@sandy: so sorry you are still feeling sick and dealing with continued spotting. I'm glad that baby continues to look great! He certainly is giving you a run for your money!

No clothes buying for me! I went a bit overboard with DD so I have tons of girl clothes, some that were never worn. I have lots of nephews and my sister in law is anxious to get rid of her boy stuff so either way I'm set.

@NorCalWayfarer: they haven't changed my date yet either even though I was measuring a week ahead. Oh well. We all know babies will come whenever they want!

I have my anatomy scan tomorrow then meet with my genetic counsellor right after to go over all the results. I'm glad we get all the measurements and everything before we leave the hospital tomorrow. I'm nervous and am so glad my DH managed to get the day off. I'm feeling lots of movements now which is fun. I can't wait until I feel hiccups. That was my favourite thing with my DD.

I had my anatomy scan today...we were told that it's definitely a girl (even I could see it clear as day!). However, while everything looked structurally normal, I'm measuring very small, and smaller on some body parts than others. They're already calling it IUGR and sending me to see a geneticist, and really want me to do amnio, which scares me quite a bit. I've got a call in to my doctor in hopes I can see her or at least talk to her and get her opinion before plunging ahead with the amnio.

Both DD1 & DD2 were tiny (around 5.5 lbs) at birth, and I did temporary bed rest with DD2 around 28 weeks for borderline IUGR. So I'm really not surprised by the small measurements, but have been really shaken by today (and all the quick action they want to take). Ideally I'm hoping to wait until they do another growth scan in 3 weeks to see if I
i've caught up at all before doing an amnio.

Anyone been there before with early IUGR or had an amniocentesis?

@delight: @sandy: I hope this is ok to ask..but if you're comfortable sharing, what typically happens at an appointment with a genetic counselor? I'm seeing one Monday and have no clue what to expect.

@delight: exciting day tomorrow but I completely understand the anxiety you must be feeling. Big hugs! Will be so fun to see baby moving all around! My DD1 had hiccups all the time and even as a baby she would have them a lot. It would totally crack me up to see my belly shake all the time

@PinkElephant: I'm sorry for the worry with the preliminary IUGR diagnosis - hopefully it's just a precaution and you just make petite babies. Honestly, I found the genetic counselor at my MFM office to be pretty much worthless. I was so disappointed in her but it's not her fault that sometimes conditions are completely random and have no genetic component. But her bedside manner was just awful as well so I hated her. She was just totally not helpful. Basically at my appointment she took down all our medical history and all the known medical history known about our extended family and tried to identify where the risks were etc. It was just a lot of questions and her writing things down and explaining where there are risks for inherited conditions. After Ava died we had consults with other specialists so we could try and reduce any risks for future babies and even though I didn't speak with them directly (it was through our IVF office and written communications) they were just so much better at communicating with us.

I hope your genetic counselor is much more helpful and kind. And I really hope your baby is healthy and fine and just petite like your other girls. Keep us posted! I'll be thinking of you!

@PinkElephant: I'm sorry you're going through this. I don't have experience with IUGR but I really hope that baby is fine and that there is nothing to worry about.

I love my genetic counsellor. When I first screened positive from the IPS in my other pregnancy, we were immediately set up with a GC. She helped me pick the best options to move forward, which was NIPT, and then eventually the amnio. She set up all my appointments, met with me immediately after every uktrasound to go over results and actually just was a really knowledgeable and sincere person for us. She helped us through a horrible time in our lives. In our first meeting she did a genetic history with both DH and I and talked a little bit of the syndrome we had screened positive for (T18) but at that point we still thought everything was ok. She has also been very helpful in this pregnancy. I still see her after each ultrasound. I'm sorry @sandy: had a bad experience but mine has been positive.

I did have an amnio with the little girl we lost. At that point I had already screened high risk for T18, then found out on NIPT that Baby was positive for Turners, so we went ahead with the amnio. At that point I was already beside myself in anguish so it was just another shitty thing to get through. The procedure itself was quick and not painful and I just rested for a couple days.

Good luck with everything with you. It sounds like you just have petite little girls and there is nothing wrong with that. In wishing you all good thoughts and good news from Here on our.

@sandy: Thank you. I am sure my scan will be fine tomorrow, but it's impossible to shake the nerves. I am excited to see the baby again though and have some reassurance that all is well.

