Pregnant after a loss

@DesertDreams88: I had food poisoning a few months ago (it was terrible!) and since then I've completely lost my taste for coffee. I am a huge coffee lover, so it has been really weird not having it. I think in moderation it is totally fine, but I just can't stomach it so that takes care of that

So, I have turned into a ball of anxiety today.

I stood up a while ago, and had a sharp shooting pain in the vicinity of my right ovary. It's gone away, but for a moment, it totally stopped me in my tracks.

Can anyone say if this is normal/they've experienced it?

  3. HappyBluebird

    clementine / 957 posts

@MaryM: I've gotten them a few times since about 6 weeks. The worst was when I sneezed laying down. It lasted for 30 seconds maybe then I was fine. That was before my last US where everything looked good so I think its ok/normal.

@HappyBluebird: Thank you for reassuring. With my history of cysts I'm sure I shouldn't be surprised if there's ovarian pain, but I don't normally feel them...so... (and my latest one was on the left, not right)

@MaryM: it was certainly alarming when it happened so I understand!

@MaryM: I completely understand about strange pains being so scary! I have had a few like that as well - I think it is probably something stretching. I have also had some stabbing type vaginal pains - my doctor said that is usually the cervix stretching - it feels so weird!!

@lauren0817: I've had lightening crotch too but it hasn't been as concerning. I think it wasn't as sharp as what I just had.

@MaryM: I'm not sure about exactly what you described, but I've definitely had some strange, unidentified pains, and it always worries me even though I know it's almost certainly nothing. Actually had some pretty severe stomach pain the other night, and I still don't know what it was. It freaked me out a lot, but everything looked great on the ultrasound I had the next day, so...? All is still well! Hope you're able to not worry too much!

So happy to see this board so active! Well, I hate that any of us had losses in the first place, but it's exciting that there are so many rainbow babies on the way!

Good news for us! At my latest ultrasound the SCH I had (which was the only concern for an otherwise perfect pregnancy/baby) is apparently completely gone! Even though the MFM's made it clear that it was nothing to worry about, very minor, it's still a huge relief. I'll continue to get monthly ultrasounds, thankfully, since they help me stay calm, but it looks like we really are FINALLY going to have a healthy baby! Just 12-ish weeks to go! (Which sounds alarmingly soon. 3 months sounds better!)

So, I'm not having any showers, since we got everything just last year and none of it was ever used. But I'm doing my own "baby celebration" party in a month, just to celebrate. The thing is, it's gotten really, really huge. I invited quite a few out of town friends and family members, assuming they wouldn't come (more of a "we'll miss you" invite, ya know?), and a lot of them are. Even one of my college roommates, who I haven't seen in 10 years and am not even sure why I invited, is possibly coming! (Though she actually married one of DH's roommates, so it'd be cool to see them.) I'm guessing it's just that it's been hard on people who care about us seeing us go through so much and not knowing how to help, so they want to be here to show us love/support now, but it's a bit overwhelming! We're looking into renting a space instead of having it at our house (we're okay at our place if weather is good, but if it rains we'll be in big trouble), and we're definitely rethinking the budget a bit. DH is the tightfisted one here, so I'm trying to find ways to spin it so he doesn't stress too much about the cost. If nothing else, I KNOW some people will ignore the "no gifts," so at least that will balance it a little? I'm really grateful for all the love, but I'm going to have to do some work on logistics here!

@MaryM: haha - lightening crotch - I love that! Of course it happened a few minutes ago and I almost jumped out of my chair I hope your pain settles down. Our bodies are going through so many changes right now - I just feel so strange in general.

@Torchwood: such great news! Your party sounds so fun! Lots of people to celebrate with!

@lauren0817: I second the feeling strange in general! Sometimes I feel like my body doesn't belong to me anymore! I have to remind myself often that it will all be worth it in the end

@MaryM: Maybe it's RLP. I've been getting them terribly this pregnancy and they happen when I stand up or turn over suddenly when laying down. Or sneeze. Or cough. At first I was totally freaked out and had a scan done because they were worried it was ectopic. But no. Just ligaments.

  15. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@travellingbee: Could be. I've had it turning over in bed and chalked it up to that, but it doesn't seem as shocking somehow as what just happened.

But the fact that nothing is lingering is helping me worry less.

@MaryM: I've been having dull uterine-style cramps (which I didn't have before) but today I started with the sudden vaginal pains, that I DID have before.... oy vey. Maybe your pain was an ovarian cyst popping?

@torchwood: yayyyy about the SCH disappearing and your party sounds like a wonderful celebration of love and support

  18. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@DesertDreams88: @lauren0817: @HappyBluebird: Thanks! It's definitely a relief. And the party will be fun once I get past the holy crap overwhelmed part!

Annoyed! It actually doesn't matter at all, but insurance is refusing to pay for the genetic screening we had done for this LO. Even though it states clearly in the letter (telling us they aren't paying) that one criteria that would qualify me for it is a history of pregnancy with birth defects. Um, wanna check my record again there folks? That termination you *approved* because of severe birth defects just a year ago? Pretty sure that counts. The lab that did the testing has (well, had at the time) a $25 cap, so like I said, it doesn't matter at all really, but come on. This is dumb.

