute. I'm trying to decide on a rocker/recliner now. I really like this one http://www.costco.com/Jordan-Doodles-Ash-Swivel-Glider-Recliner.product.100085084.html but I'm worried that the fabric isn't really easy to clean and that it'll be gross and stained pretty quickly, so I'm considering getting a leather one instead. http://www.la-z-boy.com/Product/4087-7065/Calvin-Chaise-Recliner/ The advice I've gotten is to get a really nice recliner and not spend a lot on the other furniture, so I think that's our strategy - but I want something that will work nicely in our living room later. Has anyone else been researching furniture?

I think I'm finally feeling some definite movement! So exciting! We have our anatomy scan tomorrow, so I hope to have some news to share afterwards!

@Ms.Mermaid: I haven't really started on the nursery yet. It's still kind of a dumping ground for storage, especially since I cleaned out my classroom last week and brought tons of stuff home. It's definitely getting to be time to start thinking about it!

@Ms.Mermaid: I never thought to check Costco for a glider/recliner! I do like the one you posted although I'm hesitant to buy without trying it out first...

I'm due 11/16 and have my scan next Tuesday, 7/1!

@Ms.Mermaid: This is my first free week of the summer, and I spent it in crazy nesting-mode. I've taken all the clutter out of the actual nursery itself, and now just need to empty out the closet. My husband is going to spend the weekend installing some Ikea shelving/drawers in there, to make it as organized as possible for little baby clothes. I now need to find someone to come in and paint the mural on the wall. We need to decide on a crib/rocker/changing table still. Very exciting!!

Hi! We had a follow up ultrasound today because the one from a couple weeks he was too cramped to get any photos.. But we got some today! Little man is growing like a champ and is so cute! And he's definitely a boy. The photos don't lie!

Hello! Had a sono last week and it's a girl, yay!!! Am trying not to freak out b/c there is a small cyst on baby's brain. They are gonna sono again in 2 weeks and my doctor said they're pretty common and usually disappear, but yikes it sounds scary. Also I still have the UTI that they found at my first appt, so I am on my 3rd round of antibiotics for that, plus I have to take them for the remainder of this pregnancy so it doesn't turn into a kidney infection...which can result in pre-term labor and some other bad things. I feel like when it rains, it pours...my first pregnancy was so uneventful in comparison. But I'm keeping cool and praying hard and having lots of yogurt and cran juice and pills, haha. Hope you ladies are doing well!

@tororojo: Congrats on the girl! A cyst does sound scary, but if they're not overly concerned about it I wouldn't get to worked up.

Boo to the antibiotics. I can't imagine having one for that long, buy stock in probiotic yogurt!

@Ms.Mermaid: Prenatal yoga is the only thing that keeps me walking! I have a ton of SI and hip pain. I'm having to prioritize getting to a class about 3 times a week. It's that or a chiro, and yoga is a lot cheaper! Not easy to make the time, but I'm trying my best. Yoga is the best

Wow, there really are a lot of girls in this group!!! I have also been having low back/hip pain but it seems to be worse when I'm ij bed trying to sleep. I use all sorts of body pillows and sometimes they seem to help, other times not so much. Does anyone else spend a majority of their work day on their feet running around? I'm a nurse and after work the last few nights I've already started with the "cankles" and swollen feet lol

I had my anatomy scan today, and everything looked great. Heart rate was 155 and they got almost all the pictures they needed. I will have to go back for another quick one, which will make it my 6th ultrasound for this pregnancy! Hoooly.

So, I just missed a call from my doctor. Apparently she is sending me for more bloodwork, and to visit the perinatal clinic in town. I have no idea what that is.

I'm freaking out because in my mind there is something wrong with the baby and I have to go in to talk to someone.

I'm freaking out. Has anyone been to a perinatal clinic? What is it.

@Sophs Mama: oh no! Were you able to get in touch with your Dr to find out what is going on and why they are ordering all those extra tests/sending you to a specialist? I can't believe they would leave that on your voice mail, how horrible they should have just left you a message to call back ASAP that way they could be available to answer your questions. I'm sorry you're having to go through this, please keep us posted and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs

@katieleigh_82: I called this morning, and apparently my doctor isn't in today???! I'm hoping she goes in just to do her paperwork and will call me back. I have my phone on the loudest possible volume.