  8. PinkElephant

    grapefruit / 4584 posts

@sandy: @delight: Thank you both. I'm glad I asked so I can be better prepared with the right info on Monday. DH and I can dig deeper this weekend, but neither of us are aware of the history of, well, anything, other than some high cholesterol and old-age things like diabetes and reproductive organ cancer in adults in our families. I'm not a carrier of any of the major things they check for..so I'm not sure how helpful our info will be! But hopefully the genetic counselor will provide some onsite into just what they are looking for - the only thing mentioned was that with my measurements, the Downs risk goes from 1/690 to 1/276, and they consider it high risk when you hit 1/270. No soft markers noted, and I have no idea if small bones can also point to other specific syndromes (and am banning myself from googling).

Thanks for the positive thoughts. I'll keep you updated. Hope everyone else scans go well this week! 😊💗

@PinkElephant: So sorry to hear about the diagnosis! Hopefully your next appointment they can tell you more and take your history into account.

@delight: Hope you have a great scan today and everything goes smoothly for you!

    @dragonsword: thanks so much!

Anatomy scan went very well. There were no problems or obvious issues at all. They just couldn't get babe to completely cooperate and missed some of the heart shots so I do have to go back. This happened with my daughter too and it was totally fine. Baby is still measuring a bit ahead...end of October... But my EDD is staying at Nov 3. I'm very relieved all looks good!

@PinkElephant: Sorry to hear this, hope your appointment goes well and everything turns out ok (which I'm sure it will!). Keep us posted.

@delight: Yay for your good scan! Such a relief.

I am impatiently waiting for any sign of movement from baby. I read that a lot of people felt some sort of quickening with their first around now (I'm almost 17 weeks) but haven't felt anything yet. I'm just lying here going "HI BABY, PLEASE DO SOMETHING!" Haha. Doesn't seem to want to listen to me yet

How about a fun little update as some of us are approaching the halfway mark!

    how many weeks?
    how are you feeling?
    are you feeling movement yet?
    maternity clothes?
    how's your sleep life?
    food cravings?
    other fun updates?

  16. Mrs. Marshmallow

    blogger / apricot / 389 posts

    I'll go first

how many weeks? 19+5 (my midwife changed my EDD to Nov 2)

how are you feeling? pretty great overall. I had another bleeding scare on Thursday, but it went away right away. A lot at once. Midwife told me to monitor it - but thankfully nothing to monitor!

are you feeling movement yet? FINALLY. I started feeling little twitches last week (anterior placenta here), but I now know what it is. They are few and far between, but I'm loving those little moments.

maternity clothes? I finally got to the city for some jeans. One pair is too big, and I need a belt to keep them up, but the other is awesome. Otherwise I'm living in leggings and dresses (I love working from home during pregnancy!)

how's your sleep life? hit or miss... definitely getting uncomfortable, but I introduced Magnesium into my vitamin routine, and it's been helping a lot with sleep.

food cravings? I think fruit has been my most consistent craving.

other fun updates? My next appointment is Wednesday, and our ultrasound is next Thursday! I'm really excited to see our little babe again (and resist finding out if it's a boy or girl )

how many weeks? 20w+2!! Past the halfway mark

how are you feeling? pretty good, except for that I'm super tired. I guess that is to be expected with a toddler plus being prego though.

are you feeling movement yet? Yes!! This baby is an Olympian in the making- super strong kicks. I can't feel from the outside yet though.

maternity clothes? I have been wearing maternity pants for a while.. I had been supplementing my wardrobe with flowy/ larger regular tops but some of them are starting not to fit.

how's your sleep life? eh.... Not great unfortunately. I get up to turn over or pee just about every hour.

food cravings? anything crunchy and salty (especially really bad for you chips that I normally don't like- Cheetos, Doritos, etc) and fresh fruit

other fun updates? Had a gender scan today! I can't wait for our family gender reveal party on Saturday. DH hid the envelope from me so I wouldn't peek lol.

@delight: yay for a great anatomy scan!!!

