Pregnant after a loss

    @MaryM: there's lots of things I've been worried about that I know I have plenty of time to take care of! So I understand! Maybe your SIL will be able to find someone else and your mom will be able to stay with you.

    @DesertDreams88: that's great news!

    @lauren0817: Welcome and congratulations! I am so sorry for what you have endured but glad that you have made your way over here. "We" have this saying "today, I am pregnant." I lost both of my pregnancies fairly early on (5 weeks and 11 weeks) and could not imagine that I would ever get over the early pregnancy hump. I am now 34 weeks and am so in love with this guy. It's been 34 weeks of taking it day by day. I still worry every day and want to feel him kick to know he is ok but worrying is just a part of being a momma.

    @simplyfelicity: thank you so much for your kind words and congratulations! It is so true that taking it one day at a time will guide me not just through my fear during early pregnancy, but through the rest of pregnancy and into motherhood - I know there will always be something to be scared about hiding around the corner! It is so wonderful to say "Today I am pregnant" and to feel excited, grateful and overjoyed

    @DesertDreams88: Wahoo!! Congratulations!

    Hanging out at 35.5 weeks here. Feeling some contractions the last week or so (never did with LO1.) Hoping to get another two weeks in, though--too much to do (including, well, getting anything ready for baby)! Starting to freak out about delivering (not the pain/process, just making sure LO is healthy), but it's not any "extra" because of the miscarriage, I don't think. It's similar to last time, I'd say.

    So glad to see this thread so active and so many new people!

    @simplyfelicity: Your poor back! Did you try one of those support belts? If so, do they help? 27+ here and I'm feeling good! My heartburn comes and goes...and I think I felt my first hiccups today!

    @Jess1483: So excited for you!!!

    @DesertDreams88: lurking on this thread and so happy to see your great beta! I have been thinking about you...what a long road you've traveled!

    @Jess1483: I too am getting more anxious now as we are getting closer to the end. I was like that with J as well, but I sort of feel like my hx of loss does contribute... I don't think I've ever gotten completely over my anxiety/feeling that things could go wrong.. Maybe I would still feel nervous even without ever having had a loss, I dk. Fortunately, baby has been very active, which is super reassuring.

    @simplyfelicity: Lol I miss those baby hiccups. DS1 had them ALL the time, and still gets them frequently at 2.5!!!! This babe has YET to get them! I wonder if that means something (why do I worry about the dumbest things?!?)

    @Jess1483: you are so close!!!!

    @FliegepilzHut: I haven't! Might be worth a try. It gets bad around 6/7th period. Fortunately, that class is really well behaved and I can sit down. It just feels so unnatural to sit while teaching.
    This guy has hiccups all the time! He's head down, so I feel them really low...it's kind of weird!
    What are you doing for your nursery? Are you having fun with it? A boy nursery was so much more fun than I thought it would be.

    @simplyfelicity: Do and tell me how you like it! So far, my back feels okay, but I'm pretty sure it will be tough to be on my feet all day around 34-36weeks! Can you feel the hiccups (like a little, rhythmic nudge?) from the outside?
    We had a friend paint a beach-themed mural for the nursery ...other than that, we're a long way from being done. What colors or theme did you do?

    So, I thought we could use a table to keep up with who is due when. I just went back through the pages to put this together, so if I've missed you or have your EDD wrong just let me know!

    Should we add genders? Those were harder to find so I kept it simple for now.

    It's so weird there are no fall (Oct/Nov/Dec) babies!

    @HappyBluebird: Yeah. Things have slowed down significantly for us, and my main boss is out a few days this week so...

    I'm doing what I need to to get by, but am by no means going out of my way to excel this week! I graduated last week and am moving next week, so I have a feeling not many people are really expecting that much productivity out of me for a while

    Alright. I couldn't wait. I had horrible gas last night (I'm guessing, since it went away) and got majorly anxious.

    But this should be a good sign since I previously MCed at 5w, right?

    I'm still pregnant. I'm still pregnant. I'm still pregnant.

    So did you all swear off caffeine for the first trimester bc of your previous loss? I have, but there's a little voice in my head that reminds me that up to 200mg is ok for any healthy pregnancy I used to drink a diet coke daily (no coffee or tea) and I won't go back to that, but we go out to eat about once a week and I'd love to get a diet coke as a treat... but I'm too scared.

  33. Jess1483

    nectarine / 2641 posts

    @DesertDreams88: I did. I started drinking fancy coffee drinks with half a shot (so 40ish mgs) at 13 weeks, and starting in third trimester will do a full shot. I had occasionally had a one-shot drink during first trimester of my loss and, while I'm sure that's not what caused my mc, I didn't want to take the risk. Whatever you choose is fine, and a coke every once in awhile won't hurt the baby, but with all my pregnancy decisions (including when to try again), I asked if I would blame myself for the behavior of something went wrong, and based my choice on that.

  34. HappyBluebird

    clementine / 957 posts

    @DesertDreams88: I think in moderation it's fine, but I tend to be overly cautious after our m/c. I've mostly been avoiding it, though I have had a regular coke when I've had a migraine. It's the only thing that helps in the slightest.

    @travellingbee: Well, I'm past when the miscarriage began, but I'm not yet past when we found out about it. So I'm still nervous. And even after we found out about it my betas kept rising so... I'm not really sure if I'll ever stop being nervous!

    @DesertDreams88: I switched to decaf coffee for my morning coffee (probably half of why I'm so exhausted all the time!) but have had the occasional iced tea or soda. I drink mostly water anyway.

    I was already off caffeine because I get heart palpitations. So I haven't had to make any switches. I feel like my miscarriages were both due to poor egg quality and likely chromosomal issues so I am not too paranoid about anything I am doing causing an issue per se. I'm more worried about what I can't control. FWIW, my RE said to try to do no caffeine in the first trimester and then small amounts in 2nd and 3rd. I still think a small amount would be fine though...

    My morning sickness has gotten soooooo much worse in the past day. I'm so miserable. And I am solo parenting my 2 year old for the last week and working. Ugh. DH better get home fast!

    @MaryM: Yay, congrats!!! Listening to others, you may never stop feeling (at least a little) nervous...but, if that happens to be the case, you 're still in excellent company!

    @DesertDreams88: I pretty much abstained for my first trimester ( had an occasional tea )...even though I'm certain that my m/c's had absolutely nothing to do with caffeine! Whatever you decide will be fine!

    @travellingbee: I'm sorry to hear about the morning sickness-- happy that your pregnancy is progressing well, though !!!

    @HappyBluebird: @FliegepilzHut: Thanks. I was expecting it because I had pretty bad MS with my first one until 20 weeks. But during the worst part of it, I was home over the summer and obviously didn't have a LO.