@Sophs Mama: That was me yesterday waiting to hear about our SUA diagnosis. I stepped out of the house for 15 seconds to take out the trash and freaked out that I missed the doctor's call-luckily I didn't. I did finally talk to him (and I see you finally talked to yours). This is *so* hard to be in limbo. So sorry, friend, and SO hopeful that your baby boy is absolutely perfectly healthy in every way. Take care of yourself.

Hey everyone. Like chicalgobee said, I did finally talk to my doctor. A measurement from my anatomy scan showed an increased risk for downs syndrome, though it is still only 1/500. And that is only if the measurement wasn't a fluke. The little man wasn't being super cooperative and so it could just be that he was in a weird position. I have an appointment for early next week for a more detailed scan, so we should find out then if it was just an anomaly.

I'm trying to stay positive. We bought a pool for our daughter and set it up last night, so we're going to go and have some fun outside and enjoy the sunshine.

@sophsmama I'm sorry that you are going through this. I am thinking of you & hope you get that appointment soon to put your mind at ease. Let us know how it goes. Stay strong.

@lolo: thanks lady. I have an appointment next Thursday, and it's supposed to take a few hours. I'm doing a lot better the last couple days, as I've sort of calmed down and realized that though there is a 0.2% chance of something being wrong, that means that there is a 99.8% chance that there is nothing wrong at all.

I felt him really turn over for the first time tonight, and it made me gasp a little. I've felt little movements here and there but the big move tonight was a major deal for me.

Sophsmama: I am all for positive thinking, you will just drive yourself mad otherwise and worrying really does not solve anything - easier said than done I know!

My friend had a similar situation and all turned out fine, she was understandably worried sick so I really do feel for you.
Its lovely that you felt baby turn ove and its good that you are concentrating on the moment. I'll be thinking of you until Thursday, report back.

@Sophs Mama What a stressful thing to have to go through! I hope this week passes quickly for you and you are able to get reassuring answers on Thursday!

Did everyone have a good weekend? We were driving all over the place visiting family, which was really nice, but we stayed up too late generally and as a result, I'm exhausted and not psyched about heading back to work. Mondays after 3-day weekends are rough.

@Sophs Mama: praying for a great appointment Thursday, it sounds like the odds are in your favor! How cool that you felt the baby turn over, I was 21 weeks yesterday and still have not felt anything yet, I feel so out of tune with my body like I should have felt him by now

@Ms.Mermaid: my weekend was a nightmare, worked all weekend and we were slammed, lots of sick people.

  22. Sophs Mama

We've decided that if they do the tests on Thursday and they still aren't sure about his measurements that we will not do the amniocentesis. There is a higher risk of losing him than there actually being anything wrong with him. I'm certain he is perfectly fine, but I'm sick of worrying.

  23. ChiCalGoBee

    nectarine / 2028 posts

@Sophs Mama: It's good that you've made a decision together about this. With the condition I found out I have, it "could" be the result of an abnormality or not, and I told my husband that at 22 weeks it is what it is, and I'm not willing to have an amnio at this point. We're putting our faith in the blood tests we had in the first tri that everything is okay. I'll be thinking of you on Thursday-our ultrasound with the high risk OB isn't until next Weds.

@Sophsmama it’s great that you have a reached a decision togethe regardless of the outcome. It seems that you have a strong gut instinct that everything will be ok, I always listen to my gut. Stay strong mama, lots of love.

    OKAY!

So, we had our appointment this morning, and after an hour long ultrasound it was determined that the only soft marker our baby has for downs syndrome is the slightly thick nuchal fold. Babys nasal bone is pronounced, eyes look perfect, hands look perfect, heart is perfect. Aside from the one little blip, everything is perfect. We opted not to do the amniocentisis. We believe that there is absolutely nothing wrong, and that it's just one little hiccup in an otherwise perfectly healthy pregnancy.

I am dating a week behind, so my adjusted due date is November 27th, making me 20 weeks pregnant as of today.

While we were there she checked babys gender again, and surprise! Our wee babe is a GIRL!