    @narwhal: good idea!

how many weeks? 16 weeks. EDD is Nov 28th but RCS will be scheduled at 39 weeks for around Nov 21

how are you feeling? So easily exhausted and out of breath by even the slightest amount of exertion. I can't walk at a normal pace and can't walk very far. Super frustrating but just taking it easy as much as I can. I am still having spotting and occasional bleeding but so far the ultrasounds so baby is doing well.

are you feeling movement yet? I have some twinges here and there but I think that's my uterus stretching. With my first I felt fluttering pretty consistently at 16 weeks so I'm hoping I can feel something soon!

    maternity clothes? Yes!

how's your sleep life? Most nights I'm up several times to use the bathroom but maybe once or twice I week I'll get a really long stretch of sleep which is amazing

food cravings? All food pretty much makes me feel sick afterward. Toast with egg whites work for breakfast. Honeycrisp apples with sharp white cheddar cheese works for a snack. This baby hates sweets which I've never experienced before. After lunch almost everything makes me feel awful still.

other fun updates? Anatomy scan is scheduled for July 5th. In some ways this pregnancy is flying by and I kind of want things to slow down so I have more time to get the house ready. I need to get this baby some clothes too but I'm going to wait until the fall/winter lines come out

how are you feeling? pretty good -- tired, but 'tis the life with a toddler.
are you feeling movement yet? a little bit here and there, although I feel like I felt more movement with baby#1 at this point. Maybe I'm just too tired/not quite as in-tune this time around.
    maternity clothes? heck yeah.
how's your sleep life? Meh. Not as bad as it will be in a few months
food cravings? All the sweets. And I could really go for some poke
other fun updates? planning my son's 2nd birthday party -- equal parts fun and "why am I doing this again?"

  21. LAZB

how many weeks? 18w1d (probably half way for me!)
how are you feeling? Feeling great, tired, but I've been getting a nap most days, so I can't complain
are you feeling movement yet? a little bit here and there, although no big kicks yet. I felt stronger movements with my first two by this point, so I'm a little surprised, but hopefully will feel more soon.
maternity clothes? Yes yes yes, always
how's your sleep life? It's fine, my biggest issue is my huge, old dog that wakes us up several times a night
food cravings? nothing unusual, but I've definitely been indulging my sweet tooth a lot
other fun updates? Not fun, but I start my progesterone injections tomorrow.

@narwhal: i didn't know you had your date changed! I have no idea why mine hasn't got bumped yet but maybe because I haven't seen my OB yet. My baby is consistently measuring into October but oh well. So sorry for the bleeding scare
@caterw: can't wait to hear your gender results! Hope you have a fun reveal!
@sandy: thanks! How are you feeling about your anatomy scan? Are you doing it through MFM? Will DH get to be with you the whole time? I got to do mine through the hospital and meet with genetic counsellor right after but I still wasn't allowed to have DH with me until the end! I hope the next few weeks and your AS fly by for you. I'll be sending you so many positive vibes on July 5th!

How are you feeling? Feeling pretty great lately! I was having some sciatica pain, but yoga and stretching is helping a lot.
Are you feeling movement yet? I am feeling movement daily now, especially when I'm lying down. I was surprised to hear at my anatomy scan that i had an anterior placenta because I have been feeling lots of movement lately.
Maternity clothes? Oh heavens yes. I've been in them for awhile.
How's your sleep life? It is pretty hit and miss. Some nights I'm up 4-5 times and sometimes I am able to sleep through until my alarm. If i go to yoga, I usually have a good night's sleep.
Food cravings? Craving lots of fruit lately!
Other fun updates? I have 12 more days of work left until summer vacation!! I'm seriously counting down the days. I commute 2-3 hours each day, depending what schools I am at. (I'm a Speech-Language Pathologist). I'm looking forward to 8 weeks off in the summer.

@sandy: sounds like we have the same sleep cycle

@NorCalWayfarer: I hope the birthday party goes great! Are you doing a theme of sorts?

@LAZB: oh no! My dog wakes me up between 5-7 every morning to come lay in our room. We have to shut the door because of the cat... but he's so routine I don't even think twice about it anymore!

@narwhal: our dog is so old, our vet has told us he would go any day now for the past three years! Poor guy is just old and uncomfortable, and doesn't have control of his bowels, so he is up constantly. It is stressful, and creates terrible sleep for us, but we really don't want to have to put him down.

Updating with the happy news that we got our first rounds of tests back after my amnio on Monday and things look good! Baby girl is cleared not to have Trisomy 21 (Downs), Trisomy 18, Trisomy 13, or a problem on the sex chromosomes. We still have to wait for final results to be sure everything else is ok, but our doctor is super optimistic and seems to think we will just be monitoring her growth to be sure she doesn't drop below her current curve. I'm so relieved!