@HappyBluebird: yes it will definitely be worth it, but it is odd to feel like your body is going nuts Today I went to Michael's crafts and got so tired while I was in the store - I found a folding chair and just sat down for awhile I kept thinking someone who worked there was going to ask why I was just hanging out there, but no one seemed to mind

@MaryM: I love that you added a dd board here for our rainbow babies!! I'm anxiously awaiting our baby girl who should be here in just a matter of days!! Due to my age my Dr doesn't want to let me go past my dd, so I'm starting to try some anecdotal things like red raspberry tea, evening primrose oil & walking lots more. I really don't want to be induced if I can avoid it. Can't wait to show off our sweet little baby here sometime soon!

Glad to read things are going reasonably well for you all!! Congrats on making it further & further along & hang in there... It feels long & stressful when you have a loss (or several ) in your past, but I sure have appreciated every milestone more for having had that experience. My DH & I can't believe how very much we love this baby already & other than u/s, haven't even laid eyes on her yet.

@MaryM: I definitely experienced that and it HURT horribly. That was weeks and weeks ago for me, so try not to worry. I'm sure everything is fine and baby is just growing in there

    @ValentineMommy: Thank you!

I'm trying to stay calm (I swear!)

And as sore as my boobs were this morning, I'm pretty convinced my hormones are still rising.

I started getting nervous yesterday because I was at 5w2d, and that's when the pregnancy stopped growing last time, never growing a yolk sac or fetal pole like it was supposed to. 6 weeks is when the loss started. Even though my betas were doubling great for this one, a little voice started to question "Well what if they level off? What if you start great but then it just gets stuck and becomes another blighted ovum?"

My hcg was 1584 on Monday, so I knew it should be 3000 by Wednesday, so I took this today. Never saw this before, even at 6 weeks / 3063hcg with my last pregnancy!

Now here's to hoping the next week can fly by until my June 3 appt!

@DesertDreams88: I'm right there with you! I keep going over the math in my head.

At our US the sac measured 5 weeks, but I'm pretty sure I was 6 weeks when I had the scan (and spotting started then), but I didn't actually miscarry until 8 or 9.

I'm 6w1d now. And SO READY for the US on June 1!

Sounds like you have a ton of great things to distract you, @MaryM my last day of school is next Thursday, so I have to organize the schoolwide honor roll assembly (certificates, invites, coupons, etc), organize a big Harry Potter themed celebration for Wednesday, pack up my classroom, and celebrate our 5th anniversary!

Can someone help my husband catch up?

He just did the final walk through for our new house. He is moving some stuff into storage today, and asked if I wanted the TV in our basement for my sewing room.

I said I won't have a sewing room now (we'd planned to have two guest rooms and a sewing room). He was so confused as to what on earth I had planned for the last bedroom now. Oy...

    clementine / 957 posts

@MaryM: silly husbands! I don't think my DH has wrapped his mind completely around making space for a baby either. Guess it takes them a little bit longer! We're moving my craft room to the basement so we can make room for the nursery and also still have a guest room.

Best of luck with your move! Hope everything goes smoothly!

    @HappyBluebird: Thanks!

The good news from that conversation is that our realtor is hiring a cleaning company to clean the new house before we get there as a thank you for using him!

I'm so glad I don't have to do it while the movers are bringing stuff in!

36w appointment today--1 cm dilated (which doesn't mean anything, except that with LO1, I didn't get more than a fingertip dilated until I was in active labor, so it may be a sign of a slightly easier labor, I hope.) Baby is head down. I'm not expecting anything any time soon, but it's starting to get really real!

Hi ladies - I had a doctor's appointment this morning and was concerned by our ultrasound measurements. I wanted to see if anyone in this group has had a similar experience We are going for weekly ultrasounds with my reproductive endocrinologist (this is an IVF pregnancy) until we are released to the OB at 9 weeks. I did have some heavy bleeding at 5 weeks (it didn't last very long, but it was a good amount of blood), but haven't had any bleeding since then. I am 7 weeks, 2 days today. Our last ultrasound was 8 days ago and the baby measured 6 weeks, 1 day (which is exactly what I was that day) with a heart rate of 113. Today I should be 7 weeks, 2 days, but only measured 6 weeks, 6 days. The heart rate was great though at 143 bpm. I go back again in 7 days, but now I am a nervous wreck. I can see that the measuring part isn't an exact science, but my doctor did both ultrasounds and he is very experienced. I am terrified of having another miscarriage. After the bleeding a couple of weeks ago, I was convinced I was miscarrying again and we were so happy when we everything looked normal last week. Now I'm not sure what to think.

@lauren0817: oh Lauren, I wish all the hope for you. That's tough. Do you have to wait another full week? Are they also running betas?

  39. lauren0817

    apricot / 369 posts

@MaryM: Thank you for sending positive thoughts my way Yes my next appointment is in a week although I know if I asked to go earlier my doctor would let me. I'm just not sure going earlier will really tells us much... it's a tough decision. No betas at this point - my doctor only did betas initially so I haven't had one in almost 3 weeks. This whole process is so hard - every day feels like a rollercoaster

@lauren0817: I'm so sorry for the worry. Not sure if this helps but my Dr told me that the dates can vary between a 4 day window and that they don't worry if it falls inside that. My first US where they could actually measure baby was off by 2 or 3 days. Next US we were right on for dates. Fingers crossed and lots of good thoughts for your next US.