I was upset at first, as I've gotten used to the idea of a boy, but I am thrilled to have another little girl. Meet Nora Christina Beth.

@Sophs Mama: oh my goodness, can you imagine the shock if you didn't find out until she was born!!!! So glad to hear your appointment went well

I am currently wearing a 24 hour holter monitor to monitor my heart rate/rhythm. I got dizzy and passed out last Monday, and I've been having palpitations. When I've monitored or checked my heart rate this past week it's been quite high every time. So they're working me up right now to try to figure out what's going on...

@Sophs Mama: Lol now you have me over here freaking out that our tech was wrong during our scan... She never really got a good shot of his parts because she said the umbilical cord was right between his legs but she said it was definitely a boy....good thing I work in a hospital and know a couple ultrasound techs...I'm gonna be going for another peek for verification next time my friend is there when I am lol.

Has anyone started their nursery what are your colors/themes, share pics if you're willing. I am working on re-doing a light fixture that was already there and was hot pink that's my first project I'll post before and afters once it's done, just waiting on all the parts to come!!

  32. Lolo

    cherry / 128 posts

@sophsmama I am so glad for you, very positive results. This group is girl crazy! I'd much rather find out now than later ps Nora is a lovely name.

@katieleigh_82 lots of love re heart monitoring, I've been through it all before although not while pregnant, it is super scary. They couldn't find anything from my results & even now I have palpitations but the Dr didn't see any cause for concern. I hope everything comes back clear.

I am super jealous of anyone considering nursery options at this stage, we are still in the process of considering a move back to the UK, I'll be lucky to be in a home of our own by my due date so I'm not getting my hopes up about having a nursery ready!

@Sophs Mama: wow, great news on the baby!! What a relief!! Also, what a surprise! If you don't mind me asking, was it the better equipment yesterday that helped distinguish the "boy/girl" parts? I thought you'd had a few ultrasounds that showed you boy, so I'm curious!!

  34. Sophs Mama

    apricot / 429 posts

@chicalgobee: I'm confident that it was our tech, she seemed way more skilled than anyone else we've seen previously. She looked over the scans the tech did last week for our anatomy scan and just shook her head. She said that he got hardly any of the photos they like to see, didn't get a video of the heart and a whole bunch of other things he had missed. His exam was 15 minutes start to finish, and with her yesterday I was lying on the table for almost an hour before she was satisfied. I wish I could request her in the future! She also got mad that we had been told we were having a boy as it was so completely obvious to her that it is a girl.

  35. Sophs Mama

    apricot / 429 posts

@chicalgobee: thanks by the way! I'm feeling my stress level reduce already, even though we went through all 4 bins of our daughters baby clothes last night and finally realised we had gone overboard with it. Seriously, this girl doesn't even need a onesie!

  36. ChiCalGoBee

    nectarine / 2028 posts

@Sophs Mama: She might not NEED a onesie, but I'm guessing Baby Girl 2 will probably get a few things of her own . I have an ultrasound at the hospital next Wednesday, and I'm really hoping for an awesome scan and lots of great info from our doc to get to the bottom of this condition. I actually liked our tech at the anatomy scan, but she gave us such mixed information that I kind of now don't know whether or not to trust the info she gave us . Fingers crossed!

I've been away so long, and you all have so much news that I need to catch up on!

We're having a BOY! We went on vacation right after finding out, so we told our families over skype. I had made chocolate chip cookies with pink and blue cakeballs inside and sent them to our families ahead of time (separated and labeled box 1 and box 2). It was so fun getting to hear everyone's reaction at the same time even though we couldn't do something in person!

I actually go back on Wed. for the THIRD part of our anatomy scan... baby boy is apparently quite shy/stubborn and has not been in the best position for the tech to get all of the pics she wants. I'm pleased that she's being so thorough, and she assures us there's no reason to worry.

I had actual "morning sickness" and puked my guts out twice this week... not sure what that's about!

I hope you fellow teachers are enjoying your summer breaks! I sure am!

@Lolo: @thisisme: So funny you bring this up... While I'm not throwing up, I've become a bit food adverse and feel nausea when I eat, a la early first trimester! Soooo strange! I'm seeing the doc today so I'll ask about it .