I'm excited for my anatomy scan, which isn't until another 3 weeks, but I can't wait to see what the baby looks like since I didn't get to do a 12 week scan. We did a 3D scan with my last LO around 32 weeks for fun, I don't think we'll be doing that this time around..

how are you feeling? Good! All signs of nausea are gone. Some sciatica pain at night, but not often.
are you feeling movement yet? I think so? It's not often, but I can sometimes feel a pushing sensation where baby it. There's also random pokes, but it's hard to tell what it is because it stops after one.
maternity clothes? I still fit into some of my tops and 1 pair of really stretchy jeans. The rest of the time I'm in maternity
how's your sleep life? Pretty good. I wake up once or twice to use the bathroom and can fall right back to sleep.
food cravings? Fruit, popcicles, all things salty
other fun updates? We announced a few weeks ago. Here's the picture we used with the caption, "Emma's looking forward to her new playmate arriving in November!"

how many weeks? 17 weeks today

how are you feeling? A lot better since 12 weeks. Still get some fatigue and most of the nausea is gone. Except for 2x a week I almost throw up (or do) my breakfast. Rest of the day, nothing.

are you feeling movement yet? Yes, started feeling movement around 14-15 weeks! 15 weeks for sure

maternity clothes? some. my work pants are from betabrand and those are like yoga pants and on the weekends I wear the skirts from target that are great for pregnancy. I have some maternity shorts though for around the house or working out. I never quit wearing maternity tanks since I am so tall and long waisted lol.

how's your sleep life? Pretty great, nothing abnormal. I wake up 1-3x a night out of habit and to pee but that is pretty normal for me. I usually fall back asleep easily.

food cravings? Not really. The spicy hot dogs (hot links) lol and wings. Burgers from sonic. Starbucks refresher. No extreme cravings though.

other fun updates? Feeling lots better than the first trimester for sure. Anatomy scan is 7/6 so still 3 whole weeks away!!

@NorCalWayfarer: I went out for my bday on Saturday to get tapas and I totally ordered a raw tuna one. It was small (because tapas) but I ate most of it. No regrets!!

how many weeks? 20 weeks today!

how are you feeling? mostly good, however I have been having miserable headaches for days. I am sure it's just dehydration but oh my.

are you feeling movement yet? I have been feeling movement for weeks. I love it.

maternity clothes? Just maternity pants. I don't have many maternity tops which I don't mind. I love my stretchy tank tops.

how's your sleep life? I am up like 2-3 times between having to pee and weird dreams.

food cravings? Mostly dairy. Which is bad because I don't tolerate dairy well. 😭

other updates: I am switching providers because I don't think my current provider has my best interest at heart. Hoping the next doctor will be more attentive.

How many weeks? 20 on Saturday!

how are you feeling? tired but good!

are you feeling movement yet? so much! lots of kicks/jabs/rolls, and I think she is starting to stretch out because sometimes I'm getting what feels like a tap on the bottom of my ribs. some days I think she's rolled back out to my belly, because I don't feel the jabs, but I do just feel light pushing.

maternity clothes? yup - I had on a pair of regular yoga pants this week and felt like they cut my belly in a weird place. I'm liking maternity jeans/shorts with the little panels of stretch on the sides where the pockets should be. tops I'm doing a mix of regular and maternity

how's your sleep life? great - I'm sleeping through other than when my 2 or 4 year old needs something (last night wasn't pretty), getting up in the early AM to use the bathroom, then crashing again.

food cravings? sour drinks and cheesy salty snacks (I was dying for some Shake Shack cheese fries the other day; something I'm never normally interested in)

other fun updates? My four year old is so sweet to my belly - she's always asking if she can touch it and already wants to know if she gets to come to the hospital when the baby is born

  39. PinkElephant

    grapefruit / 4584 posts

@NorCalWayfarer: yes yes yes! I think that around this gestation (or pretty soon) is when the baby starts uncurling/stretching out a little more. which is why after 14 weeks they measure the legs, too, rather than doing a "crown to rump" measurement. I am definitely getting little nudges on the bottom of my ribcage sometimes - I think it's probably when she's head down and stretching a bit!

  40. kes18

    apricot / 485 posts

@NorCalWayfarer: I've felt some stuff near my ribs but I think it's still gas. At 20 weeks the uterus only goes to the top of the belly button. But I am tall and long waisted so I have a good number of inches between my lowest ribs and my belly button lol. And I'm only 17 weeks. So logically I know it's not the baby for me.
